Apple Seeds Mac OS X 10.5.3 9D23

Just 3 days since the last seed, Apple has released the next build of Mac OS X to developers. Again, no "known issues" are listed in the latest developer build (9D23). Only 8 fixes are listed in the notes provided by Apple.

Typically, Apple has waited several builds before re-seeding new versions to developers. In the past, rapid-fire seeding has meant that they were prepping for the final release. It's unclear if Apple has simply changed its policy and seeding more frequently.

I'm ready, the last few tuesdays have been real boring, and we need something new.
 
Four of my must fix bugs:

1. Graphics scramble in cover flow view of finder. Has only happened once but it was pretty wild. It was like the finder was eating itself.

2. Waking from sleep mouse stuck. Can't click on anything...or is stuck in the down position dragging a random item that can't be dropped.

3. Waking from sleep password screen won't appear. Sometimes closing the lid putting it back into sleep and reopening fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. Then I lose my work and get ticked off. Now I just try to not close my lid when on AC power so that it doesn't sleep...I keep it cracked just enough. Saving my files before leaving the computer also isn't a bad idea!

4. Programs like Photoshop that only have a title bar and child windows sometimes don't work right in spaces. I have it setup so they stay in a certain space, but sometimes they wander. They also like having everything but the photo window grayed out sometimes, causing me to switch spaces and then switch back to fix. I used to think this was a problem with Adobe software, but recently I used another program with a similar layout--Photomatix or something--and it did the same thing. Annoying!

My only other bug is tapping the caps lock key sometimes doesn't activate it properly, but that's probably not able to be fixed. I have a bad habit of tapping the caps key instead of using shift to capitalize letters, but I never had this problem on my old Inspiron that I ditched a few months ago. Other than that I absolutely love my mac and it would be nearly perfect with those fixes.

I would also like a scheduler to put the mac to sleep and wake it up at certain times on certain days. Right now there are only "weekday / weekend" options. Is there a hidden system setting for that or a third party program available?
 
Caps lock unactivation by quick-tap is a feature of the latest computers... this way you won't unwillingly activate it, but you have to press it longer to be sure you WANT to activate it.. ;)

- Issue with mounted Boot Camp volumes fixed
- Fixed problem with Mobile Account login pane and MCX Client
- Fix to mDNSResponder
- Fix to AFP Server
- Fix to VoiceOver and static text

Where are you finding this information? I'm curious to see the original 10.5.3 seed change list along with the second seed.

From what I understand, there a few fixes that Digidesign and Apple collaborated on to bring ProTools compatibility with this release. So, obviously I'm anxious to for all to come.

Without candy coating it, I'm breaking Apple's rules and posting it directly from the release documentation from the Apple Seeds on the ADC Site. This information is normally only available to developers, however, I feel enthusiasts can get a better feel for what is coming their way by seeing this. Just for the record I will NOT help anyone find access to these seeds, I may bend the rules to give you guys a look at the change log but I'm not going to jeopardize myself by pirating Apple's code. :)

Additionally, if it helps me not have to see "Safari feels snappier." one more time then I feel it's worth it. ;)

If you check the previous Seed Build you will find where I posted the complete change log for 10.5.3 which should contain the data you're looking for.

I ask for only two thing:
1- The devil first key stroke on my Apple wire keyboard doesn't show up after I leave the keyboard for a few minutes on my iMac white core2Duo
2- The wireless dropping with belkin router (doesn't happen on other network as often, other computer on the network are ok, was ok in Tiger too)

Improvement
- Spaces need more work with some applications (Office 2008 anyone?)
- Finder drag-n-drop file sometime didn't work if spring-loaded into the same window, have to open two of them (lost source?!)
- Microsoft mouse 5 button, have a button that stop working from time to time, it's link to activated Exposé

But overall, getting stable, normal for X.X.2 release. Those finding the OS unstable should always wait the X.X.3 at least, and never make the upgrade to the 2 last version (only make it worst for compatibility with the next OS).

Hope Apple will pass some time to solidify the OS even more, the Tiger and Leopard release were lowering this aspect a bit.

  1. Spaces is a primary focus of the 10.5.3 testing process so hopefully most users will see an improved experience.
  2. Haven't experienced that issue directly, might submit it to bugreport.apple.com.
  3. Sounds like an issue with the Microsoft Software for 10.5, might check with Microsoft for an updated version.

This bugs me too, a lot. Now, I only wonder... Is it something Apple has to fix, or something Adobe should look into? Any way, I hope they get it sorted out.
 
Dock Dock Dock!...

I hate to beat a dead horse, but there is still one simple functionality in TIGER that is NOT available in Leopard.

Why can't I just click on a folder in the dock and have the folder open? DUH!

I have every other option, hierarchical, grid, etc, but NO FOLDER under View Content!
Kind of unbelievable when you think about it.

This is a no-brainer for a quick fix yet I don't see this in the changelog. :(

Just FYI, CMD+Click opens the folder.

I wish I could say, if previous indicators are any sign I would think we're getting very close given the rapid fire seeds coming from Cupertino.

Either that or Apple is going to bust every programmer's hump until they can't find anything left to improve in 10.5.


killmoms, I did manage to score a development picture of the fabled G5 Powerbook, only a few heat issues to work out before release! ;)
