Hopefully this will tell us what resolution and PPI is on the Apple Watch.

Now we just need the PPI

This is great!

The funny thing is that I just downloaded and updated to Xcode 6.1.1 yesterday night. Hah.

At least it's not a separate Developer license you have to pay for. I'm planning on bringing Lyrical to the Apple Watch. I'm not sure if an app has to be on the iPhone or not though.

Registered developer (ya I know, so what :) ) , and would really like to check this out but, well, first my iphone 6plus 128GB Gold needs to arrive... 8 weeks and still waiting... at this point apple watch will be out and I'll still be waiting.

Patience is a virtue...

I keep reading stories like yours and am baffled.
I got mine (same configuration as yours) by walking in to an Apple Store one day.
Perhaps I was just ridiculously lucky...but I see a lot of iPhone 6 pluses in the wild nowadays - surely there are better ways of getting it by now? How did you order??

Very interesting...the docs state that all third-party Apple watch apps actually run on the paired iPhone, and only the user interface is displayed on the Apple Watch. All the logic and app behavior actually runs on the iPhone. User interface resources, like graphics or images get loaded on the watch, but no code.

So: third-party Apple Watch apps will not run if your iPhone isn't present, or if the connection to the iPhone is disrupted in some way.

Yeah the watch is pretty much just a second screen of your iPhone. It cannot run any code.

well .... this is gona suck the battery out of the Phone ...
And why would Apple Limit themself of selling Watches only to people with an iPhone .... sounds short sighted

Reminds me of when the iPhone came out and you had to pair it with itunes for all sorts of things ... then they cut the cable a gen or two after and iPhone was much better experience.

Bad move Apple ...

If 8.2 is Feb/coincides with Apple Watch launch, I wonder what 8.3 will be for/coincide with.....iPad Pro?

Hoping for Apple to start including it's acquisitions into iOS with 8.3

Such as public transit into it's maps app, but maybe that'll wait for 9.0

I just confirmed the 38mm watch resolution is 272w x 340h and the 42mm watch resolution is 312w x 390h.

Those are in points by the way, so the native resolution will be 2x most likely:
38mm: 544w x 680h Px
42mm: 624w x 780h Px

Edit: Confirmed 2x will indeed be used: "Create all of your image resources as @2x images. There is no need to include non @2x resources in your Watch app bundle."

You’re a Rock Star. Great post, thanks!

Cut the cable was in 5th generation with the iPhone 4S.

No. Angela Ahrendts has already been quoted stating a "spring" launch. Whether she meant calendar spring or spring selling period; i.e., Easter and graduation, that's def. not Feb. Apple Watch isn't released until late March at the earliest.

Yeah, I'd agree. There was so much left unsaid about the actual hardware when it was announced so we don't know if specs are finalised.

Either way, I am genuinely excited about what smart watches will begin to offer once Apple's is out. Can see it really taking off with some innovative apps coming in.

It's such a convenient place to have a screen.

Yeah I wonder about that. They did say the Apple Watch works with the iPhone 5 and 5S. Really interested to get battery life stats on iPhone with the Apple Watch.

Then again, there's a reason Apple wants the developers to minimize the amount of information, and limit the interaction with the Watch. They could be thinking about the battery life aspect

Good, I imagine that the with would last around 45 seconds between recharging if it was processing too.

Glad i got the 6 Plus.

Who? Why does anyone care about exploits? They'll get patched anyway.

So that you can upgrade to the latest OS version, get all of the new features/fixes, and still be able to jailbreak it & customize the phone the way you want.

Yes, they'll get patched, but it's far better for an insignificant update like iOS 8.1.1 to get the patch than 8.1, which introduced Apple Pay and a host of other Yosemite-related features.

Huh? Like the hundreds of millions of Apple users out there aren't a large enough audience?

And it only adds to the draw/allure of an iPhone.

It's an ecosystem thing - and pairing the two offers a better overall user experience IMO.

If you know one, you know the other.

The lights thing looks intriguing, though who knows what system you'd have to have at home to use it. I feel like it might be more useful for when you're on vacation so you can turn lights ON periodically to pretend you're home.

I highly doubt that the Watch is going to be what brings people to buy an iPhone.
Yes millions of people have iPhones, but much more people have Androids devices ... If the iPhone alone did not make people switch ... why would a watch be able to do that ?

People are becoming more and more closed to the phones eco systeme ... wich is why limiting to selling the watch to iPhone only people is stupid.
Microsoft may not have a winner with the band (god it looks painfull to wear) but they do have a better way to reach far more people by letting people from Android, iOS, and Windows use it ...

What are you talking about? Do you have any idea how the thing works?

The iPhone is a huge part of it. Not only is it how it LOADS content onto the device in the first place, 90% of the tasks are interacting with your iPhone, using your iPhone to communicate, or using one of the iPhone's sensors.

Without the iPhone portion, the device is nothing. Your post is what I would call shortsighted.

The idea is to allow Apple Watch apps to have a wide range of features without killing battery life. With his arrangement, the watch can do pretty much anything an iPhone can do. There are hundreds of millions compatible iPhones so it's not a huge restriction.

And, of course, pretty much anyone buying this would be carrying around a phone in any case.

Of course, a standalone watch would be better.
