Yeah yeah and this is the same drivel we here every single time a major update is close. "Yeah its so much faster", And SOO amazing" until we actually get it an its like a major disappointment because ppl like you greatly exaggerate EVERYTHING about the OS. Im sick of listening to ppl like you misinformants. When i eventually get the OS im always disappointed as it is NEVER a massive speed increase like everyone talks about, usually sure a very minor improvement in speed in some cases but never as significant you promoted.

Besides a stupid looking oversized bulging Dock, which one still cant permanently hide an reactivate it only when needed (and to think Apple actually listened to those d!Kh3aD$ spoofing over that crap Solaris Glass interface) and whoopy do dar Spaces and coverflow view, there is nothing of particular interest in Leopard as far as im concerned. There is no Resolution Independence and no Quartz 2D Extreme and basically no GPU acceleration of any other kind including MPEG (variants) of video. No ability to save and reload a session on login from a last logged session like Linux. No ZFS, no ability to change system font types an sizes, absolutely no significant improvement to the Dumb POS Finder which everyone HATES, no change to Open/Save Dialogs which most ppl HATE and find completely useless.

What an overhyped overdue copy of Vista. Yeah the power of Unix so dumbed down a retard can use it great!!

It's their opinion. You're smart enough to understand that, right? Do you always get this upset when you disagree with people? And do you really put this much weight on random strangers' opinions from the internet.

General Observation:

Why is it always newbies who registered the same day with opinions like this?

Apple news always brings out the haters...

Actually, that guy wasnt even exaggerating. I used the WWDC version and it was already miles ahead of Tiger, speed-wise.

However, I am not a big fan of the less transparent menu bar/space background.

The new intro video and the semi-new System Preferences icon are hot though.

have the close, minimize, maximize buttons always looked that weird? (take a look at the new pics)

They have looked very close to that in early demos for resolution independence, safe the saturation. The edges are sharper than in Tiger, I suppose that's because those new ones are vector based and it's rather hard to have smooth transitions on vector stuff witout anti aliasing.

Maybe you can make it look smoother by changing the font smoothing style in the appearence pref pane? I don't have the new seed yet so I can't try it out.

Trust me, resolution independence is a killer feature, even if ahead of its time sine there are no affordable high definition displays out there. But this will seriously shine in the future. I can imagine new cinema displays with 200ppi. It would just look sharper, not smaller.

I think those visual refinements are awesome, less transparent menu bar, more colorful window buttons (I assume you can switch to graphite or similar if it's too flashy?), etc. We're getting there, people.

I'm guessing these are the new vector versions.

They had the old versions vectorized. I saw them in a very large size myself.

Personally, I hate the new ones and hope they don't use them.

Edit: Found a pic.

is there a way to download this movie?

If it's up on YouTube, just go to YouTube, play it, then in Safari go to Window-->activity. Find the Youtube section. Now look through the list of files until you find the biggest one. this is 99 times out of 100 the movie. Double click and it will download. Now find the file, and rename it to whatever you want with an *.flv extension. Now it will play in VLC (and maybe Quicktime, not sure).

Its amazing what a fresh lick of paint can do for the general consensus on Leopard on these boards.

All of the features are 100% the same as the last build, which appeared to be a bitch fest. They throw on a new wallpaper and reduce the opacity of the menubar and people are gushing over it!

Leopard will be great, regardless of the wallpaper.

Apple Logo in the Backround

Im sure people have noticed but if not, There is a Apple logo in the backround of the new startup vid.

