Jesus....this release is way, WAY overdue. I'm working on a new iMac Core i5 with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and its easily the worst release of any OS X I've worked with;

-photoshop crashes frequently
-finder freezes up
-external usb drives unmount after a short while giving me THIS message:

The usb drive issue is REALLY pissing me off. Theres no problem with the drive, it works on every computer EXCEPT the one at work.

The issue sounds like you need to do a clean install then do a combo update (not delta) to 10.6.2. If that fails then it sounds like an issue with the hardware - possibly run memtest86 and see if that brings up an issue although I have noticed some weirdness when it comes to storage device detection - such as when I put in a CD it doesn't appear on my desktop but if I load up 'disk utility' it forces Mac OS X to redetect and mount it on the desktop.

I was gonna post the same comment. Do a clean install of Snow Leopard, and upgrade to 10.6.2. Run a few system tests. It may be a faulty install of Snow Leopard (more often it's PEBKAC, Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair) as clean installs usually rectify the issue(s) (maybe from another third party software application, which happens A LOT, or a corrupted kernel or .plist, who knows).

True, but then again, the i5 is a pretty new processor that has hyper threading and multiple cores which might cause some issues that have only just been exposed; a later post on this thread lists all the updates which include some kernel panic fixes and so forth.

I'm pretty tired of hearing about this update myself. 6.2.2 has been working just fine for me.

There is no 6.2.2 there is 10.6.2.

Intel GMA X3100 and Mobility Radeon X1600 owners are probably waiting for improved drivers to resolve the graphical corruption issues.

I doubt it; from what I understand in the case of X3100 they're at the mercy of Intel right now - the last improvement was to bring out a 64bit version of X3100, it will be interesting to see whether there are improvements beyond that mark or whether it is too old to make it word Apple's or Intel's worth to update. Then again, one also has to ask how much of these bugs are due to bugs in the API and subsystems that are only exposed through the way in which Intel makes use of them - so something that doesn't fix the X3100 directly might show improvements because of a bug fix in some other area relating to the graphics layer.

Good one...

more often it's PEBKAC, Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair.

In our department most of the issues can be attributed to problems on the interface between the chair and the keyboard, and now I have the acronym that I can write when closing the tickets. LOL

Apple sold GMA 950 and GMA X3100 hardware well into 2009. This just adds another reason for me not a buy another Mac.

Hope this resolves a few issues with finder that cause it to crash the system sometimes. The folks at the genius bar cannot resolve it either, so hopefully this fixes it for me. I rarely use it, but if i accidently hit the shortcut keys, the system goes nuts.

What's the iChat fix?

Anyone know what the iChat fix(es) might be? My iChat no longer connects to AIM since this past weekend, curiously coinciding with my install of Safari 4.0.5. Has anyone else seen this?

LOL!
PEBKAC, PICNIC :D:);)

More candidates for the list of Emergency Room Acronyms like:

GIBGIA (Got It Before, Got It Again)

YCCS (You Can't Cure Stupid)

Spending too much time in "Customer Service"
Keri

10.6-10.62 have been pretty good over here...

IANAL needs to be changed, though. ;)

Mail
- Resolves some crashes in Mail.
- Improvements to Exchange Web Services.
- Performance improvements to Mail, when deleting and adding To Dos.
- Resolves junk folder filtering issues.
- Resolves an issue when renaming a mailbox resorts it alphabetically.
- Improvements to Mail Notes.

Please let this also fix the annoying exchange mail.app issue where part of a message (anywhere after an attachment or an embedded image) shows up as an attached .txt or .htm file. It's getting REALLY old, and may even drive me back to entourage.

When SL was fresh, those errors were IMPOSSIBLE to live with.

Right now, it's annoying, but I can deal with it.

Hopefully this next release of SL coming in September 2011 or around there will be ok.

10.6.3

It's taking a very long time - I wonder whether they are also making fixes in 10.6.3 that will render hackintoshes useless, hence the seeming endless development builds?

Purely out of curiosity what has been the longest time between point releases since Tiger? Has 10.6.2 been the longest lasting point release in some time? Sure feels that way. Not that it's been a problem. 10.6.2 has been very stable for me.

It does seem to be taking Apple an exceedingly long time to push this release out.

Purely out of curiosity what has been the longest time between point releases since Tiger?

Since Tiger? If you want to include Tiger, there was about five and a half months between 10.4.8 and 10.4.9 (29 September 2006 to 13 March 2007).

Since then it was almost five months between 10.4.10 and 10.4.11 (20 June to 14 November 2007), and again between 10.5.6 and 10.5.7 (15 December 2008 to 12 May 2009), which we have not yet reached for 10.6.3.

God, release it already.. I too have noticed finder crashes when using stacks, and safari crashing when uploading stuff

The one thing I noticed when it comes to the GMA X3100 was with my white MacBook I found the issues distortions on the screen being linked with my laptop being very hot - the plastic MacBook I found would get extraordinarily hot and thus the issues would come. So I have a feeling that the issue may more have to do with the design of the Mac than with the drivers itself. I remember my wifi getting over 70 degree's Celsius, the CPU getting to 50-60 degree's Celsius and barely come down - and the bottom would be very hot too. All of it linked up I don't think would have been helpful to the reliability.

I know Apple doesn't care about Mac users anymore but they could at least make an effort.

For what was supposed to be a stability and performance upgrade from Leopard they have managed to really **** it up.

I've played games under Windows without a single issue. Under Snow Leopard graphical issues to show up that don't appear under Leopard. They can be captured using Grab or the screen capturing shortcuts.

Massive long list of changes, no sign of fixing nested sorting in dock stacks. No fix for iTunes dashboard widget. Okay I'll wait for 10.6.4 for those, the second has only been around since 10.4.1, no biggie :).

I've had a pretty good amount of trouble with 10.6.2 on my i7 iMac. If they fix the bug where finder crashes and can't be restarted I'd be ecstatic. It's a pretty frustrating bug.

Apple actually contacted me yesterday requesting more information about a bug I reported back in December relating to a secondary display producing only digital noise instead of the desktop every tenth or so time I wake it up.

I wonder if they may be investigating and trying to fix it, especially if they're concentrating on graphics drivers as the intro here states.

I'm running the current seed of 10.6.3. I know of the Finder bug you're talking about. It is really frustrating! Since Apple is usually extremely vague on what is actually FIXED, I have been attempting to crash the Finder and see if I can restart it without getting that stupid error. I have been unsuccessful which I suppose is a good thing. lol

The one thing that really irritates me about Snow Leopard is the exclusion of the Adobe PDF Printer. This isn't Apple's fault. It's stupid Adobe making ridiculous excuses on why it won't work in Snow Leopard. Yes, you can use the PDF button in the print dialog to make a PDF, but you can't do that in some cases. I am a designer and that printer saved me the time from making a postscript file and then converting that to a PDF. Time is money, Adobe. Put the ***** printer back and make it work.

Kind of off-topic but I wanted to rant.

Ah, dammit. And there is an "issue" listed, meaning that there is at least another round of builds to come. At this rate, this one will never be released--it's getting to be the Xeno's paradox of updates: every two weeks, it is 50% closer to being released. At some point, Apple is going to have to just give up and release the bloody thing.
