One app that's showing up in "app compatibility" for me is JBL Audio. This app is the only way to configure equalizer settings on a JBL speaker I have.

I've already tweeted JBL about this; hopefully they update the app. But it's a bit sad that Apple is basically forcing us to not be able to use certain apps anymore if the developers don't update them. The apps still work FINE, there's no reason to break them on purpose!

They're not forcing you to not use it. They're letting you know that the app could cause issues/slowdowns.

They won't work at all once the API's the app relies on become fully depreciated and removed. This is a warning shot to developers. ( the warning alert, and the feedback from customers who rely on said apps)
 
Just left a review for an app that hasn't been updated since 2014 letting them know it won't work soon. It's an important app too, Blackboard. Every college uses it.

I can finally copy home videos to my phone again. Not sure if this was fixed in 10.3b2 or 10.3b3 since I pretty much had given up with it. Glad to see it fixed though.

It was fixed in beta 2. I was so relieved too. Pissed me off, but it works now, so whatever.
 
The ‘app compatibility’ section is something they should have done immediately, rather than alert dialogs. Apple seems to be getting really serious about these warnings, which may indeed point to a complete removal of the 32-bit libraries very soon.
Well, they are working through it and improving it through betas it seems.

No... future versions of iOS will not allow 32-bit apps to function on modern devices.

I'm glad I kept my iPad 2. It will never be upgraded beyond 9.3.5, and will still run some of my favorite, "older" games and apps that will probably never be updated.

Feels alittle snappier, other than pink icons in today view after restar I cant complain :)
 
I like the new "App Compatibility section. I would have liked to have seen it on the main Settings page right above the app list. Where it is now, is not readily apparent (at least to me).

Please stop with the 'feels snappier' rhetoric. It is old, not funny and at this point, obnoxious.

Can they add a feature that makes my iphone 6 Plus perform as well as it did a few ios 10 releases ago?

Last couple months the phone just lags when a couple things happen at the same time. For example, if talking on phone and an email comes in it just does not respond to input to wake up the screen etc.

I've noticed this with every iOS device I've ever owned...and I've had iPhones and iPads since the originals! I wish I had the ability to look and comprehend the OS code. I feel like Apple must intentionally be doing things behind the scenes to make older generation devices slow down/get more erratic. If anyone could prove that, Apple would be in a crapton of trouble.

But pretty much useless if developers has no intention updating their app.

...and some apps can't be updated because the cost of porting to 64-bit (including dev & QA) is too costly. This is the case with several games from Slitherine (e.g., Battle Academy 1 & 2, Hell, Pike & Shot, and more).

There is ZERO technical reason that Apple has to cut off 32-bit app support. Even Windows still supports 32-bit software! This is nothing more than a ploy by Apple to get people to upgrade their hardware.

I want Apple to cut the nonsense and let their customers continue to use "old" applications.

They probably just dont optimize in older devices. Fact is a ton of folks didnt see any reason to upgrade from iPhone 6, so not optimizing forces people to upgrade to iPhone 8/7s.

I think it is a good thing.

It results in a overall better experience for the users. They are putting the responsibility on the developers, instead of attempting to maintain backwards compatibility when resources could better be put to use to advancing iOS.

It most cases, it really only takes a few hours MAX to rerelease the same app.
 
I guess I am pretty up to date, I only have one app on the list and it does not surprise me. The app still looks like its built for a 4s but its so basic and works I didn't see the need to replace it. I did send a message to the developer but I think it will be ignored and I will just have to delete the app.
 
I'm assuming that this is gonna serve as a test for APFS before it is released for Macs.
