iOS8 legacy support is dearly needed. There are hundreds of millions of iOS devices out there that can't upgrade to iOS8. It is a pity that Apple doesn't offer iOS8 support for these machines. Apple would make a lot more money off of them if these users could stay current. It would be more secure and simpler to offer tech support. It would keep users 'in the fold'. It is very doable with graceful fall backs at the compiler make level for any features the older hardware can't support and that wouldn't affect new iOS devices at all. Makes are already target specific.

Fan of both Android and iOS but with all these issues lately, L has leaped over iOS 8 hands down. Syncing music is the worst...

If you're listening to music and switch to a text, the music stops playing. Bug has been around since 8.2 beta 2

One of the largest and most successful companies in the world is understaffed...oh the irony. Besides that though, I think it may be a matter of finding a much better Chief Executive quality control officer. I think I saw a report after 8.0.1 that the person in that position isn't very good at his job.
Who knows what the cause is, I was merely speculating based on an article I read a few months ago. We shouldn't have to pay a premium price for a sub premium experience. Especially since Apples motto is "It Just Works". Once upon a time that was accurate. In the last couple of years it's been a crap shoot, somewhat like gambling in Las Vegas...

Particularly frustrating and contrary to what we pay for. I never did have an interest in gambling.

Not really. It's easy to hire people, but harder to hire qualified people to get the job done. I think I also heard somewhere that the problems plaguing their maps and icloud divisions are more organisation / political in nature. This isn't something you can throw at money and magically wish the problem away.

Glad I did not update to the iOS 8 version. I had a couple of stupid TV and radio network Apps that require iOS 8 to be installed before it will download; while the same Apps on my iPhone now do not work anymore and those Apps ask me to download the updated Apps; so I just deleted those Apps! LOL! Thanks for the incentive! LMAO!

Nothing like living safely and in the past... ;) LOL!

They should just hire Scott Forstall back ;) At least iOS was stable and slop-free when he was around.

I still can't figure out how I became a Yosemite official Developer beta tester but not an IOS beta tester even though I actually registered for the IOS beta testing from the original iPhone and was approved! LOL

yeah I'm finding the iOS 8 safari browser slower and slower because safari in yosemite keeps getting faster and faster lol. it's a bummer these days trying to surf the weeb on the iPhone. :(

I hope this update finally fixed the shoddy wifi connectivity and unresponsive touch screen issues that have been plaguing my iPhone 6 with iOS 8. Get it together, Apple.

Health App units UK

Any chance they've updated the units of measurement for the UK?

We don't use Kilometres we use Miles
We don't use Kilograms we use Pounds

So for once, Safari actually is snappier? Refreshing to say it for real.

Is Apple Watch essentially dependent on iPhone for most heavy lifting and internet? I guess that leaves out iPod Touch unless in wifi range.

Forstall was gruff like Jobs, having worked with him since NeXT. But that obsessive behavior brought us shewomorphic and a bulletproof iOS in several versions. I still run 6 on my iPhone 4S with no glitches!

Cook is certainly not gruff.

Bulletproof like... IOS 4!!! You jest. That crap almost bricked the 3G and made my 3GS slower than the 6.1.6 I use now. People have very selective memory.

Again, that's a joke. IOS 4 was a horrible horrible mess performance wise.

Oh, right.... The fact reviews for Lollipop are abysmal on many devices... Is truly "a win"...

Most people that complain, do so BECAUSE Apple tries to offer legacy support to Ipad 2 and Iphone 4S users (which possibly they shouldn't!) and you want them to support the 4 and 3GS!!

Supporting those HW would mean having to cripple the OS for current devices. With difference in performance between generations decreasing eventually, updates will probably eventually go at least 5 year back, instead of 3.

Does anyone running this beta use an Airplay speaker? Ever since iOS 8.0 came out Airplay appears to crash and reset when I try to send music to my Airplay speaker. It still crashes with 8.1.2 that I have on both my iPhone 5s and my iPad Air 2.

1. I play music on the music player.
2. I swipe up and launch the Control Center and select AirPlay
3. I then choose the Airplay speaker I want to send the music to.
4. After about 8 seconds the speaker gets unselected and the iPhone gets selected again.
5. On the Control Center I then see that even the music was unselected (it shows blank for what is playing on the music player.
6. If I go back and select the AirPlay Speaker and then start the music it will then work.

I submitted this bug to Apple on bugreporter and they came back asking for logs which I sent them and then they closed my ticket and said it was a known issue.

What makes this tough to troubleshoot is that sometimes it works but most of the time it does not.

If anyone can test this with the new Beta I would appreciate it.

Anyone notice they added units to the health app?

No. Restore from iTunes backup (on my Mac). I just don't get why a clean install is even considered a solution. Shouldn't it "just work"? Clean install or not? Don't remember iOS 6 EVER rebooting on iPad.

Exactly.

Especially with sandboxing and the base OS files being completely reinstalled after a restore from backup in mind, clean installs shouldn't be something you would be advised to settle for.

Without LOTS of manual work to do, thanks to iOS's design it means losing all your app data.

Except iCloud stuff and the like of course, but let's not go there.

It's so disappointing and frustrating everytime a new beta comes out for this version of iOS 8. I am sitting here hoping my mini 2 will eventually feel like 1 year old instead of 2 or 3. Hoping for all these nasty bugs to be squashed. But every time I hear that a new beta is released, NOTHING is fixed except for frivolous issues I have never once experienced.

I love iOS to pieces compared to Android, but watching it spiral deeper and deeper down into this buggy state really makes me sad. 7.1 still had a fair share of bugs and lag issues on my mini 2 (Control Center and Notification Center on lock screen, or over keyboard, etc etc etc) but exiting apps and opening apps, simple things like that, has never been so jumpy and choppy.

And right when it gets there people will start complaining about iOS 9 beta battery life and bugs and resprings.

That's the thing though, by the time iOS 7 became stable and smooth we had iOS 8 demoed at WWDC and then we had the public release only 6 months after iOS 7 became perfect.

It'll be the same this year, we'll put up with the iOS 8 bugs for 6 months and (hopefully) get the smooth and stable build in iOS 8.2 only for us to enjoy it for 6 months before Apple begin pushing the no doubt buggy iOS 9 on us so they can stick up another pie chart with adoption rates to boast about.

What I'm saying is that iOS complaints never end. By the time Apple stabilizes the current version of iOS people are already complaining about the new one.
