10A432 is not the gold master. There's going to be either an update via software update or another seed.

Just my opinion :)
Why is it not seeded via Software Update this time then?

10A432 is the Golden Master.

SL is sure to be released in Sept. The reports of iPods/iTunes being released in sept is all speculation while SL is not. Apple could refresh the line in Oct or Nov or whenever they feel like it.

Considering Apple has refreshed the iPod lineup every Sept for like the last 4 years (maybe even more), I think it is a pretty safe bet they will update again this Sept. That is why they do the free iPod with Mac purchase during the summer... it's to clean out the old inventory to make room for the new.

Yes, but GCD/OpenCL code won't run on Leopard or previous OS. The question is how much resources are developers willing to allocate for OpenCL/GCD if the majority of in the install base isn't on Snow Leopard yet. Majority of developers are not going to code for a new OS until there is a widespread install base and that'll take a while.

At $29 a pop, I wouldnt be waiting too long.

The posts are very confusing. Will the Mac Pro, Early 2008, have full 64 bit support?

As long as Apple does not release an updated firmware to support EFI64, the booter will never allow a 64 bit kernel to run. Keep in mind though, this is not a huge deal for nearly everyone, because you will still be able to run 64bit applications.

ha.

well apart from they made changes to the way OS X is installed / options of how to install and god know whats else.

+

the fact that when people buy snow leopard they wont be installing it via software update.

+

that it is nearing compilation and they are trying to stop the leeks.

How does putting out an easily torrent'able .DMG do anything to stop the leaks?

I'm surprised it didn't leak tonight, but I'm positive it will sometime tomorrow.

well compare the two

downloading a 6.2 GB image and having to burn it to a Dual Layer DVD and then do a archive install.

or lunching software update and downloading 700mb and restarting.

im not even going to bother downloading the next build(s) being so close to "D-day"

thats just me. but i know a few friends who are also doing the same.

Apple would need to make 64-bit drivers for all the components in the Mac Pro 1,1 - which they haven't chosen to do. There are many other machines they are not doing this for too - Including MacBooks, Mac minis and several MacBook Pros and iMacs.

On a Mac Pro 1,1 you will get the same 64 bit support as Leopard from the OS - plus almost all 64 bit system applications (not just Chess).

You will miss out on the TLB performance improvement. And the kernel won't run in 64 bit mode.

It's described reasonably in this article:

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...ard_twice_the_ram_half_the_price_64_bits.html

I still think its BS that they have chosen to exclude older models. Our family Mac Pro isn't even 3 years old and was advertised as a 64-bit workstation, therefore, why have they chosen to ignore its hardware? Seems a bit redundant to me but nevermind. 32-bit it is...

Yes, considering even models less than one year old with unsupported graphics cards like my Radeon 2600 HD Pro :(

Apple have released models in the past AFTER an OS release with cards that did not support things like Core Image. The Mac mini never supported hardware accelerated Core Image and the iBook was released at the end of 2004 with the same 9200 card it had before. This was after Apple released the requirements for Core Image.

It's happened before and it will happen again.

I bought my less than one year old iMac in good faith that apple will fully support my machine for at least a little while. Purchasing a new mac has happened many times before...but it may not happen again. I sure as heck cant affort to buy a new mac every 6 months and already be 6 months behind... not gonna happen.

Too many '...but you can still...blah, blah' - I want full support for good dollars recently spent especially when i could have spent it on the dark side for less dollars and more respect for my money.

If you read what he said - 10A432 is closed to it (hence not it) and they'll issue regular updates to get it closer to gold master.

Personally I am unsure given that there are still many machines not supported yet in 64bit mode which should be.

what about the brand new 13" MBP? are those good to go with this 64 bit discussion?

can anyone post the seed notes here, its only a 20kb RTF file. This will probably shed some light, whether it is or is not the GM seed.

He also said it was just an opinion.

Several sources are saying that Snow Leopard has indeed gone GM. Whether this is that build or not is the question.

Still, it's off that a $2800 machine won't run in 64 bit one year after it's been released. I'm assuming this is still the case with the Mac Pros released this year?

For the 64 bit Kernel it's 4.x and up whether on a Mac Pro or a Macbook Pro for the time being. Just check your system profiler and if your first number is above 4 you're good to go. Otherwise you best hope Apple will provide driver support sometime soon for us 3.x folks.

Either way you look at it though, it's rather disappointing that one pays so much for Apple products and has such a lousy driver support. When you pay 2k+ for a top of the line computer it should have the latest working drivers and keep up with the Windows development of drivers for the same hardware. The H.264 fiasco is just another disgrace. I just wish Windows would make it a point to address this driver issue in their Ads so that Apple would finally wake up. I mean, if you won't allow the hardware producer to write the drivers as its done on windows, then at the minimum you should keep the drivers updated with the hardware or pass on the torch to those willing to keep the hardware running at its best.

from the seed note:
"This Snow Leopard Developer Preview Update includes general operating system fixes for stability, compatibility, and security.

As this is a pre-release build, it is not advisable to use this software on a production system with information on it that you depend on for your business."

not much more interesting info in the note...

Oops! ;)

I really think snow leopard is going to ship with iTunes 9, as it is one of the apps that's still not 64 bit.
