I really hope they fix the Wi-Fi issues... :( My Wi-Fi doesn't work anywhere except for my living room and kitchen but that's where the router is... Fingers crossed because I'm downloading it now.:D
I've had horrible WiFi issues on El Cap too, running on a few month old 2015 MBP and it worked perfectly in 10.10.4-5. So unhappy I've been reporting the issue to Apple though

There are definitely some WiFi issues with this new operating system which sucks. Never had WiFi issues before (even throughout Yosemite)

that makes me hestiate to try it out - although i have no problem with yosemite wifi which a lot of people claimed had wifi issues

What've been the USB issues? Haven't noticed any on my end (2015 MBP)
On certain configurations with 10.11.2 beta 1 and maybe beta 2, on an imac 3 of the 4 usb ports would cut out randomly, run at usb 2 speeds and then only one port would work for flash drives or external hard drives. It was unusable. Soon as cloned back to 10.11.1 it was back to normal. So one of the things to focus on according to the release notes of beta 3 was "USB", so maybe they figured it out. I afraid to try it after that last experience.

I had these exact problems with beta 1 & 2. I took a chance and tried beta 3 today. Same issues, on a brand new iMac 27" Retina. Maybe the stores got all these units instead of the devs? Seems like a pretty big problem to miss.

Oh I see, quite strange these bugs that are brought about out of nowhere in recent software Apple releases...

Well, Mail of 10.11.2 beta 3 failed. I moved my mail archives folder from the regular El Capitan HD to the Beta HD and my email archives aren't displayed correctly. I see them jumbled up but not in the order that I have them in.

Tell all of you one thing, I really miss the portability of the mail archives. In the past, I can have the mail archives on all my Macs without problems. It's especially great when I don't have an Internet connection and need to have access to my archives.

Why are thoughtful people installing a beta on production machines? Why?

Those of us who are obsessive about keeping out Macs backed up are free to do this without risking our data. I've been doing this for a long time without issues, except for some compatibility issues with some apps. I have dedicated test Macs, but in the end, I cannot accurately test new versions of OS X unless I install them on a production system. These systems are always my own Macs, and NEVER those that belong to my customers. If I screw something up on my own Macs, I can erase and resinstall, and then restore from backup. Luckily, I've never had to do that.

I'm torn. Should I check to see if they've addressed the long-standing, slug-like performance of SMB for file shares hosted on 2008/2012 servers or should I just go buy a lottery ticket?

Seems my chances are about the same for either.

Anyone else having problems remote accessing (screen shareing) another Mac and/or connecting with WD NAS drives since El Cap (on a local network)? None of these betas seem to resolve it and all was fine under 10.10.

As someone above mentioned, the Screens App (from an iOS device) works fine for screen sharing and remote access, but it's not idea, as I'd prefer to use the native remote access app on the Mac, but the 'Share' option very rarely shows up on Finder.

YES! having just bought a ex2100 to find it doesn't work well I'm annoyed! After extensive internet trawling there seems to be a real issue with SAMBA not working properly particularly from finder. I wonder if this is linked to the BTMM problem as that also goes through finder?

The problem is a lot of people are saying that SAMBA has been poorly performing for ages not just El C.

I never had serious problems with beta versions before.. but 10.11.2 caused some strange crashes and beachballs. Hope this one will fix it. YMMV

Only 10.11.2, the second beta, the first worked fine. Hopefully, they release the public (third) version soon as this update drives my a bit crazy.

This update has wrecked havoc on my iMac. Booting to black screens, safe mode recovery, OS pinwheeled unrecoverable. Had to restore from Time Machine backup. Not sure anything is fixed after 4 hours of restoring. iTunes still won't open. Safari still pinwheels. :(

Spotlight was one of my favourite features in OS X since I switched from Windows to OS X. With yosemite installed, my mac freezes for about 15 seconds after each character I type in Spotlight :(

I didn't fix it for me ... in fact it's worse now. 1 out of 4 of my drives showed up before, now 0 show up.
God, you have to be kidding. . . Are they even aware this is going on 3 betas in? I don't understand how they broke this in the first place. It is probably system dependent as far as who sees the bug, but the notes said users should pay attention to "usb" among other things. I'd love to know exactly what went on there.

Okay so I've tried this, and sadly (very sadly) the problem is still there. Now I'm convinced that this is a bug with the OS. :( But thanks for trying to help me! :)

Seems like a bug to me, sadly I can't offer much more help here.
I had these same issues on Yosemite, horrible experience, I've been on OS X since the beginning, since the first 10.0 beta and Yosemite was by far the most unstable release for me.
El Cap is much better, that is, on my 2012 Mac Mini with 8 GB RAM and an SSD drive, on my 2012 MBP which I bought just 2 months ago (cheaply in Malaysia) with 4 GB RAM and a normal HD it runs like sh..., slow, lots of beachballs, but, wifi does work.

That just showed up in my App Store:

Will I be able to recover to the current version now or still fall back to 10.11.1?

This El Capitan Recovery HD Update 2.0 updates the recovery partition to a 10.11.2 version.

If you have backups you can restore to 10.11.1 or 10.11.2 or any other version you have backed up.

You can also update or downgrade your recovery partition using this method: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/how-to-update-the-recovery-partition.1931536/#post-22133877

Yep. Should have just bought the lottery ticket.

At some point, Apple is just going to have to admit that OS X doesn't actually support SMB.
