Is it possable that Software Update or some other download is how they will confirm you have Leopard to qualify for the $29 upgrade?

Maybe even just Download SL the installer realizes you have Leopard & then they send you the disk for later use? Or even a "Pick up at the Apple Store" option?

I don't think they're going to push SL over a software update. It would be over a few gigs and totally take down Apple's servers easily.

Can't wait to see if there are new UI changes. The new Dock menu is making me think we'll be seeing a UI other than Aqua for 10.6.

Or better yet put both Aqua and the new UI in there for the user to choose between.

The SL beta's are being distributed via software update. Isn't it possable that they could be testing there servers for the general public to Download Snow Leopard. This could be how they confirm that you have Leopard before you get the $29 upgrade price. It's just a thought.

That might be an option. But I think that Apple is not ready (or simply does not care) for online distribution of their Operating Systems. Apple also used SU to update Leopard (Before it came out)

It's a joke. There is no purple stuff. People need to stop that crap.

One thing I noticed right away is the font in Dock Menus are now bigger and looks to have a different font. I have no idea which font.

The WebClip bar in Safari is purple all the way, but I think it was a while back 10.5.x that they updated its buttons to be purple as well, not just with these SL builds ... not to give any validity to the purple stuff ;).

Bigger and different font? Damn, I really hope (and DOUBT even more than I hope) that we get options for that stuff - it's nice being able to fit more items vertically on the screen in the list view dock browsing.

Does sorting work for stacks yet?

Purple highlight menus? I don't know where all of this is coming from! Never seen it!

OS X always uses Lucida Grande font I believe, and I doubt this is going to change..

Anything else new?

i didnt notice it before tell me what to look for and i will :)

Large windows would be slightly choppy. As long as they are not on your machine I think thats a good sign :) (Although Apple might be doing final optimizations)

How is battery life on notebooks?

Once I am home I'll add my 2 cents....

1) I attached the Dock Menu screenshot in my previous post. Font looks different. It is much more responsive when choosing options, has a nicer gray background look (using Graphite look). Also the Menus has shadows and transparent borders. I can't remember what it look like before but it seems different to me. Just look at the last post to see the screenshot.

2) Kernel version is now Darwin Kernel Version 10.0.0b4 and Safari is Version 4.0.3 (6531.4).

3) I know somebody is going to ask, no font smoothing styles, still On/Off.

fonts are definitely different, bigger, and not as bold:

Also, quicktime has been updated from 10.0 (42) to 10.0 (47). No icon change, still can't open avi's or mkv's (and no perian, YOWZA).

I want a level of customization equal to OS 9. I want to be able to change the highlight color for the menus and the title bar font.

I don't like how OS X has no real UI customization.

Put in a new UI and let the user change between the two. Make the menu highlight more customizable, make the title bar font changeable, and have more options for the buttons at the top of the windows.

EDIT: I like the new fonts on the menu dayne33 posted. I hope the rest of the UI heads this direction.

I personally love that they can issue the updates this way now, it's just so much easier. It's like Christmas every time that I update. Does that make me a nerd?

Yes, and it's a good thing :)

It's actually pretty questionable for SQA (Software Quality Assurance).

When 10.6 ships, people are going to get a DVD with the full monty. The DVD installer will need to upgrade a 10.5.x system to 10.6.

*None* of the 10.5.x -> 10.6 installer logic is being tested if Apple is shipping updates to the beta/release candidate.

A certain other major desktop OS vendor is also having an OS beta right now. In contrast, the other vendor is only shipping full DVD kits, and is only allowing updates from the previous released software (no updates from earlier beta/RC builds). Their justification is that the huge majority of customers will be upgrading from released software - so it has *no* SQA value to have people upgrade from earlier builds. If upgrading a beta build doesn't work - they don't care. If upgrading a released system doesn't work - they want to know.

And, the "certain other major desktop OS vendor" has an open invitation for people to download the RC DVD. Their servers must run on a better OS. ;)

And be sure to unplug external drives when upgrading to 10.6. When you have mediocre SQA, stuff happens.

Stop that crap. It's the same font, clean your glasses. :D

Posters can try and deny it as much as they want, but THAT IS Illuminous. Not that Illuminous elements are new. Just look at the examples given in this article:

Quicktime player is different now. Seems you can trim now, don't remember it being there before.

Awesome, anytime an RSS update pops up and I see "Snow Leopard" I always cross my fingers that it's another update.
