I've installed this beta now a few days... but I think there's an problem with the automatic fan control settings... my fans doesn't spin up when my MBP RT 2012 gets hot.

Normally if I play Candy Crush on Facebook my fans will spin up in 10-15 minutes, but now they don't spin up, even after playing for an hour or so.
And my MacBook Pro Retina gets VERY hot!

If I boot in Windows 8 with Bootcamp then the fans will spin up, so it's a bug in the latest 10.9.3 beta I think?

They don't put direct links for betas on the portal anymore. They are in apple's developer forums now.

Alternatively you can get the seed configuration utility from the portal, install it, and then get the seed from the mac app store.

Yup, they seeded a broken utility dmg/package (~197kb) to get the 10.9.3 update for a bit, a lot of users complained that it wouldn't install. Finally fixed it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not "hating" on Apple. I'm rather disappointed in the direction it has taken (this was during Jobs' tenure as well, nothing to do post-Jobs). Federighi is a good developer/engineer, I do not believe he has the fortitude to pull what Serlet did during his years as OS X SVP with 10.4-6. If OS X becomes anything similar to iOS (i.e. if Apple begins heavy design integration and - god forbid - move to ARM processors), I don't know what I'll do.

In the interim, I'm loving my new Mac Pro! The Pegasus2 R4 array is nothing short of perfect with it. :)

Feedback System Broken

When I go to OS X Feedback page to give feedback on OS X 10.9.2 (http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html)

Under "Which computer are you using?" "Macbook Pro" isn't even listed! Also, there isn't any 10.9.2 listed. How the heck am I suppose to give feedback on my Macbook Pro? COME ON APPLE!

Any Sane profit-making company would prioritize the development of the software that makes them more money. OS X is on the back burner. :(

Mavericks

I installed Mavericks on my Macbook Air. Worst thing I have done. I thought Mac OS couldn't be any worse. I was wrong

Mac OS basically doesn't work, it's FAR FAR too slow to be usable, smooth scrolling my arse. It can sometimes boot from cold in less than 30 minutes, that's great, even faster than a ICL 2900 in 1980.

And the design is dreadful. I mean why the hell would I want to re-open files that I closed last week??? Why would I want to bring all my PDF files into focus at ONCE so that I can no longer see the Word doc I'm trying to work on?

Boot it up. Use Activity Monitor which always running cos there are always problems. Spinning ball. Click on Force Quit on the stupid applications I didn't want to open in the first place. 5 minutes later "are you sure you want to force quit??" Doh that's why I clicked "Force Quit". Spinning ball. Maybe it quits maybe not. Still another ten useless applications to quit before I can do any useful work. Would be quicker to write everthing out longhand.

Then you fall behind, and each year gets exponentially further behind.

I don't understand what you're trying to say. Fall behind with that?

You upgrade whenever the second OS comes out. Apple's usually consistent since Lion to have a new OS update out within 12-15 months.

At no point are you going to fall behind because Apple won't drop support for the previous OS X version until the second OS X version comes out. Apple's still releasing security updates for Mountain Lion and Lion. They'll probably drop support Lion when 10.10 comes out.

I have two MBAs (one is used by a family member), both running Mavericks. I had no problems with them, in fact, it's the smoothest OS release I had for the MBA. Lion/Mountain Lion was horrible, I wanted to install Snow Leopard but no drivers for them. Mavericks changed my mind.

I suggest doing a clean install if you haven't.

He can't just do a clean install -
