How do you know these are even the images being used in the case? I'm sure there is more to this than what is being presented here. I swear, people believe anything a blog tells them...

Well, if these cherry picked images aren't being used, then that only means that Apple's using images of the Galaxy that look even less like an iPhone than the ones on the blogs, which means their case is even more baseless.

Samsung’s copying of Apple is blatant and repeated, and Apple can hardly choose to ignore it. The designs of Samsung’s products are NOT obvious, NOT the only designs they could have used, and would NOT have existed without Apple to copy. A few other tablet makers have managed to make things that don’t imitate the iPad so closely. (Granted, they’re the minority—most have followed Apple just as Google the smartphone makers have. That’s the safe money! But it IS possible to do something new and different.)

You could certainly say Samsung COULD have come up with all these designs by sheer luck. Obviously, though, they did not. Just look at tablets pre-iPad and post-iPad. There was a lot more variety before the iPad was there to mimic! And I can think of plenty of new directions to go in, too.

Who knows what’s a bluff, a negotiating tactic, a warning shot to other copycats, or a real threat. In the end, let’s hope the result of all this is REAL innovation—or at least interesting new designs—from Samsung (and others). Better for consumers and maybe even for Samsung!

And yes, I hope the case is decided on REAL evidence and not on Photoshop. Someone has been stupid with the images for sure. But that’s details, and the bigger picture is that no sane person can think Samsung hasn’t been copying Apple. Does Apple have a legal recourse? I don’t blame them for seeking one.

Lawsuits like these are ridiculous; there are only so many ways you can make a wheel.

lol

On a serious note, Apple's new notification system is just like Android... I don't understand how come some patents are okay to use, others are not... It's BS. Just open up the patent market already!

And Androids notification system was exactly like the jailbroken notifications for iOS...that dude....Apple hired...

I believe the order of that style was some form of Palm had it...then jailbreaking, then android, now ios.

Apple hired both #1 and #2.

Good luck? haha

I think someone on this forum said they are all shaped like a smooth block of soap, so that you drop it and buy a new one. ;)

I've seen this post before and I'm calling BS, they are hand picked images. This weekend I will find other designs pre-iPad, and post it as my counter argument.

Actually they did, in 2006.

To be honest, the Galaxy Ace does resemble the iPhone 4. The difference being the iPhone 4 has a flat bottom.

But the Nexus S is in no way similar to the iPhone.

Android had it before Jailbroken iOS. Its where they got a lot of their inspiration from.

Don't you love how they complete pass over the facts like that and then of course they rate you down because you complete killed there arguments with a few facts.

Yeah, I don't mind the rate down, but if you disagree with my post bring counter points!

More armchair lawyering by the replies here. The vocals here seem to be under the impression that the front of the phone or the home screen layout are the patents in question.

Also, anyone who thinks these phones are "competition" for the iPhone must not have actually tried these phones.

And Android had it before WebOS. The Pre was released about 6 months after the first Android phone. Android was the first with the swipe down notification system.

WebOS's notification at least differed from Android in how it showed the notifications when they popped up (it was quite nice actually, it's a shame WebOS is now history), but the iOS notification is a complete rip of Android and WebOS.

the crackpipe... put it down

To me, that image (of the Samsung vs iPhone 3GS) looks like it has been intentionally angled outwards (of the phone facing towards you) from the top so that the height can be seen as the same as the iPhone’s. The iPhone, on the other hand, appears to remain standing up completely straight.

Apple will lose this case and make themselves look like complete *******s in the process. Apple never should of taken it this far but Steve Jobs is not in his right mind. The cancer is obviously eating away at his sanity.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_10 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8E600 Safari/6533.18.5)

Apple needs to slow down with the lawsuits. Especially considering that sanding has made so many of the vital internal parts for apple. Even trickles down to their MAC line. I bet if you open up your MB or MBP, you will see that your RAM is samsung, on the 3 different apple laptops I've had, all use samsung for the RAM.
