After the previous beta update, I started getting kernel panics, with alarming frequency!, but this update cured it. Very curious.

Is every single beta seed really worth an article?

Yes. Now go soak your head.

Because Yosemite was not only extremely unstable and filled with bugs, it also looks ugly in my opinion.

Well, Yosemite's appearance is a matter of opinion. I LOVE the cleaner, more simplified look. But I also see some inconsistencies, and I can totally see how you or anyone else would not like the design at all.

As for the 'bugs.' That is not a matter of opinion. Yosemite had very few bugs, actually. What it did have was a low tolerance for bad housekeeping. IOW, if your Mac had issues with Yosemite, there's about a 90% chance it was your fault.

Maybe so, but you're posting this in a thread about a beta seed.

I don't know why people are pointing out, with a negative undertone, that it's the seventh beta. If there were fewer betas, or more betas, or if the release cycle were shorter, or longer, it really wouldn't say much about the quality per se. It can be argued that a lengthy public beta cycle gathers a lot of feedback, which is ultimately good for quality. Conversely, sometimes there are benefits to keeping something private for a while.

The biggest issues with 10.10.x appear to be in the area of Wi-Fi, likely due to discoveryd, AWDL, and Continuity in general (which is presumably what necessitated/encouraged the former two). Wi-Fi is tricky to get right with a huge variety of configurations, so it makes sense to do large-scale tests and surveys in public. Which is what Apple is doing.

I just wonder if the wifi problems could be linked to certain brands of routers. I have a NetGear N600 and have never had a wifi problem with my 15" late 2013 MBP.

I'm taking about the feature cycle. Apologies if you're misunderstanding my meaning here.

What they need to do is apply their hardware approach of refresh then refine to their software development. [3G - 3GS, 4 - 4s, 5 - 5s etc like Intel's Tick Tock]

It feels like they're trying to do too much and are losing their edge in the process.

Like you say, this last year is worse than ever. Less is more. Quality over quantity. It has to get better at "just working" again.

What's crazy is that, as far as notification centre widgets and third party app sharing are concerned, they're basic features that have been in Android for years. I honestly don't understand, especially in the case of iOS 8 how they are doing too much. There's obviously mismanagement within the software development team or some institutional issues because i cannot fathom the issues they're having with bugs.

I disagree, i think Yosemite added functionality with a good update to the UI. Though buggy, i don't know, it has been for me in terms of laptop restarting in Sleep Mode.

.

I was referring to OS X.

hello! does anyone have any problems with the trackpad on macbook pro retina 15 ? mine has a strange feeling to it since the last two betas. like its not as responsive anymore . could this be because of the force touch introduction? thx

You can't support this statement with anything. 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 were released so close together because they had to be because OS X so was unstable and lacking in features.

How is that not ANYTHING? Thats multiple yearly releases under his watch, and Leopard was well known to be late, but I have some evidence at least. You can argue the other way, but I'd like to see Jobs saying something like "longer gaps between releases is important to us" or something.

Otherwise your being outright hypocritical.
