The new architecture requires the HomePod 16.2 beta software, and it causes the Home app not to work with devices updated to iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, or macOS Ventura 13.1.

Or could it also work with tvOS on 16.2?

Just wondering, before I break my home app…

Why does Apple enable a big new feature like end to end encryption in the RC build only? We are only going to be able to test this feature one week before it’s released?

I would hope a large feature like this would have had a lot more testing/refinement behind it than just one RC build release!
Likely because It was tested internally for months against Apple cloud drive, and this end-to-end encryption announcement coincides with todays RC releases.

The AirDrop feature should be optional, as there are certain situations that would warrant a quick AirDrop transfer. Like students in a class and co-workers that don't want to exchange numbers

I am trying to install it, but I keep getting "Software Update Failed. An error occurred downloading iPadOS 16.2" on my iPad. The iOS 16.2 RC installed just fine on my iPhone.

I don’t want air drop to automatically revert to contacts only. 🙄 almost everyone I air drop it’s because I don’t have/want their contact in my phone. And forget now having to explain how to turn that on to people 🙄🙄🙄🙄
100% agree. At work we often have to airdrop to other company devices. These certainly aren’t in my contacts because there are hundreds of them.

This is going to be an absolute nightmare for the non-tech savvy employees.

If anything add the 10 minutes as another option.

Anyone know during testing if this new Home architecture breaks third party products like HOOBS or Starling?

Just installed and it seems like they didn't fix the bug with Home which was present in the betas.
Can anyone actually edit scenes and automations in HomeKit with this release?

This is quite an annoying bug. Editing the exact same scenes and automations works fine from any iOS 16.1.2 or macOS 13.0.1 device.
Is this just a Home app bug or does it also affect other apps like Controller when saving scenes?

Is it possible that the behavior Squuiid is mentioning is related to the new architecture and happens when you update the architecture in the app on the device being used for the betas/RC and needs to have all other devices on 16.2 or 13.1? Maybe the issue clears once all devices that are used for the Home app are updated.

So most likely we will get the official update with external display support on tomorrow (Monday)? It is such a long wait.

True this first incremental release is always an important one that people want, but for the devs/PB testers, the RC is usually the same build against what the general release will be for tomorrow. ;)

Unless Apple and Microsoft are feeling trigger happy, Tuesdays are usually release days. It’s a tradition that goes back to the Stone Age.
I can't remember the last time we had an update on Tuesday. Updates have typically been on Monday (sometimes Wednesday) in recent history...

iOS 16.1 | iPadOS 16.1 | macOS 13.0 - 24 Oct 2022 (Monday)
iOS 16.0 - 12 Sept 2022 (Monday)

iOS 15.7 | iPadOS 15.7 | macOS 12.6 - 12 Sept 2022 (Monday)
iOS 15.6 | iPadOS 15.6 | macOS 12.5 - 20 July 2022 (Wednesday)
iOS 15.5 | iPadOS 15.5 | macOS 12.4 - 16 May 2022 (Monday)
iOS 15.4 | iPadOS 15.4 | macOS 12.3 - 14 Mar 2022 (Monday)
iOS 15.3 | iPadOS 15.3 | macOS 12.2 - 26 Jan 2022 (Wednesday)
iOS 15.2 | iPadOS 15.2 | macOS 12.1 - 13 Dec 2021 (Monday)
iOS 15.1 | iPadOS 15.1 | macOS 12.0 - 25 Oct 2021 (Monday)
iOS 15.0 | iPadOS 15.0 - 20 Sept 2021 (Monday)

Even if you include the z updates (x.y.z), they have been typically been on Wednesday or Thursday, and sometimes Monday. I have not seen any updates on Tuesday for quite awhile, but correct me if I'm wrong.
