With all the problems I'm hearing regarding Catalina, does this mean I should hold off on buying a Mac?

I mean, is it still a thing where you cannot downgrade the OS any further than the one that your machine came with?

Don't buy this POS right now. At least not until Apple gets to good quality standards. It's mind boggling how this poor of quality can cost so much. Don't make the same mistake as many of us.

HOW DO WE GET THIS//?

If you have your device enrolled In the public beta profile you should be able to get it
I checked for system updates and it was there for me

[edit]

Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming macOS Catalina 10.15.5 update to developers for testing purposes, two weeks after seeding the first beta and a month after releasing macOS Catalina 10.15.4 with Screen Time Communication Limits, iCloud Folder Sharing, and real-time Apple Music lyrics.

Is it just me, or is the first paragraph of these types of articles always a little confusing? "Apple seeded this beta...of an upcoming update...two weeks after that beta...and a month after that update...that had these features..."

Maybe I'll eventually get used to it over time.

So turning off the power nap will fix the issues with the kernel panic? ( Coming from MacBook Pro 16" i9)

My kernel panics (new MBP 16" i9 also) stopped after turning off PowerNap. Other threads discussing the issue on the same equipment, a lot of reports that does the trick.

I would like to see the SMB problems (connecting to shares like a NAS) fixed. This keeps me from updating from Mojave to Catalina.
I wish I could have stayed on Mojave, but didn’t have a choice when I bought the new 16” MBP. Great machine. Catalina is still a mess. My Adobe apps crash constantly on it. Though, to be fair, Adobe and 64-bit is a bit of a nightmare as well.

Ok, here are the results with my MacBook Pro 16" i9. In regard to the kernel panic issue, after updating to the OS 10.15.5 public beta (19F62f) I am no longer having any issues with the shut down and sleep issues resulting in the Kernel panic. I checked it after a few hours and so far so good. I wanted to share these results. Thanks

Will this fix the kernel panics on the new macbook pro 16? somehow I doubt it..

Ok.. I do have an actual fix for the KP sleep issue and also the one related to the GPU panics on the new MacBook Pro 16". And this is not a bs routine troubleshooting process that Apple Support put me through. I went through a week and a half of trial and error and (after ordering a new MacBook Pro 16 to replace this one which I planned to send back, I stumbled across this stupidly simple solution.)

These first few steps are optional:

1. SMC Reset
2. PRAM Reset

Both are unlikely to fix anything.

3. (The actual fix.). Boot into "Internet Recovery Mode" and reinstall the latest version of MacOS (10.15.4 at this time) right over top the existing install. Don't wipe your drive or repartition it, it's entirely unnecessary. Just run the install from Internet Recovery and it should stop the KPs from happening.

My guess is some plist configs or possibly some kexts were not properly updated through the course of the last few differential patches. And a full reinstall replaces those with fresh functional files from the full OS build.

This was not my first step and it was one I was reluctant to do. However I found mention of one person who'd stumbled across the same solution and after buying the new Mac I was willing to try anything.

Since doing it the damn machine hasn't had a single KP. (Color me shocked. SMH)

I guess now I will have to try this, as I installed the public beta 10.15.5 and thought that it worked but later found out back to the panic again. Thanks I will definitely give this a try. I turned off the power nap and going to try this as well.

Successful update!

seems 10.15.5 beta1 is more fast and smooth.

I think that's developer beta 1. Beta 2 is 19F62f, supposedly.

Maybe. The sentence is a bit of a mouthful.

Thoughts on if this will fix the Kernel Panics on a brand new iMac that was sent to me with Catalina already installed?

UPDATE: I was totally wrong. Very, very sorry guys. When I went in to install the Beta on this MBP 16" I checked my power settings and I did indeed disable PowerNap. That still appears to be the only thing that resolves these damn crashes.

And testing the Beta over night, same freaking result.

I have a new machine arriving Monday, if anyone is interested I will post my findings.

Can we please fix all the MacBook sleep issues and external monitor problems! I've never seen a release go this far with so many major bugs unresolved.

Might be just my machine (MacBook Pro 13" 2018) but as of this beta, my external monitor problems (especially when waking up the MacBook via external keyboard) seem to be resolved. :)
