Yeesh, there's about two pages on the low power mode/light shift business!

Seems fine after install (6s) and has been stable all day.

Only thing I thought different with this beta: the update was already there and pushed/downloaded when I woke up today (JP time). The "1" badge was showing on Settings.

Why can't they just go with a black background instead of making a workaround to the brightness of the overpowering white? It just seems like they're making more work for themselves.
Reskinning all of iOS to have a black theme is far more time consuming than providing the option to shift the color warmth of the OS.
Also, consider how such a reskinning would work for third party apps; they’d have to be complaint with it, which takes time. Imagine months of slow and awkward transition before most developers incorporate this feature -- some apps would have a dark UI alternative when nightshirt mode is activated/used at night, while others would still be stunting to the eyes because they aren’t optimized.
Simply offering to add an overlay of warmth atop all system colors gets the job done without asking for developer compliance.

Because that completely misses the point of Night Shift & what it does. It's also potentially worse for the eyes & beyond that, can be a real ******** if you suffer from astigmatism.

Makes me wonder if iOS 10 will throw down all the effort that was put in six betas of 9.3

Yes it will. The pattern has been to introduce a rough iOS since iOS 7 and then polish it with updates as time passes. Apple will do the same thing with iOS 10. My advice is to stay on iOS 9.3 until iOS 10.3 debuts. This will save people a lot of grief and heart burn.

I would like to see Apple release updates in a more consistent fashion. 9.1, 9.2, 9.3. Why? Is the software 9.0 not watertight on the initial first release? If not, why not.

The fact that the most complained about problem is '3D Touch in landscape isn't at 60fps' just reflects the stellar job Apple are doing at creating software these days.

People keep on saying Apple are getting worse with software quality but I feel it is the absolute opposite, and it's actually the users that are just becoming more and more picky as time goes on.

Hey guys, with respect to this low power mode / night shift discussion... does anybody know why the night shift option should use more battery? It doesn't make too much sense for me. It's just changing the color temperature of the screen. Why should that make the phone use more resources while active?

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm really excited about using Night Mode when it's released because I think there is a truth about this study. I firmly believe that using a phone or iPad or laptop at night before going to bed DOES mess with your body in not letting it fall asleep faster or more naturally and I think Night Shift will help a lot of people maybe more than you think.

One would think it would actually use less resources or battery because I always thought that bright white screen always meant using more of your battery, the reason why turning down brightness usually helps your conserve battery so if night shift takes the white brightness go away that it would help conserve battery. Maybe with night shift enabled there is no need for low power since night shift is using low power.

But there is a lot more in low power mode than turning down brightness.

Some discussions of that have been brought up in a few replies earlier in the thread.

Well, it's not so much that the brightness changes with Night Shift as the color temperature.

... and I thought we were all the beta testers for their mobile OS plattform... Damn, was I wrong...

On a serious note: Getting volunteers to beta-test their software absolutely free of charge allows them to cut costs for "real" beta-testers on a payroll. A shame in my opinion, but many OS vendors do that nowadays.

This is actually a common misconception - it's always worked but requires you to vary the pressure on the display in an unnatural way to hit the top force level when your first touch was too deep or the presses are repetitive.
In <9.3, when you can't seem to get force touch to trigger on the keyboard, release some pressure on your finger and hard press again (without lifting your finger) and it will catch... Not sure if the press algorithm changed in 9.3 though.

After I mastered the feeling, I could tell a day and night difference and haven't thought about how to trigger it again.

Just tried this and it worked - thanks!

Wouldn't paid, internal testers, be Alpha testers?

Eclipse does a very good job of this without any re-skinning. I had some very cool colour schemes. A few apps wouldn't play nice but they were few and far in between.

I recently was given an iPhone 5 and it's really the first time I've used iOS. I was an avid Apple/Macintosh owner/user in the early to late 90s but moved away after getting tired of all the proprietary stuff. I'm pretty impressed still with some of Apple's software and it seems their proprietary ways are still going on and with the iPhones sadly, but perhaps some of the still avid apple/iphone users can help me figure out if I want to keep my iPhone 5, purchase a 6 or 6s? Does the iPhone 5 still hold up compared to the 6? has anyone moved away from iPhones and iOS recently and if so why? As an avid Android user I do miss it dearly and like how much better and open the OS is but I've oddly developed a liking for Siri. Granted Android also has voice interface and does it better in many ways but something about the feel of Siri just makes me like it better. But all this said does anyone know if Apple Maps is being worked on? It seems pretty behind compared to Google Maps. Also is there some sort of API so that 3rd party apps can use Siri? What's the deal with that? I am looking forward most to the newer notes because despite there being better Note Apps they don't support Siri, unless I am missing them and if that is the case can someone direct me to which Apps do use Siri? Is there a way to use Siri while my iPhone is not plugged in? I hate that I can not use it while it's not plugged in without pushing the home button, that sorta defeats the purpose doesn't it?

Sorry for the long ramble.

I don't know the answers to most of your questions, but I do know that the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus can both use the "Hey Siri" feature (hands free) without being plugged in.

I'm assuming you are talking about NightShift. The entire point of NightShift is to reduce blue point. Has nothing to do with darkening the screen. A 'dark mode' would still have a blue point.

You'd still be better off with a black theme since there's still quite a bit of blue wavelength with nightshift, and better yet, combine the two (black background and blue-reduced).

anyone else have iBooks delete pdfs from their iPad after installing this build?

to make it worse, they're also disappearing from iBooks in the latest os x seed.

iBooks and and iTunes don't seem to sync anymore either

How's the Issue With iPhone 6s & 6s Plus Not Updating Battery Percentage correctly?

Did anyone else have an issue with daylight savings this morning? I had to manually turn off the time update and then turn it back on to get it to show the correct time for US Eastern time.

I just had to give it a few hours this morning and it fixed itself. My watch actually reflected the right time though.
