FaceID can handle 2 faces. Let's say I decide to give my child one of those slots so they can play on my phone. Do I really want a 5 year old deciding to install an update? Probably not. Or the other face belongs to my wife. Again, I wouldn't want her to install an update on my phone without my knowledge.

My boys are actually 17 and 22 and have their own devices and I don't let ANYONE else into my phone. But it's a possibility that ought to be considered. Especially with the older TouchID system where you could in theory have 4 other people who could unlock your phone.

The other explanation I've heard is that your passcode is your security. FaceID is a quick and easy way to bypass that security. It's a biometric convenience, not the actual security itself. Which is why you need to enter your passcode after a reboot or when doing something as important as updating the entire OS.

There's some (possibly) lame excuses that may or may not satisfy your curiosity. Honestly, it's a question I've asked myself and I all I could come up with was "extra security". Like asking "Are you sure?" before deleting a file.

It's not for two different faces, it's for alternative appearance. So you're doing it wrong.

Apple is very cagey about what “Alternate Appearance” means. They heard the outcry over being unable to register additional people that was available with TouchID and quietly did something about it.

Nope. Newest beta fixed nothing. Up to 42 and counting.

Nope. I've tried everything but a restore.. which I'm not doing. I guess I'll just never up to date apps. lol.

I wonder if completely signing out and then back in on your phone would help. Sometimes I have had luck with similar issues when I have done that.

Next time you have something clever to say, you should first read the entire post to make sure you don't end up looking stupid. The part you missed: "...I don't let ANYONE else into my phone." So no, I'm not doing it wrong, you just don't read as well as you ought to.

Your scenario was bogus and it's not officially supported by Apple. I don't care how you use your stuff. FaceID wasn't designed to be shared.

The scenario isn't the least bit bogus. It doesn't matter what is or isn't supported by Apple. Some people choose to use the extra fingerprints and extra face for additional users. It's reality.

so after all the fuss about animoji & memoji and emojis, someone came to their senses over there and now we can turn the whole bloody show off via a keyboard toggle. Thank goodness. Granted a couple of the emoji are useful (red dot, green check etc) but it has become so overwhelming that I never wanted to open up that Pandora's box anymore.

The last thing to come out of Pandora’s box was hope.

Have any luck updating your apps? Wondering if this same bug is occurring on the public beta.

Seems like going by the latest in the thread that deals with that type of issue at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/merged-ios-13-app-updates-stuck-on-waiting.2210793/ the issue with app updates not working for some people/devices should be resolved now.

Nope. I tried that as well. It fixed itself at some point yesterday. Everything downloaded.

Yup! I tried, randomly, yesterday and every app downloaded.

Very interesting - thank you for taking the time to answer my question!

I've read (and had) that question so many times I can't believe it never occurred to me to check the security paper before. Thanks for catching me in just the right mood! :)

Isn't this beta 10 days old? Are they waiting until after the Thanksgiving weekend to release?

I'm getting close to trying iOS 13, but waiting for some signs of maturity.

Is 10 days too much in some way? Also, it's a holiday week basically so usually short of something like an emergency there typically wouldn't be releases coming out.

Didn’t the beta come out November 20?Apple has lately been on a weekly cycle. I’m thinking 13.3 is close to release.(but one never knows until it’s out)
