They changed Safari! They now have an option to "Show Separate Tab Bar" which restores the interface to be similar to the version on Big Sur, except it still has Tab Groups and the interface changes color depending on the website. This option can be turned off. They also brought back the refresh button as well. Thank God! Good change!

Dammit they changed Safari tabs back to the old way. I actually liked the combined tab/address system but it's gone now.
I thought I noticed that too. Not really sure what my pref is. Apple did same with Safari in iOS 15 beta 3.

All I want to know is if Universal Control is working.

It's not working for me. There are new settings that seem like the feature is already implemented but it doesn't work for now.

No Advanced button here in Display settings
Do have a iPad with beta3, and logged in onto same iCloud account

I meant no Advanced button in the display settings, on Monterey beta3, and also using iPad with iPad os 15 beta 3, which is needed for this function?

macOS Monterey 12 Beta 3 Release Notes

Overview

The macOS 12 SDK provides support to develop apps for Mac computers running macOS Monterey 12 beta 3. The SDK comes bundled with Xcode 13 beta 3, available from Beta Software Downloads. For information on the compatibility requirements for Xcode 13, see Xcode 13 Beta 2 Release Notes.

AppKit

AirPlay Receiver

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

  • AirPlay Receiver now appears in System Preferences > Sharing as expected. (78170150)

App Store

New Features in iOS & iPadOS 15 beta 3

Known Issues

  • Subscription renewals aren’t automatically pushed to your app through the StoreKit 2 APIs in the App Store sandbox environment. Transaction and renewal information may not be immediately available. (78463355)
  • Purchases made using the Sandbox environment return VerificationResult.unverified(_:). (79053760)
  • When calling latest(for:) on Transaction, or accessing the latestTransactionproperty on a Product value, the system might not return a transaction for the given product identifier. (79399941)
Workaround: For subscription products, use Product.SubscriptionInfo.status to obtain the current subscription status and latest transaction.
  • There is no dismiss button in the refund request window when calling the type method beginRefundRequest(for:in:) or the instance method beginRefundRequest(in:) on Transaction. (78987211)
Workaround: Press the escape key to dismiss the refund request window.

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

Authentication Services

Known Issues

Calendar

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

  • Adding a video call to an event with an existing location no longer removes the previous location. (79402949)
  • Fixed an issue that caused Calendar to quit unexpectedly when adding a FaceTime video call to an existing repeating meeting. (78280294)

Create ML

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

  • You can now use Xcode 13 beta to build your existing macOS app that links against Create ML. (74036054)

Displays Preferences

Known Issues

  • Configuration is available for Universal Control preferences, but feature support is not enabled in this release. (80478623)

Endpoint Security

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

  • Updated the header file to explain this scenario: When initializing a new EndpointSecurity client via es_new_client, a set of executable paths is automatically muted for a subset of AUTH event types to help reduce inadvertent negative impact to end users (for example, panics triggered by watchdogd due to clients not responding to AUTH events quickly enough). The set of muted paths and associated event types are inspectable using es_muted_paths_events. Although unmuting the AUTH events associated with these paths isn’t recommended, it’s possible to do so using es_unmute_path_events. (78405437)

Focus

Known Issues

  • You’re unable to switch to a Focus other than Do Not Disturb using Siri. (78263540)

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

  • Autoreply now works as expected. (77510470)
  • Searching for a location now works. (79098807)
  • Setting Focus status in third party apps is now available. (77000852)

Fonts

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

  • Text now renders as expected in PDF documents. (79370423)

iCloud

Known Issues

  • If network connectivity is interrupted, the system might display an inaccurate alert that iCloud Private Relay is incompatible with the network. (79853379)

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

  • Fixed an issue that caused the network location provided by iCloud Private Relay to websites to be less precise than expected. (77291090)
  • Fixed an issue that caused iCloud Private Relay to fall back to a direct connection if traffic couldn’t be routed privately. (78433904)
  • Opening an Account Recovery Contact or Legacy Contact invitation link from Messages now displays the invitation as expected. (78522143)

