ok then....?

The title says it all, I'm getting more that a bit frustrated with the networking issues on my early 2008 MBP. Sad but I'm begining to think it is time for a class action suit, as my machine has actually gotten worst with each update. I now have the Mac scanning on what where previously reliable hot spots.

I'm not one to normally get wound up over minor defects in a product as nothing is perfect. This has really degenerated into something that doesn't even work properly Since reports are still wide spread on Apples forms I don't think it is a hardware issue.

Dave
umm well have you tried getting it exchanged? they have been glad to help me out in the past.

Hi,

I have an early 2008 MBP (15") and have not had any problems with networking at all. It successfully connects to any available network I have tried.

Maybe they used different airport cards in some models ?

That is odd - should be 9HXX shouldn't it? I have not seen this before... but if you think about it, there is an explanation. Remember the new hardware Apple released recently? These shipped with custom builds of 10.5.6, using the 9HXX and 9IXX schemes - one for the iMac/Mac mini, and one for the Mac Pro. 10.5.7 will unify these, if my theory is correct.

thanks for the info. so a different branch from the tree? what are the main differences between the 9GXX, 9HXX and 9IXX branches?

also, why 9XXX anyway if it's OSX?

i'm new to apple products.

Mac OS X is based on Darwin. Darwin version numbers started at 1 and are incremented every major version. Leopard is the 9th major Darwin revision. The first X is the minor revision number, incremented when Apple releases a new build of Mac OS X or a custom build to support new hardware (as was done for the iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro). The other Xs are for build numbers.

Well, I've been accessing my GMail account in Mail ever since Google enabled IMAP support, and like what seems to be the vast majority of people out there (otherwise this wouldn't be the first time I've heard of this happening), I'm not seeing this.

Are you sure you don't have Mail set up to copy you on outgoing messages (Mail Preferences -> Composing)?

AH I think that could be the solution to the problem.. I have been using Pop(configured via mail since like 10.5.1. I had no idea they came out with Imap support.. lets see if this works!

Apple needs to update the "Configure Automatically" when using gmail to IMAP not POP. Im not sure if this hase been changed since I set it up builds ago though.

Same thing on my new iMac.

Cool, you may want to edit the wikipedia entry for OSX 10.5.6 ... mine's a "Build 9G55." :(

I guess that I should add the caveat that I had to update the machine once I received it from 10.5.4, so that's why I am probably at 9G55. It's not even that old either :( and I wish that I had the 8GB RAM.

Strange, on my iMac it's 9G66

The reason for this is that Apple doesn't follow its own rules sometimes, I suppose. That's the only explanation I can think of. Anyone with a 2009 Mac Pro report on their Mac OS X build number?
