I’ve had some nagging issues with Big Sur so far on my iMac, seems to be in my experience one of the worst betas I’ve tried and I’ve been getting them for years and years. Hopefully this update will fix some of these problems as we get closer to primetime or it looks like I might have to a complete clean install which will be annoying considering I’d have to transfer loads of files over.

You will waste your time, a reinstall and importing files and settings will be the same as an Update.

There's so much you can do to try to find the problem without reinstalling, like a hardware test, you might have bad RAM, creating a new user and see if the issues persist, using certain programs to delete caches and the like, performing SMC/PRAM resets and so on.

Unlock with Apple Watch is no longer working for me after installing this build. Turned it off and on, restarted Mac, etc.

IIRC, this was an on again/off again problem during the Catalina beta cycle as well. Oh well, back to using Touch ID for a bit, then.

Have you tried resetting the PRAM? That for me usually clears up a lot of problems.

Not sure why I'm spending a minute to dignify this with an answer, but my angle should have been obvious, which is to state my experience with it, which was exactly as I described.

If you care so much that you're going to start arguing with people about their experience, just go ahead an install it yourself, instead of wasting a bunch of time trying to imagine "literal" percentages of others opinions, imagining there's a consensus, & looking for "angles" like some paranoid nutter looking for a conspiracy in everything. Just do it yourself, takes no time at all, & maybe it'll be great. Or maybe you'll be one of the literal 5%, and revert back, wait a month til apple decides its ready for public beta testing, and do it all over again, bc what version of software you have on your computer that month has absolutely no bearing on anything or anyone in the world and does not matter at all other than satisfying your own curiosity for a day or two. Either do it and summarize your experience, or don't and have nothing to talk about, idc
Ohhh good one Ace!! You are so tough!!

I'm getting the occasional greenness when browsing web-pages - almost like a green screen effect where it then overlays the images.

Seen this before in beta's and been fixed with the next release.

The greenness I'm on about isn't on the screen. It's the Touch Bar itself, the buttons, instead of being dark grey are green instead. I know it will be fixed, I have reported it anyway.

Should Scott Forestall get credit for this incredible icon or Sir Jony Ive? Scott F, right?
Scott is not a designer. But he sure did prefer Skeuomorphism. So I guess he should share credit for it. That said, I overall like iOS 7 better. Not for the battery icon, but for its "highlight content over controls" approach to design.

Consistently since release it’s been hailed as incredibly stable. Most of what I saw was last week when the original commenter is claiming to have issues.
It is incredibly buggy. Have been using betas since 10.0 and this is the buggiest 3 betas yet. It is very much not usable as a daily driver at this stage. I don’t know where you are getting your info, but I am using it daily (because I have to) and it is full of crashes, UI glitches and beach balls. I have filed many bug reports as a result. In fact there are major issues, like not accepting admin password at all, failing to do upgrades, safari constantly crashing, incompatibilities with high refresh displays, etc etc. This build has fixed some issues but do not assume it is so stable. It’s not. This is on a 2018 13” touchbar MBP.

funny thing is that the battery icon's direction on system preference is only different compare to all os ui design. it's a shame.

I have the same issue. I tried to reset everything such as nvprm, smc, and pram. it didn't work. I hope it will be fixed asap.

Anyone is using End Check Point VPN? If yes, is it running fine on MacOS Big Sur?

I use it and have tested it on all the Big Sur Beta's including the latest without issue for version E80.89 however for version E82.50 I have had issues where I lost internal network connectivity with my Drobo NAS but that was the only issue I had with that version all other VPN functions worked

I'm not so sure that this is limited to the VPN client - I'm loosing connection to a NAS I have here randomly, just like I did with Crapalina - could be a networking issue that the latest client for your VPN is triggering, or just could be an OS related issue - whatever it is I just hope that we don't have a year of constant calls from users saying that they are unable to connect to fileserver once this has been launched.

I’m seeing that my VPN is not consistently NAS speedy as it is if I reboot into Catalina.

Soeed test shows pretty much the same speeds in both, but when I’m downloading files, they take longer in Bug Sur than Catalina, when I cancel and reboot into Catalina on the same machine. I went back and forth between the 2, for the same file.

Weird.

Weird audio units behaviour.
There are a few that are not working in logic 10.5.1 on beta 3.
Worked in beta 2.
They are in the components folder, authorized, however are not showing at all in plug-in manager. One is ilok, others are other copy protection, security doesn’t show a problem.
Very weird in that, usually I can just rescan or reinstall and continue.
One is from a company that makes several plugins and only one plug isn’t working.
Reported to both the plugin manufacturers and apple.
Not concerned, just reporting and will see if corrected in a later beta.
Reboot to the backup for this week.
1st for me.

Looks like we won't be seeing the Public Beta as promised for "July". Although there are still 2 days to go, I guess.

From the sound of things, there is a lot of bugs to be ironed out before it's ready for a Public Beta release. It needs to be at least relatively stable.

Is that correct what I have read above too? That Parallels or VMWare Fusion won't work at all with Big Sur Beta? If so that counts me out completely.

Not sure about VMWare Fusion but I know Parallels works. It's just that there is a bug in Beta 3 preventing Parallels from opening. As has been pointed out many times in various places here on macrumors and elsewhere on the net, the workaround is to do the terminal commands

export SYSTEMVERSIONCOMPAT=1

open -a "Parallels Desktop"

I know that works, because that is how I open Parallels in Beta 3.

Maybe it will be fixed in Beta 4.

But of more concern is not being able to run Windows VMs on the new arm macs. Not sure if there will be a workaround for that.

They never really promised, they just stated a date they were aiming for, which was always going to be subject to change if any issues.

No chance they're releasing a first Public Beta on a Thursday or Friday. It'll be after DB4 releases on Tuesday.
