This beta appears to have fixed my printing issue with 'smnpink' keep popping up. Thank you Apple as this was annoying.

As an FYI, 10.10.5 does NOT have the option to enable Trim Support for 3rd Party SSD's like 10.10.4. (if you haven't done so already). Once you enable it, and update to 10.10.5, you're fine, but you can't enable it from 10.10.5.

My MacBook updated to 10.10.5. When I went to enable Trim support via "sudo trimforce enable", it would give me an error that "command not found". Reinstalled 10.10.4, and was able to enable TRIM support no problem at all.

Something went wrong with your update to 10.10.5. Trimforce is still there, and still works.

I will give my impressions of Windows 10!
Tried Home and Pro on 3 different machines.
1) 2 yr old notebook-FAIL BUGGY
2) 2 yr old PC w/i5 and 12 g memory-FAIL BUGGY
3) Mid 2011 Imac w/ 12 g memory under OS X 10.10.4, Parallels 10-FAIL SAME BUGS
Rather than go into great detail, It ran slow as Sh**, where w7 runs fast!
Disk access was slow, and the new browser, EDGE, was fast but a royal pain, waiting for pages to finish loading to use it!
Many "features are "hidden" and you must use the search bar to get to them, including most control panel settings!
In each case, I reverted back to W7!
OS X 10.10.4 runs great here BTW!

Sorry to read this, but it seems you're alone on this one. Don't be a drama queen. There are bugs, but nothing like the way you say it.

To the knowledgeable beta testers of 10.10.5 beta, a simple question:

I have a friend that used the iPhone's phone number for Messages. What's strange the messages they receive, it's not appearing on the iMac, just only on the iPhone. Does the 10.10.5 update allow the iMac to receive messages from iPhone phone numbers? If not, how can the iMac be able to receive messages destined to the phone number show up on the iMac?

Thank you.

I have fallen in love with this desktop, which goes nice with Yosemite:

Unfortunately it's not in 5K, but at least it looks great on Snow Leopard.

Apple today seeded the second beta of OS X 10.10.5 to developers, two weeks after seeding the first 10.10.5 beta and one month after releasing OS X 10.10.4 to the public. Because we're just a couple of months away from the public release of OS X 10.11 El Capitan, it's possible that OS X 10.10.5 may be one of the last updates to Yosemite.

Today's beta, build number 14F19a, can be downloaded through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store or through the Apple Developer Center.

The first OS X 10.10.5 beta did not appear to include any consumer-facing changes, so it's likely that this update focuses on behind-the-scenes bug fixes and performance enhancements.

Over the course of its lifespan, OS X Yosemite has received four updates. The first two brought bug fixes and security improvements, while OS X 10.10.3, the most significant update to Yosemite, introduced the new Photos app, Force Touch APIs, new emoji features, and more.

OS X 10.10.4, the current version of Yosemite, also focused on bug fixes and stability improvements, most notably introducing TRIM support for third-party SSDs and eliminating the Discoveryd process that caused ongoing connectivity issues in the OS.

Yosemite still has 3 problems, 1 fixed in El Capitan, 2 not.

#1: The Display Preferences Boot LOGIN Screen in Yosemite still does not work as in Mavericks.
It always boots to the wrong display.

#2: Apple refuses to support double sided USB cables that you can plug in either way.

#3: Bluetooth issues are not fixed still even in El Capitan yet.

I just don't understand why these simple fixes can't be done. I mean Maverick boots to the right display, so does El Capitan. How can they not know the solution to this problem for Mac Pro users with multiple displays and all kinds of different connections?

For number #2 above, it's a hardware issue for current Macs. They may support it in future Macs or use USB-C for the connection port. I would think it would be USB-C that Apple will use for future connection ports since the current MacBook utilize the connection.

Hope this helps.

Why on earth are they developing a new os every single year????? Get a life apple. Missed you snow leopard so much

As time goes on and more and more personal devices get "connected" (i.e. the internet, peer-to-peer, etc.) the consumer expects more and more possibilities.

If we were stuck at 10.6.8 (as many regard this as the most stable OS X version - personally I find 10.4.11 even more stable...) you wouldn't be able to keep up with the needs and wants of the modern consumer.

Consumers expect smartphones, tablets, hybrids, cameras, notebooks, etc. to be able to sync with each other, be online anywhere and anytime, use apps across platforms, have access to all their data, etc. which makes it a necessity for companies like Apple, Microsoft, etc. to develop new features. These type of features (like handoff, AirDrop, etc.) are more and more based on connectivity. It's one thing to enable such a possibility (using hardware like Bluetooth, Wifi, SSO) but it's another to make them safe and secure.

Enabling all the wanted connectivity features, but keeping an eye on the needed security features makes it tough enough to have to develop those features based on new technologies, i.e. a new OS.

.....

Myself I was talked out of putting a Samsung Evo 840 SSD into an older (2010) iMac, due to fans spinning at full tilt, all the time, but apparently SandBoxGeneral, one of our mods thinks he has a workaround for that, and once I locate that post again, I will run it by my trusty (former) Apple Genius Repair guy, who has set up shop himself, and go ahead with that SSD upgrade, especially now that Trim can be enabled. .

