Apple today seeded the release candidate version of an upcoming macOS Ventura 13.1 update to developers for testing purposes, with the beta launching less than a week after Apple seeded the fourth macOS Ventura 13.1 beta.

Registered developers can download the beta through the Apple Developer Center and after the appropriate profile is installed, the beta will be available through the Software Update mechanism in System Settings.

The latest macOS 13.1 update introduces Advanced Data Protection for iCloud, which adds end-to-end encryption for iCloud Backup, Notes, Photos, iCloud Drive, Reminders, Voice Memos, and more. The new encryption functionality is available across all platforms and will be introduced in the U.S. with the launch of iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, and macOS 13.1.

With macOS Ventura 13.1, Apple has debuted the Freeform app, which is aimed at creative collaboration. It can be used for brainstorming, planning out ideas, jotting down thoughts, sketching, and other creative purposes. Users can insert drawings, sticky notes, shapes, text boxes, photos, videos, PDFs, links, and other documents, with Freeform serving as a blank canvas. Freeform "boards" can be shared with other people and discussed over FaceTime, with updates from all participants synced to everyone in real-time.

macOS Ventura 13.1 also introduces support for an updated Home app architecture that improves performance for smart home devices, with these features also available in iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2.

Is Freeform good?

Does it have malware virus protection? There are some new very bad malware going around embedded inside png and Excel files.

Freeform seems cool enough, But...... there is no way to put objects in top left corner, placement seems arbitrary. It would be nice to be able to add tables as well. Until then, it is not very useful for me, and hard to use because of the lack of a page based view

Endpoint Security

Resolved Issues

  • Fixed: Third-party security products using the Endpoint Security API might lose Full Disk Access authorization and stop functioning, even though the product remains visible in System Settings. This issue doesn’t affect authorization granted via MDM. (100857507)

SwiftUI

Deprecations

  • In order to improve compiler type-checking performance, we’ve deprecated some Table initializers. They’re replaced with initializers which require an additional parameter that explicitly specifies the type they generate their contents from. This improves type-check performance by avoiding the need to infer a shared type from the bodies of separate closure parameters. For now, these initializers are deprecated. In a future release, those deprecation warnings will become errors. The new initializers add the parameter of:. (101009480)

Build number is 22C65

Also release candidates for Monterey 12.6.2 build 21G320 and Big Sur 11.7.2 build 20G1020
As an aside, the build numbers are cool number/letter sequences to say outlaid. Like they're top secret MI6 Lab files or something. Or Code words for secret weapons.

"Get the 22C65 inventoried and locked away."
"That's a 20G1020, over."

Wait, are the Darwin Kernel Version built on an earlier date on the RC? (Nov 11 vs Nov 14). :p

Thanks!! I think I am more concerned about updating from Monterey "system preferences" to Ventura "system settings" only to find "system settings" missing (inadvertently or by Apple's planned obsolescence) some customizable controls that were in "system preferences" and now I'm miserable. Is there a list of settings controls somewhere that Apple has done away with in Ventura?