Looking really, really good. Can't wait. The new menu bar definitely seals the deal in terms of UI enhancements for me, Leopard looks stunningly modern compared to Tiger. It's all good now that the functionality has been returned to the menu bar's appearance, in my opinion.

temper temper

whoa nelly, :eek::eek:

You have quite a temper don't ya. If you don't like Leopard at all, then I dare you to create a better OS. I use UbuntuStudio and still can't figure it out, so linux is no good for your average Joe. Windoze, well...it sucks. Now Leopard... that's a different story. Sometimes it's not about specs my friend, its about the user experience. ;)

What I think speaks more for the opening video is the inclusion of new language's words/phrases for Welcome. I don't think that here has been previously an Apple-sponsored translation of Portuguese or Russian, both of which represent sizeable language populations (Brasilian, parts of Africa, and Portugal for Portuguese, and of course all of Russia and parts of former soviet territories for Russian). Apple has a site for Brasilians but I've not been aware of their programs being released yet in Portuguese. And they have no market presence or web presence for that matter in Russia as far as I know.

Hmm. On my version of Tiger, the International pane has a Russian option. The menus and stuff then all go to Russian. Seems to work for me.

Of course, it's written in Russian in the list on the International pane. Maybe that's why you didn't notice it.

I am so loving the transparent bar and new dock. Most beautiful looking desktop ever.

Hmmm, I know I don't hold the most popular opinion, but I rather liked the more transparent menu bar. As someone who uses Photoshop, etc. a great deal, the transparency of the menu bar was less distracting and gave the appearance of more screen real estate, without taking away the functionality of the menu bar itself.

Apple and Jobs need to get over the OCD with the OS and open up some of the configuration options to the individual user, such as menu bar transparency/opacity, color schemes, etc. It's be nice to have a third party program such as Windows Shade or such be integrated into Leopard...

I really can't wait for Leopard.

I just hope there are no "major" problems with it (i.e. tons of people buy it and all suffer from the same problem) although it is being pretty thoroughly tested so...

I also hope that the family liscence doesn't break the bank...

Did the dock and menu bar go back to normal yet? What about the Vista grass? Would it really be that big of a deal if the official desktop was a picture of Angelina Jolie? She appeals to young and old, male and female. A Universal Binary if you will. I am not drinking, you can tell because my grammar is perfect and all my ideas very good.

It looks like they've made the dock slightly steeper too though that might be my perception.

Um.... from what I've heard, and I don't know what the deal is, but folder springing has been taken out of this build for the Dock. What gives? Can someone post a screenshot of the Dock pref. pane? Is it somewhere else??

Shaping up well...

It's clear that Apple is listening and that's great. Consider that a number of the improvements addressed issues raised here (although many still remain):

I thought the transparent menu bar was a disaster, but the new one is actually almost perfect. I like it even more than the one in Tiger. I would only like it to be slightly more opaque or blurry underneath because it still seems a bit harder to read and more distracting when using the fish background (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture6sy8.jpg). It would also fit in better with open programs and their window decorations if it doesn't take too much after the desktop wallpaper. After all, 90% of the time we have many windows open and sometimes overlapping. That's how we must judge the look, not based on a clear desktop background with no open windows.

The new window controls are a bit too bright for me, but they're not horrible. I don't feel too strongly either way.

The removal of dock transparency cuts down on some of the visual noise, but I think they could have just reduced it instead (preserving the glass look). Plus, reflections are far more distracting anyway. Although I haven't actually used Leopard so I can't say how annoying or pretty everything really is/was. Although, I can say that icons matching the dock's perspective would be great, though not essential for the effect. These are all fairly minor tweaks and they don't fix the fundamental problems the dock sometimes has (like when you have multiple documents on it). But, these also pros. For example the dock is far better than the Windows/GNOME/KDE/XFCE etc. taskbar when having a dozen or more applications open. At that stage, the text is unreadable in the taskbar on those DEs, but the icons are still distinguishable on the dock. On the other hand, I find the dock less efficient when dealing with fewer programs. Part of this is because if I have maybe four Firefox windows open (or other programs) I can't directly go to the window I want. I have to either use Expose or right click on the Firefox icon and select the correct window. In the other DEs I can do this instantly with one click when there aren't many programs open.

Anyway, Leopard is shaping up well. I'm particularly excited about the technology like Xcode 3.0, Xray, Objective-C 2.0, Core Animation, etc. But Spaces and its other user-end features are very useful too.
