I have a theory that this year is the last for the 4S. It lines up with next year when the Apple Watch is released that all available iPhones (5C, 5S, 6, 6+, 6S?, 6S+?) support it.

Ipad air and mini 2

Has anyone tried 8.2 beta 2 on ipad mini 2 or ipad air 1? I tried beta 1 a while go, and it made it smoother for a few days, then everything got much more sluggish again, so i downgraded to ios 8.1.1 and jailbroke it.

Is beta 2 smoother than beta 1?? Especially on ipads? Iphones are already smooth on ios 8.1.2. Ipads often have jerky animations, much more often than iphones.

I think the bug comes from the keyboards themselves that crash and you're then reverted back to the standard one. But, people will blame Apple anyway...

No, majority of it is iOS's fault. Even Apple's stock keyboard is crashing and that's what this beta is attempting to fix.

I've seen the same issue with no third party keyboards, just the stock keyboard and it would eventually "reboot" itself. Sometime, the stock keyboard shows up in weird locations in different apps.

Some of the crashes are likely because of strict memory restrictions Apple've placed on the custom keyboards, so the devs do have to optimize and keep their keyboard very light with less features.

It would be really nice if they could get HealthKit to work right. It seems that many on the iPhone 6 are having problems where it just says NO DATA and you have NOTHING AT ALL even when other apps are working.

They have replaced my iPhone 6 Plus 3 times and still can not find out why it gets that NO DATA no matter what I use. :(

Wait, you mean an OS upgrade that won't slow down my old and outdated iPhone that I got two years ago to push me to carry a bag full of money to Apple again?

Presumably iOS 9 will be for iPad 4 and newer, iPhone 5 and newer. So yes, hopefully all those devices run very nicely.

But my main concern is people reporting lag/bugs in iOS 8 with the iPhone 6 or the 5S.

Better ask jonny Ive ios 7/8 is his baby

I think the guy has run out of ideas with pretty much everything. IOS 7/8 are crap, despite 7 being much better. The iPhone 6s' design is too thin and uncomfortable to hold. He should have made the iPhone 5S larger.

I seen a women with a iphone 6 today at a cafe and I could not help thinking the back looks ugly .

Unfortunately, Apple is now in the premium case game. Apple wants you to buy a leather case to give the phone additional thickness to make it comfortable to hold.

Turning on iCloud Photo Library on iOS 8.2 Beta 1 will cause lag and you will have little indication that it is running. It will run over Wifi and you won't see the pinwheel indicating that a transfer is taking place. The only way to check is to go to the iCloud Photo Library settings.

Yes, that 240M phones they'll sell till next year sure will prove your assertion. No question about that... Nobody ever buys Iphones anymore because they're all sold out... (paraphrased from Yogi Berra).

It's possible. I haven't tried coding any keyboards, so it's not an area of expertise. It's ultimately impossible for me to tell without digging into error reports and code, but I've seen odd behavior with a few different third party keyboards in Messages and App Store reviews and other places.

I'm not anxious to blame Apple. Overall, iOS 8 has been seemed fairly reliable. I have a few minor UI issues in a few places (some longstanding), and I've reported a few reproducible bugs (e.g., deleting a downloaded track in Music with no data connection fails and locks up the Music app 100% of the time). But I've used iOS 8 on an iPad 2, and iPad 3, an iPod Touch 5th Gen, an iPad Air 2, and an iPhone 6, and it mostly works fine. I was ecstatic when my work gave me the choice of an iPhone 6 to replace my old HTC One (M7).

I know the watch works with iPhone 5.

I was asking about the iOS8.2 is for iPhone4S or not. I think it is, i saw some screenshot on some site, showing its for iPhone 4S too. Maybe 8.2 will be last.

Sorry, I thought you meant the watch. Presumably there will be other bug fixes, meaning 8.2 will work with the 4S.

Some people use it 4S, there is a definite slowdown; how much you tolerate it depends more on you than anything else. Find someone with a 4S phone with 8.1.2 and see how you like it.

Myself I use a 3GS with 6.1.6 that some people call unusable... But, I've had no issue with. The biggest issue for 6.1.6 on 3gs : starting new apps and switching between apps.

I haven't spent much time on looking through what 8.2 to iOS devices in the Dev portal, and I haven't installed it on any of my devices. Reading through some of the negative comments here, I empathize with most of them.

My take is Apple needs to spend more time on the next major update which contains "killer" features and issue something like iOS 8.5/.6 to tide us over. I was there for Mac OS 7/8 - the x.0 versions sucked bigtime, but Mac OS 7.5/.6 and 8.5/6 were frickin' solid. I was working in desktop publishing and video at the time and the Mac x.5 and x.6 versions of those OSes, like the last version of Snow Leopard and versions of iOS 6/7 were dependable and usable, even in a production environment.

Gotta head to the store, I'm all out of whine, for now... :)

As of now, 4S is pretty usable device with iOS 8.1.2. Its better than 6.1.6 on iPhone 3GS. And its nothing like iOS 4 on iPhone 3G, which almost bricked the phone, you rather use a feature phones instead of iPhone 3G with iOS 4 on it.

But there is a slowdown in 4S, its not lightning fast, but pretty usable.
