Apple Seemingly Discontinuing Vision Pro Travel Case Around the World

A huge white case that gets dirty just by looking at it. Hopefully Apple comes out with something better.
So far my $20 Eucarlos case remains as my favorite.

I like the look of it and using it as a headphone case. The small pouch is neat too.

Looks cool but its stupid. Having to put the headset on to change temperature lol. Thats why VR is a dead end.

It’s meant to be used if you happen to be wearing a headset and just want to turn the cooling on quickly, or just to keep an eye on an indoor temperature, like an interactive widget.

My only experience was doing a demo while waiting for my iPhone to be fixed, but I thought it was really cool and truly (for lack of a better word) immersive in a way I’d never experienced before. At the same time, I was noticing the weight even after 20 minutes, and I was never going to cough up $3.5K to own one. To me, it might’ve been worth it if the price came down to, say, comparable to a well-spec’ed Mac then I might have succumbed.

The new headband makes a gigantic difference, I can easily wear it for 8+ hours with minimal to no discomfort after the first few days.

for those who bought one, the price wasn't the problem, it's the horrible comfort. I think this product line could've lived if it wasn't so painful to use. I tried a bunch of 1st and 3rd party solutions and never found anything to make it enjoyable.

Also for me the primary use case is just a portable display. If apple could produce just the display portion, without a M5 and a battery and everything, just driven over Thunderbolt from a MacBook, they'd have a winning product on their hands.

Uh this article is about the case specifically. That being said the new headband + a 3rd party forehead band + removing the light seal is a winning combo for me. It just feels like I am wearing thick glasses when I put it on now.

In my view, distilling this down to just "$3500 is simply impossibly too much money" is an oversimplification. The larger problem is that there's not a compelling use case that justifies the very high price. I'm in the camp that has the disposable income to afford this, and I bought one ~6 months after launch with the full expectation that I would convince myself it was worth keeping.

Ultimately, it's just not there. I have a Quest 3, and while the quality on the VP was far better, it's not nearly better enough to be worth 7x the price. The VP is also way more uncomfortable and while I can routinely wear the Quest 3 for a multi hour movie or show, the heavy VP gets very uncomfortable far sooner than that. I wound up returning it, and I'm more or less the type of customer that this is aimed at.

I bought and returned the vision pro twice. The M5 version with the new headband was enough of an upgrade for me to keep it. The resolution for passthrough is better, it doesn't overheat like the M2, the comfort is there now and the virtual mac display makes it a killer work device especially with the light seal off, and at night when I lay in bed and my wife is watching stuff on her phone it makes a great movie/show/youtube/news watcher.

That's an unfortunate but expected outcome. Great technology that could have matured into a useful product, but the product was completely mispriced.

Again this article is about the case, are you people even reading it? The case is discontinued due to a chemical issue in the material and the case is grossly overpriced and gets dirty if you breath on it.

The point is you put on your VR headset and you can do everything. Thats like saying its stupid to have to pull out your phone to change the temperate, the point is the connivence you can do so WHILE you are using the said device.

I absolutely cannot stand head straps that extend across over the top of your head, it ensures you can't use the device unless you just rolled out of bed. I style my hair, and any type of strap like this simply doesn't function for me. I actually even bought the original Apple solo headband and 3D printed some adapters so that I can use it with my Quest 3, which also came with the junky overhead type of band.

You can have a similar experience on every one of these items except for the vision pro, which is the only one that can provide a truly unique experience. Looking at these prices, how is the vision pro “over priced”? I just don’t understand how that conclusion is made. Even just using it as a personal cinema is worth it because it’s better than my 85” Sony TV which I also spent $3,500 on.

And people really think like “well if they could get it to like $1,500 it would be worth it”, like really? You think it should be priced slightly above the base price of a phone? Just seems a little ludicrous to think that.

And why do people talk about not living alone so they don’t want it like that matters? Do people really only watch tv with other people? Like I watch plenty of shows/movies with my wife, but we also have our own shows we watch without each other too.

The AVP travel case is one of my favourite Apple products of all time. I just love the design of it.
