I hope that this .1 update, or a future release in the not so distant future addresses this abomination (in addition to other icon and general aesthetic inconsistencies and lazy implementations):

Snow Leopard was fantastic, but it's so 2009... I am surprised at the number of UI bugs in Big Sur, like the misaligned menu dropdowns and some funny stuff happening with certain desktop backgrounds.

However, performance-wise (which is most important) Big Sur has been excellent. My Mac is also running much cooler than it was on Catalina.

I was being sarcastic about Snow Leopard there. ;)

For my use case, Big Sur has been great. Really good. It seems like it has slowed down and lost its speed a little in the betas of late, but a fresh install of release version fixed that.. so that was probably months of code taking it down on my computer. I like Big Sur, and I really wish they would redo the dock design on the home button iPhones to match this new dock design that is everywhere else.

hope this version fixes the slow download on M1 Mac Mini

I only get 700Mbps Down and 940Mbps Up

on my Mac mini I7 I get

940Mbps Down and 940Mbps UP

These 2 machines are on the same line, with the same speedtest server being used, so its defiantly a issue with the M1 chipset.

For my MacBook Air 2019, I don’t think I have alternative not to install Big Sur. The machine came with Catalina and it is slower than Big Sur. Funny thing is the UI responsiveness is a bit slower than my MBP 13” 2014 using Mojave.

Well, I found UI responsiveness slow on High Sierra on my 2016 MBP 13 with Touch Bar as compared to 15" Late 2011 MBP on High Sierra! It was incredibly noticeable and was one of the major reasons I sold that thing.

I think you will have better luck as Big Sur evolves. For all of us, we will have better luck when the M chips evolve. Even at M1, it seems most people are happy and I personally am just waiting for 4 USB ports instead of 2. I am totally okay with the performance of the new chips for my use.

I love it, it made my iMac late 5K even faster! It had this stutter with Bluetooth and Edge browser! Now completely gone
You're saying beta 2 removed the bluetooth stutter? I hope this is also the case for M1 Macs because this has been extremely annoying. (Workaround for me for now is switching to 2.4ghz wifi)

I totally agree to your visual standard. I just hope they take of the glaring technical issues first like proper USB divers implementation. Big Sur has been for me the worst Apple OS ever....

That is weird. Usually something like that is on the network itself not in the software. It may not be the M1 but some piece of code that is doing something wokey I had unusually slow downloads that turned out to be some piece of old outdated software that the updaters had missed.

Hopefully Quicklook won't stutter anymore. Also non-Apple mice work without the UI server process going on a rampage and make the UI stutter heavily.

I'm trying to unenroll from the beta program, unsuccessfully.

I clicked details in software update as the instructions say. I click restore defaults. Still says recent beta available. I have done this twice.

I even re-enrolled in the beta program and turned around and unenrolled....
What version and build of Big Sur do you have installed? If it's not one of the 2 release builds (20B29 or 20B50) you'll be offered the beta. You can resolve this by downloading the full 11.0.1 installer from the App Store and installing that over the top of whatever build you're on.

Waiting for this release to finally update my mac to Big Sur. I’m tired of waiting on Catalina, and unless this version carries any major issue, I will jump straight to macOS 11.1

You can JUMP right now – this 11.0.1 of nowadays is certainly better than any CATALINA (10.15.7) – good preparation before you install Big SUR:
One cleaning with OnyX /Automatisation (nearly all clicked ON except Web Browser History, trash and protocolls) then restart Mac – then Time Machine manually pushed – then restart – then installation procedure can be started without risks... :apple:👍

Nope. Tried that. It says that the 11.0.1 is older than the version I already have and refuses to install.

Things I'd like to see fixed:

1) Watchdogd kernel panic on reboot, plaguing my M1 MBP, 16 MBP, and 15 MBP.
2) AirPods switching
3) Erasing and clean installing M1 Macs without bricking via Disk Utility.

I was sure M1 Macs wouldn't have that ****ing watchdogd KP, but alas...
Interesting. I haven’t seen the watchdogd kernel panic since ... well it sounds like maybe you are a developer and probably know what device I’m talking about.

Does anyone else find it difficult to move to move finder windows on Big Sur? On the 16" I find it difficult to select an open space on the finder toolbar to move, especially on the right side.
I probably just doing it wrong.

Thanks. Well... I actually jumped few hours ago, but not updating my old Mac mini, but getting a brand new M1 MacBook Air. And it is gorgeous (both Big Sur and the laptop).

On the other hand, I appreciate the fact that you’re sharing such tips, but I’m not very keen on using such apps, I’ve been performing clean installs all my life when I want to jump on the next major version of macOS.