Language & Region

Known Issues

  • Certain languages might display unlocalized text. (78476984)
  • Certain languages might exhibit clipped or misaligned layout. (78477103)

Logging

Known Issues

  • For every process crash, macOS generates two crash logs. (76650102)

Mac Catalyst

Known Issues

  • Setting the title color of a UIButton doesn’t work regardless of whether you use baseForegroundColor or titleColorForState:. (76566253)
  • System buttons have a black background color if no color is set. (76910619)
Workaround: Set a color, or if you want the system default color, request a button using the iOS 14 and Mac Catalyst 15 or earlier API: buttonWithType:.

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

macOS Recovery

Known Issues

  • You might be unable to start up from macOS Recovery. (78334511)
Workaround: Make several attempts in succession. Otherwise, see the “If you can’t start up from macOS Recovery” section of About macOS Recovery on Intel-based Mac computers.

Deprecations

Maps

Known Issues

  • Rivers might disappear at certain zoom levels. (79993916)
  • The Bay Bridge might scale incorrectly at high zoom levels. (79217316)
  • Rounded building corners might disappear. (80468151)

Messages

Known Issues

  • Clicking the reply bubble in a Business Chat conversation might produce unexpected results. (76702989)
Workaround: Use Business Chat on iPhone.

Migration Assistant

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

  • Migrating a user from another Mac computer now works correctly when FileVault is enabled, when you choose to replace the local user account. (79150749)

Music

Known Issues

  • You might be unable to play Lossless or Spatial Audio tracks via Siri. (78277808)

Networking

Deprecations

  • Support for cleartext HTTP URL schemes for Proxy Automatic Configuration (PAC) is now deprecated. Use only HTTPS URL schemes for PAC. This affects all PAC configurations, including, but not limited to, configurations set via Settings, System Preferences, profiles, and URLSession APIs such as connectionProxyDictionary and CFNetworkExecuteProxyAutoConfigurationURL(_:_:_:_:). If you configure a cleartext HTTP PAC URL, the system may upgrade it to HTTPS during PAC file loads. Web Proxy Auto-Discovery (WPAD) Protocol via DNS isn’t affected. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Option 252 WPAD may attempt to upgrade cleartext HTTP URLs to HTTPS during PAC file loads. (61981845)

RealityKit

Known Issues

Safari

Known Issues

  • The Safari start page sync requires devices that are on macOS Monterey 12 Beta 3 and iOS 15 Beta 3 or newer. (79385360)
  • Animation glitches might occur when opening and closing the sidebar in Safari. (80441779)
  • With Use Separate Tab Bar enabled, the Reader Available button might appear too close to the edge of the Smart Search field. (80441578)
  • Safari toolbar vibrancy and background color might adversely affect the legibility of tab buttons in the tab bar. (80417925)
  • With Show Separate Tab Bar disabled, opening new tabs might show a Start Page without the open tabs. (80406212)
Workaround: Open a new window or merge all windows from the Window menu to refresh the state.

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

  • Pinned tabs are no longer lost unexpectedly. (78521854, 79081661)

SharePlay

Known Issues

  • SharePlay performance might be affected if a session has more than five participants. (79466576)
  • Notifications received while sharing your display will be visible to other SharePlay participants. (79455578)
Workaround: Enable Do Not Disturb during the SharePlay session.
  • Recipients of screen sharing content might see unexpectedly small windows and limited zoom behavior. (78431516)

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

  • Fixed an issue that caused SharePlay to appear unavailable. (79306972)
  • Fixed an issue that caused media audio volume to be unexpectedly high while speaking during a call. (77856932)
  • If you leave and then rejoin a SharePlay session, you now correctly rejoin at the same point in playback. (79431429)
  • Shared activity now starts correctly, even if the activity metadata is larger than 27 KB. (78776780)

