Apple today provided developers with the sixth beta of macOS Tahoe 26 for testing purposes, with the update coming a week after the fifth beta.

Registered developers can download the new beta software through the System Settings app.

macOS Tahoe features Apple's Liquid Glass redesign, which extends across all of the new updates this year. Apple also brought the Phone and Journal apps to the Mac for the first time, and introduced a new cross-platform Games app.

With the update, Apple overhauled how Spotlight works, enabling new functionality that allows it to be used to complete all kinds of actions like sending emails without having to open up an app. There are also changes to a number of apps, including Messages, Safari, and Notes.

All of the new features that are included in macOS Tahoe are outlined in our dedicated roundup.

macOS Tahoe is set to launch this fall.

For those with a 2019 16" Intel MacBook Pro, this is the first Tahoe beta that gave me back fluidity instead of all the stuttering when moving around windows/workspaces.

Finally! (Still not perfect but they definitely tweaked something).

We called these NSServices at NeXT and were integrated throughout NeXTSTEP/Openstep; and for the life of me the fact they gutted out NSNetwork Server Side services instead of modernizing NetInfo and all the services underneath not to mention being able to integrate naturally with NSF servers, etc., is just sad.

To all those that don't need it they'd never know it was there, but to folks who can utilize such features it can greatly enhance professional workflows with in-house and third party OEM apps.

That is good to hear. This has been a rough beta for those of us still on the Intel chips.

Hoping there's a fix for the indexing issue. I had just started to use Spotlight a little more before I had to shut it down. Ah, Beta Life!

this happened in the beta 6

for me anyway

older betas had it removed from menu bar

anyone else have it removed before and only now magically reappear only in the beta 6?

80gb system data recently, not sure if it was beta 5 but it feels a bit sluggish on my device. let's see how beta 6 is.

this background blur needs to go:

I don't think that's ever coming back... at least not without some sort of hack/3rd-party utility. I hope I'm wrong because I got used to it and would prefer not to have all the empty/wasted space at the top of my browser window.
The biggest problem is the tab bar, which spoils the whole liquid glass look in addition to no longer looking like any kind of tab that’s connected to the page.

One of the few UI features of Microsoft Edge that I like is its vertical tabs mode which looks and works similar to the Safari sidebar with tab groups, but hides the regular tabs when it’s on. Something along those lines would help give some vertical space back, albeit at the expense of horizontal space.

Still having Airplay issues (mix of Sonos, Marantz, Naim and Apple HomePods) with dropping connections and not finding Airplay devices. Also DropBox do not have a stable release for Mac OS 26 yet. Corrupted desktop wallpaper still an issue (custom photos not the built Apple defaults). Fails to roam on Eero mesh network properly for some reason. Sequoia is fine. This is still a seriously buggy release.

I assume it was a spotlight indexing issue in beta 5 because it's back to normal levels now after it finished indexing on beta 6.
I'm going to risk turning indexing back on and see how it goes. Hopefully the fix is as easy under B6 as it was under B5.

When it works, though, the new Spotlight might be the highlight of the new OS. Now I just need to adjust my mind to use it instead of old workflows.

Random question. Apologies. But I seem to be on the developer beta updates (not sure if that's the right term). Does anyone know how I get off it and onto the public beta updates? I'd prefer to be using the more stable builds.
