There is a bug introduced in Sonoma where occasionally if you try to drag a window from one display to the other, when you reach the second display the window collapses into the Stack view (the little 3D angled tiny window that would appear along the left hand side of stage manager) making it impossible to complete the move from one display to another without disabling and re-enabling Stage Manager. Wasn’t an issue on Ventura so it’s pretty annoying as someone who pretty much only uses multiple displays on a daily basis and pretty concerning that Stage Manager is already collecting bugs after only a single year.

Others on Reddit reporting similar issues.

Weird - haven't seen that. No deterministic way to reproduce? As always hard to know if it's fixed if it only happens intermittently...

Can anyone tell me if this update fixes the volume indicator bug? I haven't been able to see the percentage in settings since updating to Sonoma, and it seems to not accurately reflect the correct volume in the status bar like it does within the volume app. It's really strange.
I don't think that there's supposed to be any percentage shown on the Setting app for volume, at least not in Sonoma. My Setting and status bar are consistent with each other in 14.0. But maybe I'm misunderstanding your issue.

Sounds like you need Stage Manager to be enabled to see it. I haven't had this problem either, but I don't use Stage Manager.

Let me apologize in advance if someone already brought this up, or it really isn't new to 14.1 but I hadn't seen it before until: when you right-click on a message, instead of having to choose Tapback… from the menu (or button down press-and-hold on the message), you can select a tapback option directly at the top of that right-click menu.

I think I worded it pretty badly, I was just saying I used to be able to hover the mouse over the volume bar in settings and see a percentage, but now I can't see it either in the notification (which was normal) or the actual percentage by hovering over the bar in settings as well.

I honestly don’t have the bandwidth lately to keep up with all of Apple’s yearly “vanity” updates. The best policy is turning out to be to ignore them until an x.1 update and don’t even consider until x.1.2 or later.

Synchronizing company wide release candidates on the exact same day is suspicious as hell and makes me wonder what Apple’s priorities are.

Careful, though! Some of these "point dot point" updates have lately been a pretty big regression...

I wonder how many bugs here are for people using Intel-based Macs. Before I upgraded my computers earlier this year to Apple Silicon, I noticed a growing number of minor, annoying little bugs and glitches that began to crop up in macOS and began not to be fixed. It has not been an issue on the Apple Silicon Macs.

I haven't noticed any bugs on my Intel 2020 MBA.

My Intel 2013 MBP has a couple of very minor issues, but considering it's 10 years old and requires OCLP to run Sonoma I'\m really pleased. The only annoying thing is that my 10 year old MBP seems as fast for most things as my 2020 MBA!

I am guessing that most performance issues nowadays are related to the SSD speeds. I'm too lazy to check but it's possible my later 256GB SSD is no faster than the older 512 one.

Does this perhaps bring back the dark-ish menu bar (when using dark mode)? Super annoyed by this being bright while dock, windows and all other major UI elements use dark theme.
Finally someone said it! I don't think it's a bug as menu bar now trying to follow the color of the wallpaper, but I agree it would be better if it changed with dark light modes, because having all the windows and dock black and the menu bar white is the wallpaper is bright is not the best look

Does anyone else have issues with Safari / YouTube videos on Sonoma 14.0?

I have an 16” M1 Max and 16” M2 Max MBPs and both exhibit the same behaviour:

When watching videos in normal windowed mode and then going full screen, the video will be in a corner on top left side while the rest of the screen will be black.

Only workaround is to toggle “theatre mode” and then will go full screen properly.

Can someone help me out and test an issue for me? I've long used a folder in the Photos App to randomly cycle thru Desktop Wallpaper, and now when I select any Photos App folder, it changes to the Default Sonoma Wallpaper instead. I'm wondering if this is just me or happening to others, as well? I have no issues selecting a Finder Folder to use, just not a Photos App folder.
It’s not just you, whatever new wallpaper system they implemented in Sonoma screwed up a lot of things.

I haven’t seen your specific issue but I was having an issue where I set the wallpaper color to black and then exactly 30 seconds later, right before my eyes with the settings window still open, the system changes the color back to the default blue color.

Other people have reported lots of different issues with wallpapers in Sonoma, which is not an encouraging sign that the new system is stable and working properly.

I am constantly having issues with YT in Safari these days. Probably the most annoying one is going back to the YT home page after watching a little bit of a video, only to see the video reload over the home page URL.

If this doesn't fix the following issues then I'm so formatting and reinstalling Yosemite and staying there:
  • Desktop icons being completely buggy, not staying where I put them and stacking on top of each other
  • Screen flashing red whenever new content is displayed
  • Messenger being laggy as hell
  • DaVinci Resolve crashing to the point of restarting the machine
I`m using Davinci Resolve and having the same issues. Suddenly a pink screen appears and my MacBook restarts. =/

I normally use the RC Safari Version 17.1 (19616.2.9.11.7) almost 100% in private window format, the only URL exception I have to open in a normal window is Netflix because their logon security requires cookies to allow it to log in. I have no website data except the four from Netflix. No other site does that. Had zero issue with YouTube with 16" M1 Max without the normal window/multiple tabs web cache data being saved/accumulated.

To make sure the menu bar color matches the dark (or light) mode, and not the color of the desktop image, you can try going into System Settings > Accessibility > Vision > Display and toggle "Reduce transparency" to on.
The problem is this is a system-wide option that impacts other things than just the menu bar. There used to be an option for an opaque menu bar, seems it got removed at some point.