  • AsyncImage in List sometimes cancels image downloads prematurely. (78187465)
  • Providing a binding to an OutlineGroup might require including wrappedValue in the init(_:children:content:) key path parameter, and won’t back-deploy to earlier releases. (77890799)
  • Focusing a view in a newly added List row using FocusState requires deferring the focus state property update to the next time the main runloop runs. (78607356)

Resolved in macOS Monterey 12 beta 3

  • BorderlessButtonMenuStyle and BorderedButtonMenuStyle are now available as static members. (78606888)
  • Fixed an issue that if you created a Text view from an AttributedString that contained a morphology attribute and then interpolated the Text view inside a LocalizedStringKey, the attributes of the AttributedString didn’t affect the displayed text. (76192084)
  • The Alert modifier now correctly displays a passed-in message. (79252107)
  • Drag previews will now return to the correct position when cancelling a drag and drop operation. (78495697)
  • The system now calls the onDismiss closure as expected when you use the sheet modifier on macOS. (71941401)
  • Resolved an issue that caused list rows containing Text to grow unnecessarily after a move or other programmatic update. (70079503)

Known Issues

  • Virtual machines will fail to start a macOS Guest if a memory balloon device is set up. (79943519)
Workaround: Don’t include VZVirtioTraditionalMemoryBalloonDeviceConfiguration in the virtual machine configuration.

Oh, no, old bug seems to be back: Turning on my Airplay network (via Airport Express) for Music playback seems to kill all sound. Had this issue a couple of versions ago and it got fixed, now unfixed.

EDIT: Quitting and restarting Music seems to fix. Fingers crossed.

Look what I found on my iPad M1, when disabling "Handoff" and enabling it again... but still not working, so its something from Apple's side. By the way the MacBook detects that my iPad is around changing the drop menu to advanced button when on and going back to drop menu when the iPad is sleeping.

I prefer the change, but I wish it was thinner. (It looks the same height in the photo, but ignore the bookmarks bar)

My AirPods Max are handing off automatically nicely now with this build on my iMac. Didn't play nicely with b2 for me. AirPods Pro had no problem and everything was happy as far as my iPhone was concerned with auto connects and playing. 🙃

I find it quite amusing that Apple releases a new OS version, and everybody talks about the web browser. It is showing what most people use their computers for. I think Google has a point with the Chromebook line, but they are executing it poorly to this day.

Apple today seeded the third developer beta of macOS Monterey, the newest version of the macOS operating system. The third beta comes nearly three weeks after Apple released the second macOS Monterey beta.

macOS-Monterey-on-MBP-Feature.jpg

Registered developers can download the beta through the Apple Developer Center and once the appropriate profile is installed, betas will be available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences.

As with all new betas, Apple recommends not installing the new macOS update on a primary machine because it is early release software and could have bugs.

macOS Monterey introduces Universal Control, a feature that lets a single mouse, trackpad, and keyboard be used across multiple Mac or iPad devices, plus there's a new AirPlay to Mac feature.

Safari has been redesigned with a new tab bar and support for Tab Groups, and FaceTime has gained spatial audio, a Portrait Mode on M1 Macs, and Voice Isolation for cutting out background noise. There's also a new SharePlay FaceTime feature that lets Apple users watch TV, listen to music, and share their screens with one another.

Shared With You, a separate feature, keeps track of the music, links, podcasts, news, and photos that people are sent in Messages, highlighting it in the relevant apps. Notes has a new Quick Note feature for jotting down thoughts, and collaboration is easier with mentions and an Activity View.

The Shortcuts app from iOS is now available on the Mac, and Focus helps people stay on task by cutting out background distractions. There's an updated Maps app with a whole slew of new features, and with Live Text, Macs can now detect text in photos or provide details on animals, art, landmarks, plants, and more in images.

Mail Privacy Protection hides IP and prevents tracking through invisible pixels, and iCloud Private Relay keeps Safari browsing protected. There are many other new features in macOS Monterey, with a full rundown available in our macOS Monterey roundup.
