NOPE, nice try but no cigar!

All that does is LOCATE WHERE the folder is!

Not a bad feature mind you, but not the same thing as a single click that opens a folder from the dock.

BAD APPLE!

Anybody else?

The only way I know of is to create a shortcut to the folder and drag that shortcut to the dock. Click shortcut and folder opens :)

Any folder dragged to the dock in Leopard will become a Stack. I think that's what his complaint is.

Yeah, before Leopard came out there was an Apple video that showed exactly this, yet it was never implimented, or it was removed before Leopard's release. Who knows why

You're talking about on the right hand side of the divider, right?

This discussion is about dropping a folder on the left hand side. That's the issue.

hmm I do this all the time...I always have been able to drag and drop a folder onto the dock and it wold turn into this nifty little stack...so not sure whats the issue is.

I believe the issue is that he wants it to act like a shortcut to a normal folder, rather than a stack.

Anyone see this in the changelog?

TM backups to any AFP share perhaps?

I truly hope so. I have a 2tb nas just begging to be used as my TM backup destination. There is a way to hack it into working (creating a sparseimage etc) but I want official support as I may have to actually restore from a TM backup someday!

My crystal ball says v soon

Well where's 10.5.3? Looks like your crystal ball needs shining.:D

This time I think it's safe to say it's going to burst out of Apple's birth canal any minute now.

The release of a full install DL-DVD image of Server 10.5.3 hints that it's gone GM internally. It's unlikely Apple would want customers pulling down a 6.8GB image and then another very soon after it does go GM. BUT stranger things have happened.

Because that is an extremely tedious procedure.

A fairly quick way (if one has an extended keyboard) is:

1. Have folder set to show its contents as list in the Dock.
2. Left-click the folder
3. Press "end" key on keyboard
4. Press "return"

Tada! :)

Can also be done on a small (laptop) keyboard by holding down the "fn" key and pressing the "right arrow" key (for "end").

Haven't heard anything about a new seed lately? What's going on? Have I missed something, or is everyone in Cupertino playing around with the new iPhone? ;) The last seed I heard of was around a month ago..

I think we're all feeling like it's going to be a WWDC 10.5.3 .. :)

I would be thrilled if tomorrow proved me wrong though. I'd be even more thrilled if WWDC rolled out iTunes 8 alongside iPhone 2.0 and 10.5.3. Wishful thinking?

I hope so too, and its looking likelier by the day, iTunes is a slug with larger libraries, and doesn't conform to a lot of OSX's unified features (background resizing isn't live, I made my scrollbars iTunes-y and graphite, but the iTunes ones stay blue-ish, the buttons are old Aqua and not metal in the info panes, and much more). The launch time is dreadful, Apple need to do something about that.

There has been plenty of news, but MacRumors has opted not to cover it because the seeds have been pretty frequent and seeing new 10.5.3 coverage(which is mostly bug fixes) every few days probably wouldn't be that exciting :p

a pretty good writeup if you are interested.

Leopard cannot connect properly to our tiger Open Directory server, so I am really hoping that 10.5.3 fixes it because our customer is forcing us to roll out new Mac Pros pretty soon....

it obviously is not up to me when to have released Leopard, but it was released and so many bought it...and now many have problems some minor some very major, and yes there are many who have a computer skill level that they can cope with whatever was thrown at them.....but I am not too bright about computers and it just seems that Jobs pooped on a lot of people releasing a half assed product that had so much missing or messed up about it and he correctly guessed that on the basis of Apples past that the devout Apple robed disciples would line the streets to purchase it and of course mucho FRN's came raining down upon his throne. Leopard has gone up to 10.5.3 and it STILL HAS NOT DEALT WITH MANY OF THE MAJOR PROBLEMS MANY HAVE SAID IT HAS. That's why I have not bought it.

I think that exaggerates the situation a bit. Many of the "problems" that are discussed most in the discussion forums concern usability changes, such as stacks and transparent toolbar, and problems from third-parties, such as the spaces problem with MS office. There definitely are also other problems, some of which are very annoying, such as the airport problems etc. But I personally have been thoroughly happy with OS X from the start, and it is leaps and bounds ahead of the first issues of Vista or XP for that matter (XP was as big a mess as Vista when it was released). I don't have a reference to Tiger though.

I don't think there's anything "half assed" about Leopard. Sure, it's not perfect, but it works very, very well. I've only encountered one "major" flaw, and it only comes into play when trying to print to a Windows-based network printer.

Leopard has a lot of added functionality over Tiger (and other previous versions of OS X) and is infinitely better than Windows. If you don't want to buy it, good for you, but to say it has major problems and isn't worth using is way over the top.

peterdevries & ignatiustheking

what i didnt explain in a right enough manner is that for you two gentlemen and so many others who are from computer able to super bright with computers and use Apple products to make a living all of you can cope with all of whats gone on about Leopard and i respect that....but for the computer dummy such as me so much of what i read here is totally over my head....but i keep reading all if this trying to learn what your talking about...and for someone like me in this position the smallest stumbling block that i have heard about Leopard is for me an immediate stop---because i simply dont have the skill level you all have to cope with issues, most of them....i then have also disliked what jobs and his group offer the buyer with a take it or leave it attitude and i am stumped that in all these years both gates and jobs continue to do this to the consumer---what i am saying is why haven't these two big shots offered a lego type computer where there is a basic construction for the consumer to buy and then "addons" that are seperate purchases-right now i can't think of examples, well no lets say that i have read many who dont like this stacks, there should simply be a choice to override or delete that, or the dock arrangement-the same thing-the choice should also have been included to have it or not,the same with the menu etc. all this are appearances that are take it or dont buy it and frankly you'd think by now jobs would have matured to where he gave the consumer that freedom, another thing that gets me has been where the remote and cords were once included but now you have to buy them---that all adds up to me to a half-assed product....the consumer IS getting less and less at a greater overall cost, another example has been where Apple then divided the store card into the One on One and then the other subject matter choice....this is also reflections of a half assed company i think.....and then i wont even begin to relate to you guys so many of you are professionals with the great cars and cloths etc and then the computer wizz's and then the kids of parents with mucho dollares'....i am in neither of those classes....i am disabled, i hobble into a Apple store using 2 canes and wear a brace as well and i live on social security and you simply cannot comprehend the "oh look what kind of dirtbag just came in attitude and lets watch every move because this bum looks like he'll steal something and when i've brought my MBP15 in they everyttime act like i have stolen it attitude---when you guys had a thread about showing your cars mine at the time was a totally rusted out 91 Blazer...which you asll in your mercedes and the rest of these top cars have i'm a bum to all of you thats how i get treated in the Apple store- the couresty is phony designed to get me out of the store as fast as possible so the well to do can present their plastic as opposed to my FRN's used to pay for my MBP15 and it was so helpful to my self esteem when I paid in cash for my MBP15 2.0 and they used their counterfeit pen on each and every FRN I gave them.....really makes your day......
