Hopefully this fixes the external USB drives disconnecting constantly
Current workaround is to use amphetamine.app to force wake them every 5 seconds
This has been a problem for some- not all drives- since Big Sur. It would be great if these macOS bugs were
finally addressed all these years later. I've got a few perfectly-fine, important drive basically retired, awaiting a time when they can return to active service with a Silicon Mac. Hook them to my old one running macOS <Big Sur or any PC and they are perfectly stable and work as good as they ever did. Bring them back to my newest Mac and a key one can't maintain a connection for any more than 3 hours... sometimes UE'ing in only a few minutes... even during active file transfers when both are definitely awake.
I just gifted a brand new Mac Mini to someone replacing an old Intel iMac. Their very new external was perfectly stable on that iMac. Now, as soon as the screen is turned on, they are greeted with an extensive stack of notifications down the screen about the "unexpected ejection." Unlike the usual scenario, it doesn't seem to actually be ejected- it's still fully accessible- but the notifications (so many of them) is alarming every time.
When mine "unexpectedly eject," they are fully ejected. Have to pull the cable and re-insert to try, try, try, try, <infinity>, try again... or just give up and wait for Apple to get around to debugging this part of macOS. And yes, I've tried ALL of the remedies like cables, hub & powered hub, tweaking various settings, et all. I've tested this so hard and in so many ways, I'm mostly convinced that only Apple can fix it... that it IS- in fact- port management bug(s) in macOS.
Anybody with this issue noticing a fix on the betas??? (Hopefully) Give us some good news.
