Posters can try and deny it as much as they want, but THAT IS Illuminous. Not that Illuminous elements are new. Just look at the examples given in this article:

http://www.appleology.com/2006/12/10/leopards-illuminating-graphical-user-interface-illuminous/

Illuminous looks great, but I really don't like the idea of black-themed windows. It would just be kinda depressing. I do like the idea of black scroll bars and we've seen them already.

Black scroll bars wouldn't go with the current theme, however. Incase you can't tell already, I'm really revved up and I can't wait to see what other UI elements emerge.

I've never heard of the whole "Illuminous" concept but that would be awesome if this was something they had in the vault all the way back to Leopard.

I agree that a full black theme wouldn't be very welcoming, but they could easily implement some sort of grey/matte black theme so that it would match the aesthetics of their hardware.

Regardless of what changes are coming, this is all very exciting to think about.

For an OS release that supposed to be mainly "under-the-hood" changes, there is a surprising amount of time being spent on UI elements!

Quicktime player is different now. Seems you can trim now, don't remember it being there before.

I love that! The square seeker needs to be a circle, though. I'd like to see that implemented in iTunes somehow. Maybe that glassy black could replace the yellowish with black text status are in iTunes.

But again, for that to look nice with everything else, there would have to be a major UI overhaul. It looks like that is coming, though.

Perian doesn't work in the new build???

Sorry about that, I guess based on other posts perian does indeed work. I don't think the perian devs have released a 64-bit version yet (not sure how many of the codecs are actually publicly 64-bit at the moment), and so I have not installed it.

The font change only applies to the regular right click menu. When in Dock Expose, the font is still the original and it looks out of place. I think Apple forgot this one and probably will fix it in the next build.

Do you guys think the bigger and different font could be for the tablet? All of this is pointing me toward thinking that they are perfecting the GUI for touch screen.

This doesn't really apply too much...

I think we'll see SL, iPhone OS 3.1, and 10.5.8 on the same day.

Triple play! Sorry, I've been watching baseball :).

Quicktime is not an option to open .mkv's anymore. as mentioned above perian is broken but i was hoping to see it available natively in Quicktime.

maybe in the future.

should mention that i use VLC for individual files and Plex to manage my videos so no biggie but would be nice.

Do you remember the last time Apple did multiple software releases at same time?

I think Apple will roll it out slowly. The 10.5.8 is most likely coming out next month with SL in late Sept.

OS 3.1 beta 2 is released today so, assuming it gets to 3 more betas with two weeks interval for each beta, it would be released in 2 months. Mid-late Sept. It is not affected by SL since SL won't be released via software update.

iwork doesnt seem to work well.

after updating to build 10A411 iwork doesn't seem to like it.
still opens but the interface is a tad broke.

I think he means an SL build, not SL.

No, I mean SL. The public release.
