The train of Mac OS X 10.6.3 developer seeds continues today, with Apple pushing out Build 10D571 to developers for testing. iPhone in Canada offers the details, which include a request that developers focus their testing on Graphics Drivers, iChat, QuickTime, and Fonts. Additional changes in the latest update include:
- Issues addressed that caused background message colors to display incorrectly in Mail when scrolling
- Issue resolved that caused machines using BTMM and the Bonjour Sleep Proxy to wake unexpectedly
The seed notes also apparently document one known issue involving Software Update reoffering last week's Safari 4.0.5 update after upgrading to the new build.

The last developer build of Mac OS X 10.6.3 was seeded 11 days ago, and we continue to expect Apple to release a final version to the public in the relatively near future. Apple's release schedule is difficult to predict, however, as it seeks to polish each release to address both documented and publicly undocumented issues in its builds.

Mac OS X 10.6.2 was released in early November, and Apple began seeding versions of 10.6.3 to developers in early January.

The final 10.6.3 will come out before any new hardware I'm sure.
It would make sense to me. Or has apple released a x.x.1 build release with new hardware same-day in the past?

I was hoping for some Firewall fixes as I'm having issues with that with regards to CD/DVD Sharing and apps not recognizing that an application is put in the "safe" zone.

The maintenance release might coincide with some sort of software release (maybe one of the pro applications, like Final Cut) or prior to hardware, but a same-day release with hardware shouldn't have any interdependencies due to the length of the manufacturing ramp.

count me as someone waiting for MacBook Pro updates. Either a significant bump and I'll buy a spankin' new one or if nothing major then I'll snag a refurb and save some $$. Can't wait to upgrade from my 12" 1.33 GHz Powerbook. Yes, i still use it daily.

i would speculate that 10.6.3 includes some hooks for the next h/w revision.

Is it not crap yet? I don't have any issues with 10.5.8 so I'm having a hard time seeing why I should upgrade with my UTD disc.

Jesus....this release is way, WAY overdue. I'm working on a new iMac Core i5 with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and its easily the worst release of any OS X I've worked with;

-photoshop crashes frequently
-finder freezes up
-external usb drives unmount after a short while giving me THIS message:

The usb drive issue is REALLY pissing me off. Theres no problem with the drive, it works on every computer EXCEPT the one at work.

An issue I sometimes encounter is where Finder will crash somehow - things like CMD+TAB won't work and the keyboard won't work, but I can still access Spotlight via CMD+Spacebar. I can't load anything (Terminal etc) and when I bring up the Force Quit window (that key combo works) it lists no running applications.

Pretty annoying - usually happens under load. Happened last night when I was playing a game and had my virtual machine booted.

There may be an issue with the computer hardware, not software that's causing the issues you've been having.

Exaggerate much? I haven't crashed once under Snow Leopard.
C'mon, those crashes could be related to something other than the applications in question (e.g., video device driver).

Safari and Finder are quite stable on Snow Leopard on my system, but not everyone runs a 3.5 year old MacBook.

Aside from the iPad- there really hasn't been any new hardware releases this year, has there? Or Software updates?

By my figuring its been a really weird market strategy for apple. Focus all your resources on a product that hasn't proven itself yet to be a huge success and put your other updates on the back burner?

I know that there is probably a lot more than that at stake. But I, for one, am starting to feel like an ignored apple customer...

Well, this year *so far.* We're only three months into it. And there have been software updates.
