Mirror is working wonderful. I don't see the option to resize the window...

Anyone tried to use VPN with iPhone Mirroring for Europe?
Yep, tried and didn’t work.
I also tried changing the country of my mac to US and the language to English/US but that doesn’t work either.

They must be using the country of your Apple account or something similar.

iPhone Mirroring seems to work pretty well. It's smooth, though I can tell there's some frame drops, not sure if it's just because my iPhone is still indexing from the update. It doesn't look like protected video works through it, so unfortunately no Fitness+ through this application (was hoping to use it in a windowed screen).

I'm not sure if there's a way to use it in landscape? Maybe I'm missing something. (edit: Seems like landscape-only apps will automatically switch it, but if I'm watching a video in Safari, I don't see a way to force landscape).

This is a stalker or controlling partner's wet dream. There should be some sort of notification that pops up to tell you it's being used or this will not end well.

The iPhone has to be locked to be mirrored. If I go to my iPhone and unlock it while it’s being mirrored, it will immediately end the mirroring session, and can’t be started again until the iPhone is locked.

I think that notifications are not working for iPhone mirroring, drag&drop files too (but that's coming later this year).

I've been reading on MacRumors since like 2009 when I got my first and the first aluminium iMac. I'm so excited for Screen Mirroring I had to post about it with a screenshot of my desktop! And it literally *just* works! :D

Can't wait to get the GA on my work MacBook. Multi-device, multi-tasking. Maybe I'll pitch that to Apple's Marketing team! :p

I get the notification on my phone, but I have not tried the drag and drop files yet. That might be coming later like you said.

I know why I am not getting notifications... because I have every messaging app that I am using installed on Mac already and for those apps option is grayed out...

iPhone Mirroring works in Switzerland (which is not in the EU).

Slightly off topic, but it's starting to tick me off how Apple doesn't let us use Health or Fitness features on Macs. I've got a ton of useful data from my Apple Watch, for example but I can only view and interact with it on a tiny ass phone screen. I guess when Macs were still Intel there was maybe some rationale, but at this point everything is running on Apple-built chips. What could the justification be? Do they think that because the Mac is an more open platform we don't deserve to see our own data there?

Does the AI stuff do anything for someone who isn't hooked into the Apple ecosystem? I don't have an iPhone, I use chrome and Gmail and Google photos because they're on every platform. What can smarter Siri do for me?

The problem seems to be that Apple has had second thoughts about Catalyst. Catalyst not at WWDC 2024

They also seem to be having second thoughts about running iOS apps directly on the Mac. Almost every notable app developer opted out immediately, and Apple doesn't allow it for their own apps.

It seems for now their answer to both those things is iPhone mirroring.

It's amazing to me that they built in this sophisticated locating system and built it in to iOS in 16.2 or so, with the sole purpose of region-locking features, so that they can do the bare minimum legally required in each region.

Yes that's a cynical take. As with so many things Apple does, there is both a cynical take and a charitable take and both can be, and usually are, true. I suppose it could be used for other things besides region locking features.

I remember someone asked months ago whether this means everyone gets "bloat" that is required in other regions. The answer seems to be yes. They haven't forked iOS at all, they've just added a ton of region checks.

I do not think that will be as easy as it sounds. Most likely iPhone is using its device location or 4G/5G networks to know if it is within EU boundaries.

I haven't set up iPhone mirroring yet as I was going to wait for the first Public beta for iOS (but now hedging) however I noticed the window snap (I previously used Rectangle) is much much more responsive than before.

But you need to know passcode for target iPhone...
You also have an alert on your lock screen that says "Iphone in use. This Iphone is being used from So and So's macbook"

It doesn't look like it's an actual alert/notification that lights up your phone, makes a noise, and vibrates though. Looks like you'll only see the alert/message if you happen to wake up your phone and look at it.

Say someone's phone is in their pocket or laying next to them. Their abusive partner (who knows the code) hops onto the Mac and starts iPhone Mirroring to snoop through the phone. Will the other person know? Will it ding/vibrate/light up? Obviously someone else knowing your passcode can be a problem, but they could be thinking "My phone's safe, it's right here with me."

At least that's what I've gathered after watching this video. The phone did nothing whenever he started an iPhone Mirroring session. The alert/message only displayed when he woke up the phone.
