Wi-Fi?

What is going on with this company.

I had 2 previous gen Airport Extreme Base Stations running 2.4 and 5GHz bands on channels that aren't populated which worked perfectly bet all my Mac's and iOS based device. I upgraded my 2x 6th Gen Airport Extreme Base Stations with "ac" (our Mac's and iOS devices are new and use "ac" radio protocol). First few months were great, since 10.9 I've had sporadic speeds, drops, overall inconsistencies. My 2013 Mac Mini HTPC works perfectly directly connected to my modem. I've completely reset both routers, changed the WiFi names and passwords, removed and reset my Mac's saved network settings, yet still have experience random drops, etc.

God I miss Bertrand Serlet and 10.6.

My biggest complaint is how when you open a window in the Finder it takes anywhere from 10 to 20 seconds for files to show up. The same thing happens frequently in Apple Mail when you go to attach a file. Any fix for this major annoyance with this upcoming build?
This is actually caused by DNS servers that "helpfully" return search pages for lookups of nonexistent domains, in this case Backups.backupdb. The best solution is to switch to a DNS server that doesn't hijack, such as Google Public DNS. Alternatively, you can work around the specific cause of this problem using this method.

Still 60 FPS cap with 10.9.2 ?

No updated driver for Nvidia 7xxM ? I have a 780M and it's nowhere as smooth as Windows 8.1...

Issues after update with Office

This might not be the right place to post this but after the last OS update, I'm being asked on a daily bases to type in my product code for my Office 2011 product. Did anyone else have this issue and if so, how did you resolve it??

I had this problem in upgrading from lion to ML. Instead of troubleshooting it, I deleted office off my system and reinstalled it. Fixed the problem.

Because you can actually see a difference between 60 and 90 FPS despite the 60Hz refresh rate contrary to many popular beliefs..

Oh no doubt, motion plays a huge role in this (e.g., games) and "refresh rate" has confused so many people since LCDs have come out, I almost wish they'd swap terminology in this case (not that it matters much anymore). I was just assessing your actual need, that's all.

The only way I know of doing this involves using Quartz Debug (I'd send you a link on Dropbox or something but it's against forum policy) and disabling Beam Sync, but the results are mixed as it isn't a setting that sticks very easily. I've also seen the option under programs like MacPilot but the setting has never worked for me.

You can get Quartz Debug with a (free) Developer account from Apple, the download "Graphics Tools for Xcode ([Month Year])" should have Quartz Debug (I'm pretty sure you don't actually need Xcode to use it).

Is it a messy solution? Yes. But at least it seems to work. As far as I know the setting doesn't stick on close but command+H will hide the window at least. There used to be an old trick that involved force-quitting it to have it stick (at least until restart) which may or may not work with the newest version.

Good luck!

Hey! thanks for your feedback. I'm only wondering why would Apple cap the frame rate of the whole OS ? It doesn't really affect power consumption.

With ML 10.8.5 I get over 400FPS but not with Mavericks. Kinda sad.

I'd really like to see them update the OpenGL to 4.4 in the near future, I don't know why they settled with 4.1. However the main thing I'd like to see change is for Apple to remove the compatibility profile because there's a lot of cross-platform apps like Minecraft and Second Life which are using the compatibility profile even though it's ancient. So if they took out then they'd be forced to move to the core profile like Apple intended everyone to do.

I would really encourage anyone who wants to see updated display drivers to submit feedback through Apple's feedback form:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookpro.html

Especially regarding the enabling of MST and the handling of 4k displays.

They do periodically use the data from the complaints here to get a feel for what issues are important to users.

Here is mine:
As documented at the following link and elsewhere on the internet:

http://9to5mac.com/2013/12/23/new-r...hen-running-windows-mac-os-needs-new-drivers/

The current display drivers for the late 2013 MBPr do not support using MST to drive 4k displays at 60Hz.

This a use case that is supported by the hardware itself, but not the drivers. Display hardware that runs 4k is readily available these days, with more models already announced, so this is a significant compatibility issue.

Please address this as soon as possible.

Experiencing a world of pain on this build on my Unibody 09 White MacBook.

Occasional slow performance (neither the RAM or the CPU are overly taxed when it happens). FPS performance in games has plummeted. Boot up times are sloooow.

Biggest issue for me is that every time I send or receive emails in Mail, it asks me to open preferences and put in my iCloud password (which is already correct and stored). I have to click ok 3 times before it sorts itself out.

Previous build was perfect for me, hopefully they've just changed something significant for testing purposes and the next release will be good again.

Safari push notifications appear to be broken too.

The question is-will Apple ever make Safari more compatible with websites?
Really, it's getting tiresome.

Could Apple tell Netflix that they no longer support the plugin Microsoft Silverlight anymore so we can finally watch Netflix again on our Macs. I do not understand why that plugin is still used by Netflix or why Apple does not think it is important to be supported. If they think it is not important then create a Netflix app like Windows 8.

As far as I know, you can opt to use HTML5 instead of Silverlight, no?

When we talk about "compatibility vs core profile" then we exclusively talk about OpenGL 3 and upwards (OpenGL 3.2, to be specific, which introduced the "compatibility" profile).

Apple never supported the "compatibility" profile (which would include all the fixed graphic pipeline functions in a GL 3 profile)! You only get the "core" profile when requesting an OpenGL 3 (or up) context.

What you are referring to is the plain old OpenGL 2.x context, but that one is not called "compatibility" profile - it's called... OpenGL 2.x context.
