AMazing news for the original iPad! Wouldn't have thought they will add this feature after all. WOW!

Not adding, bringing it back. Multitouch gestures worked fine on the iPad 1 since iOS 4.3, you just needed (the free) Xcode to enable it with a simple checkbox. Loosing them with iOS 5 made me for the first time consider jailbreaking my iPad.

For the vast majority of the millions of people using the original iPad, Apple are adding multi-touch gestures. I know 6 people with iPad 1s and none of them enabled gestures.

I'm definitely happy that they're adding multitasking gestures back to the iPad 1. No need for a jailbreak now.

Now, can they PLEASE fix the Safari crashing issue on the iPad 1?! That one's the most infuriating, as I actually added multitasking gestures using a modified version of redsn0w that doesn't apply a jailbreak.

Yes, that issue is really annoying, because it doesn't affect only Safari, but basically any app that is viewing web using Webkit. For me it also regularly occurs in FlipBoard and 1Pasword apps.

So how do I fix the problem with my iPhone 4S not being registered with the developer program when it is...
I get an error on iTunes and my phone then I have to use DFU mode and restore.

If you are not a developer, but have the seed, you need to get the source that gave it to you to add you to the developer portal

There will be no real noticeable battery life improvements with this, or any future release. Trust me.

I have to say you are completely wrong.

Installed and battery life is much much better. Have everything turned on as well.

Whatever they did has worked for me.

If this is an OTA update I wonder how large (or small) the update will be.

(When its released to the public of course)

Can anybody check and see if, out of compassion, Apple has finally activated the use of the USB Camera Connection Kit in the iPhone in 5.0.1?

It doesn't make any sense to release GarageBand for the iPhone/iPod and still block the use of decent USB sound cards and microphones through the Camera Connection Kit as we do in the iPad.

Thanks!

I installed iOS 5.0.1 on my iPhone 4S, it did improve the battery life. Before the update, my phone will lose 5-7% overnight, with wifi on. With the update, it only went down by 1-2%.

I am a developer. And my UDID is registered...
I have my apps that I am working on, on my iPhone. I had all the betas for iOS 5.

It's a known bug. Restore your phone in DFU. Once everything is done, go to your iTunes on your computer, hold the option key and press check for update. It will open up a window for you to browse for the beta on your computer.

If you are on the PC use, Shift+Click.

I had the same issue and this worked for me.

My iPad 1 is still on 4.3.5 since I didn't want to lose gestures. Once I have power back, I'll have to update it to 5.0.1 . :D

Same iOS 5 iPad music app? Not interested.

Whoever downvoted this one either has never used the music app on iPad or is an idiot. BY FAR the worst part of iOS5, many bugs in it and it's very disappointing to see no mention of music issues in the release notes.

Anyone running the beta on iPad, any improvements/fixes to the music app?

Known issues with 5.0 on iPad (note that the app is completely different than the iPhone version):
1) Lyrics completely missing
2) Playback speed for audiobooks and podcasts gone, many users stuck with half speed playback
3) Playlists only displayed as cover art stacks, no option to change back to text lists
4) No 30 second rewind button in audiobooks and podcasts
5) No more graphical display of which podcasts have been listened to
6) No way to get new episodes of podcasts in the music player (have to switch apps to the iTunes app and search for the podcast there)
7) Tiny displays for many of the fields - podcast info in particular barely shows any of it and it doesn't scroll
8) No dates shown for podcasts any more
9) In album view of the list of songs, it switches away from that view to the album cover at the end of every song
10) No sort options in most listings
11) Podcasts and audio books - no longer continues on to the next podcast or section of the book, have to keep manually starting the next one.
12) Chapter support for audiobooks removed
13) Graphics of things like random and repeat are just slight variations on shades of grey, very difficult to tell whether it's active or not
14) Music videos no longer with music, also no way to have them in playlists

I'm sure there are many more, that's just off the top of my head. In general the interface is very poorly laid out with tons of wasted space that could show more text info or have more controls more easily accessible. Honestly they should just scrap the new version and go back to the previous iPad music player and make fixes from there, still needs improvement (my main gripes with the old one were having to dig through multiple windows to rate songs instead of having the feature always available, and cumbersome way of putting songs into playlists) but much less to fix.

Here's one of many threads about the problems.

Multitasking gestures on the iPad 1, yay!!!! Hopefully they'll fix stability issues though, I've found iOS 5 and especially the new safari to be extremely unstable. Not sure if it's just me, but my safari crashes extremely frequently now. Not cool.

The issues of the past 24 hours since the new beta came out seem to be resolved. I just updated both my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 sans problems.

If this is an OTA update I wonder how large (or small) the update will be.

(When its released to the public of course)

I wonder if version updates via OTA will also be available as a full update using iTunes.

Does Safari still chrashes?

Is double tap in Safari now fluent?

Safari was crashing on me continuously last night while trying to watch a YouTube video embedded to a website. I had to reset the iPad (OFF and ON) to solve the problem.

Wow!!! I can't believe that so much has been removed from iTunes!
No lyrics, no audiobook chapters, not showing images embedded in audiobooks, it's horrible. I wonder if this new iTunes is a work in progress, and that Apple will continue to add features to it. Otherwise, the "cut the cord" phrase has no real meaning and I would go back to 4.3 if I could.

For me battery life is now awesome,

3.5 hrs heavy usage (camera, browsing, uploading pics and vids) and 14hrs standby and at 64% battery left!