Every once in a while I'll hear someone bring that up, and it drives me nuts because there's already a few good (and safe) options to keep the iMac fans from running at full tilt, including Macs Fan Control:
http://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control

It's been out for a while, I've been using it with an SSD inside my 2011 iMac for the past two years, works on both the Mac side and the BootCamp partition, and works flawlessly.

Oh, by the way ... it's free.

Probably a stupid question, but once public release of El Capitan drops, will I be able to go from Yosemite Pre-Release to El Capitan normal release?

I think everyone who talks about Snow Leopard 10.6.8 is not that we want to be "stuck" with the OS, but the concept of how and why it was created: worked, fast, streamlined, got the job done and felt light, not bloated with not many major issues when released.

I also still use OS 10.6.8 on one of my systems. Runs fast still and efficient.

It's fast and efficient as it has less features, and it had time to mature (IIRC 10.6.0 - 10.6.2 had bugs too...)
Like I said, Mac OS X 10.4.11 was very fast and efficient too. Perfect OS on PPC Macs.

It's finding the right balance between more features & more bugs <> less features & less bugs.
It all depends what you find more important. The quicker you want the newer features, the more likely you will run into bugs.
A modern consumer (and one that Apple seems to target) likes to use new features quickly. New iPhone,  WATCH, MacBook, iCloud, etc. and is one that will probably update the moment it's possible. Apple makes sure the OS and apps are very easily updated. Chances are he could run into bugs, but probably no show-stoppers.

The pro-user, OTOH, will be cautious. Is the OS update bug-free (enough)?. Do the mandatory apps work alright? Is there a reason to upgrade? etc.

Sorry to read this, but it seems you're alone on this one. Don't be a drama queen. There are bugs, but nothing like the way you say it.

Not being a Drama Queen, Luis!
I am NOT Alone, if you do a simple Google search, you will find the items I mentioned, ie: slow boot times, video driver issues, oops, " SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED" and lots more.

I am not throwing out my created USB installers, but will wait for some more patches...OH, and also there is the AUTOMATIC UPDATE, if you want them or NOT!

I have found, of late, that it is best NOT to be an early updater, be it OS X, or Windows. I waited for OS X 10.10.3 before finalizing my Imac.

Huh, alone, I've read plenty about bugs and problems. In fact, praise has been pretty faint for Windows 10. When someone's whole comment is "it's better than Windows 8", "it's as good as windows 7" or "meh" in the best of cases, you know you've not hit a home run....

Windows 10 is basically an outgrowth of 8.1, so its like they've had 3-4 years to get it right... And its still not that great.
Expectations must have been mighty low!

We like bug fixes.. :D.. although Windows 10 beats Apple this time, maybe they should have taken more time like Apple does.

Some do say that "Windows 10 will be the best ever", but u just know at some stage MS has to get it right sometime...

Seems Apple gets its right all the time..... :apple:

This is true: if you want close to full stability, then it's better to wait at least a couple of months to update to a new OS. I personally updated 4 computers from my family, coming from Windows 7 and 8: one HP notebook from 2009, one simple desktop from last year, another Samsung Series 9 and my rMBP 2013. I had no issues with any of them, but the Mail app is still pretty buggy anyway. My parents are relieved that they got rid of Windows 8.1, which was horrible.
The installation found drivers for ALL OF THEM, except my Mac, but Bootcamp drivers took care of this. :)

Windows 10 is not an outgrowth of 8.1... If you try it, you'll see. It's so much better in many ways and if you start to think that Microsoft manages to make it work on THOUSANDS of PC parts and combinations, that is truly amazing and the job is pretty much well done this time.

Finally...after a year of waiting for OS X Yosemite to get stable and working the way it was suppose to be over OS X Mavericks it finally works.

Now...another....OS X El Capitan comes out and so far riddled with bugs to be worked out in the beta. OS X El Capitan is suppose to be the improvement over OS X Yosemite, but so far in the beta version has a long way to go.

This has happen every year since I can remember. We have to wait a year until the "New" OS X is stable and working properly and then considered "old" and outdated once it finally works...then another...

Humm....maybe in my mind I should think when a new OS X comes out officially, it is a beta for a year until it is finally stable. Just think that when the fall season occurs, the release of a new OS X is a preview edition until a year later...

I cannot believe what I am going to say: After twenty years of Microsoft's attempts at putting an OS out the first time that works out of the box....I think that finally hit it with Windows 10.....

Might have to stick with OS X Yosemite for awhile....

Snow Leopard...I am dreaming...

El Cap is in beta. It's likely to be bug riddled!!!

I agree with you on this one. Unreliable at best. Why oh why are we still plagued with this and any sort of wifi issues in mid 2015?

Premature release
I think this is a way premature release and todays update made it worse! I cannot receive and send emails. The feedback app does not function any more and there are many other issues both with other apple applications and third party applications.

As I cannot send feedback I can't even leave the Public Beta!
