How can you tell which build you are being offered? I only get `Beta 12.0` but I see that the RC is `12.0.1`?

It's likely that 12.0 was frozen, for the advance work of pre-loading the new machines. This won't be the first time that a general macOS/iOS release already has a patch. This is macOS Monterey 12.0.1. Interesting.
This is what you should see in Software Update. How can you tell which build you are being offered? I only get `Beta 12.0` but I see that the RC is `12.0.1`?
are you starting from the `12.0` beta? This is what you should see in Software Update. View attachment 1869988
Exactly this. Likely that when the new MacBooks arrive, people will get the 12.0.1 update as part of setting up.It's likely that 12.0 was frozen, for the advance work of pre-loading the new machines. This won't be the first time that a general macOS/iOS release already has a patch.
I was on Monterey Beta 10. Then I check settings -> software update and it shows this, with the Update now beta.are you starting from the `12.0` beta?
@jdb8167 as per my other reply. 12.0.1 is the RC, build 21A558. See screenshot. Hope that helps. Not seeing 12.0 RC (build 21A558). I don't want to install 12.0.1 (build ??????).
You just added the profile to enable you to update? No idea if the full installer is the EC, but it’ll be beta 10 if not, then you can OTA to RC once done. Are these the right version? I hope I don't end up downloading Beta 10.

Monterey has been surprisingly stable for me on a 13" M1 MBP.Is Monterey ready for prime time or is it going out half-baked because the marketers are running the show?
OK. Makes sense. I was just trying to avoid any Beta update related issues that may arise later. Its safer to upgrade between final builds. You just added the profile to enable you to update? No idea if the full installer is the EC, but it’ll be beta 10 if not, then you can OTA to RC once done.
I was looking at that on Safari 15.1 for Catalina, iPadOS 15.1RC and MacOS 12.01, all the same, back to normal design. Yes we got our way. They completely reverted the Safari UI changes, for the most part. I really want to thank whoever at Apple listened to our loud complaining about the ugly redesign and decided to ditch it.
THANK YOU, whoever you are.
Yea , been stable since early betas for me.Monterey has been surprisingly stable for me on a 13" M1 MBP.
I’ve still got my lovely compact bar on Safari! ? I heard separate has gone backwards, which is a shame. Apple shouldn’t listen to the vocal minority that seem to hate change. They completely reverted the Safari UI changes, for the most part. I don't hate change, I just hate pointless change. The new paradigm was confusing and inconsistent with the rest of the system.Yea , been stable since early betas for me.

Not true, there are ways to know before, I for instance, download the full installer, it is possible to get into the downloaded files and find the build number.Afterwards it will tell you the build number, not with a update being offered.
It wasn't pointless change, it was evolution of the current design. If my 65 year old technophobe of a mother wasn't confused by it, then I worry for someone younger than her that's a keen user of this forum lol ? Personally, I have to have it on compact tabs, I can't go back, as it's so much better, less wasted space.I don't hate change, I just hate pointless change. I imagine they're just going to rethink things and spend some time getting it right for MacOS 12. I welcome change it if it improves the experience, and this absolutely didn't.
I'm in the public beta, running 11.6. Software Update show 12.0 (macOS Monterey Beta). I'm assuming this is not 12.0.1, but rather Beta 10?
Should I download/install this, or should I wait for 12.0.1 to show up? Or would I need to go to Beta 10, then RC?
Yea, was confirmed early in this thread 90 minutes ago, by ph001bi:available for public beta users too ... downloading onto my M1 MBA
Public beta out as 12.0.1
