Jesus....this release is way, WAY overdue. I'm working on a new iMac Core i5 with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and its easily the worst release of any OS X I've worked with;
-photoshop crashes frequently
-finder freezes up
-external usb drives unmount after a short while giving me THIS message:
The usb drive issue is REALLY pissing me off. Theres no problem with the drive, it works on every computer EXCEPT the one at work.
The issue sounds like you need to do a clean install then do a combo update (not delta) to 10.6.2. If that fails then it sounds like an issue with the hardware - possibly run memtest86 and see if that brings up an issue although I have noticed some weirdness when it comes to storage device detection - such as when I put in a CD it doesn't appear on my desktop but if I load up 'disk utility' it forces Mac OS X to redetect and mount it on the desktop.
I was gonna post the same comment. Do a clean install of Snow Leopard, and upgrade to 10.6.2. Run a few system tests. It may be a faulty install of Snow Leopard (more often it's PEBKAC, Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair) as clean installs usually rectify the issue(s) (maybe from another third party software application, which happens A LOT, or a corrupted kernel or .plist, who knows).
True, but then again, the i5 is a pretty new processor that has hyper threading and multiple cores which might cause some issues that have only just been exposed; a later post on this thread lists all the updates which include some kernel panic fixes and so forth.
I'm pretty tired of hearing about this update myself. 6.2.2 has been working just fine for me.
There is no 6.2.2 there is 10.6.2.
Intel GMA X3100 and Mobility Radeon X1600 owners are probably waiting for improved drivers to resolve the graphical corruption issues.
I doubt it; from what I understand in the case of X3100 they're at the mercy of Intel right now - the last improvement was to bring out a 64bit version of X3100, it will be interesting to see whether there are improvements beyond that mark or whether it is too old to make it word Apple's or Intel's worth to update. Then again, one also has to ask how much of these bugs are due to bugs in the API and subsystems that are only exposed through the way in which Intel makes use of them - so something that doesn't fix the X3100 directly might show improvements because of a bug fix in some other area relating to the graphics layer.
