I am with you. Apple's software quality control went from being one of the best, to where we are now, whcih is absolutely terrible.

I think they have hired a new guy and he is going to change the direction of software development to address these exact problems. They knew it and hopefully this new guy can get it back to number one again. There was an announcement somewhere I will try to get a link.

As I've posted in other related threads, I'm not in a rush for a bad job. If this needs to go to beta10 - as long as it works as it should - then I'm fine with that. I am one of the unfortunates with a late-2013 15-MBP with graphic performance that went slow (when connected to a 4K monitor).

That said, it is the pressure to support new hardware that will drive this release. So if new hardware is announced tomorrow, then a release won't be far behind.

I'm unfortunately forced to contemplate upgrade... got a serious issue with a Steam sim that stopped launching a few days ago, and Steam tech support won't go any further until I bring my OSX "up to date". Which I fear will break all sorts of things. I'm using the Steam sim for a dev project of my own so I kinda need it... Sigh. Hoping 10.13.4 will be reasonably stable when it is finally released, next week, April Fools, whenever...

My maxed out 2013 iMac runs horribly on High Sierra,
Thumbnails of deleted folders appear on desktop , graphic glitches, freezes, ...

I really wish I could run Snow Leopard

It bricked my iMac ... beyond repair
Written on... exactly this iMac

It's happened before - doesn't strike me as unusual for a feature-heavy update. Most point releases are mainly bug fixes, but this one has official eGPU support which undoubtedly has some major driver and / or deep plumbing updates, plus cloud messages, a feature that is critical to get right.

What driver / dev tool is giving you issues? I'm still on Sierra, but I was thinking of upgrading to High Sierra in another point release or two.

That's pretty much been my MO for the last few releases. The new features in each new OS haven't been compelling enough for me to risk compromising my system's stability.

Ok, let me help you understanding what Beta testing means. Were do I begin...

I've been waiting for this update to go final for some time as it fixes all the issues I've experienced with High Sierra. I'm glad however that they're fixing many more problems with each update instead of just throwing it out there like the previous ones.

I cannot remember another macOS release where I've had to stay on the prior version so long due to show-stopping bugs (in my case, SAMBA file share support and even AFP file share support being incredibly poor).

Oh I wish for Apple to implement eGPU support for Nvidia GTX1070 card but I know it's just not going to happen within before the summer. :(..

Thank you for pointing that out. I remember reading that too in a recent MacRumors article a couple of weeks ago. While I'm glad to see that Apple is taking steps to fix this, unfortunately it has gotten bad enough that I will still withdraw from upgrading to their new operating systems. I will take a wait-n-see approach for the next couple of years. I am certainly hoping things change!

So Apple has hired -a- new guy and is going to single handedly change the direction of software development...

It’s worth noting that with a pretty cheap external SSD, it’s relatively easy to test drive a new OS, and keep tabs on the progress of .x.x updates every couple months or so.

One person’s dealbreaker is another’s don’t care, and since there are always bugs, the real question is whether the ones in the newer version are better or worse (however you define that!) than the ones in the OS you’re currently running.

Like everyone, I do look forward to more robust OS releases, and like most I’ll take a slower rollout of new features if that’s what it takes. The developers and QA can certainly do better than they’ve done, but it’s not trivial to achieve. I suppose some combination of better management/higher priority/more focus, better automated tools, maybe some AI and for QA in particular, probably additional staffing. (But just throwing more people at the current system is definitely not the answer, and would more than likely give the opposite results of those desired.)

Does it help if you install the NVIDIA Web Driver? You can easily switch between the ”Default macOS Graphics Driver” and the ”NVIDIA Web Driver” and do a restart, so it won't hurt to install it:

NVIDIA Alternate Graphics Drivers for macOS 10.13.3 + Supplemental Update (17D102)
https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/387/WebDriver-387.10.10.10.25.161.pkg

The driver only works with that specific build of macOS, but NVIDIA is usually quick (a day or two) to update the driver when a new macOS update is out.

Not sure, but If one installs the NVIDIA Web Driver I think there might be support immediately. At least the tower Mac Pro's can use GTX 10XX series GPUs already if installing the correct Web Driver.

Apple should support AFPS for all disks, including external booting ones and Time Machine. Additionally, Apple should disclose APFS details to developers like Alsoft to release DiskWarrior for it. Until then, it is a deal breaker!

Biggest mistake I made was upgrading to High sierra. Firs of all it broke FCPX on my iMac in 13.2, now after 13.3 supplemental update my iMac uses all its graphics memory all the time and runs at 60C + all the time when it would previously run at around 50. Not to mention the image retention issue.

This might be the first MacOs i've ever skipped since OS 10.0... Just too buggy with my 2013 macbook pro with 750m.

Same here, though since 10.6.4 in my case.
Every point release I sneak into forums to check comments, for that reason! I think I’ll skip overall High Sierra & wait point 3 or 4 of the next one.

Same exact thing. I've had macs since tiger and never skipped an OS. I have the late 2013 mbpr with the 750m and it's been a disaster with high sierra. I'm gonna wait till the 10.13.4 final release and if it doesn't fix things, which i'm most probably sure it won't, I'll be DOWNGRADING to sierra. I can't believe I used that word. 15+ years with apple and never used that word.

A couple of months ago, it took awhile to diagnose and exorcise the CUDA foo on the system. This was installed long before Nvidia created the web driver interface they have now, so removing it was a terminal surgery. That was strike one. I then installed their web interface, and after a couple of updates with no improvement - strikes two and three. I now use the Apple driver. Not great, but they work. At this point, I am not interested in being a test bed for Nvidia. Though I do check in from time to time with this thread, which tracks the current situation.
