Apple Sells Out of Initial iPhone 4 Shipment

Following in AT&T's footsteps, Apple has sold out of the initial allotment of iPhone 4s for launch day. The Apple online store now lists July 2nd as the earliest ship date that you can receive an iPhone 4.

Stores may still have stock on launch day for walk-in traffic, but it seems the allotment for pre-orders has been filled. The iPhone 4 will launch on June 24th, 2010.

Bummer for those who were having technical troubles and couldn't order one early this morning. I couldn't get Apple's site working at all to pre-order. Would keep timing out. Bet this is going to be like the iPad or worse where there's not sufficient stock until two months after it's launch. So probably late August before you can walk into any Apple Store and pick one up without a reservation or pre-order.
 
wow, that is impressive. One can only guess how many iPhones they had set aside for preorders. Even more impressive this is only BLACK...
 
it took me 3 weeks to get iPhone 3GS last June/July.

so i will make the bet that if you didnt preorder an iPhone 4 and you dont want to camp overnight...you probably aren't getting one till second week of July or later.
 
Expected that after this morning's craziness... I wonder how many were available for pre-order total...
 
Do we have any idea of how large this initial shipment was? I mean, just how fast are these things selling?
 
I tried all ****ing morning to preorder, but could not. Finally around 5PM today I put in an in store pickup request. I got the confirmation page, but i never got a confirmation email. I decided to try and preorder one about an hour ago and the preorder page said 6/24 ship date.

I got into checkout and it still said 6/24.

After i submitted the order the page then stated 7/2.

At no point during the order process was 7/2 mentioned. its only after i hit submit order, that i saw it. I cant even call apple support.

The order status page on apple.com won't load so i have no idea whats up with my delivery preorder or my in store pickup.

WTF?
 
Can't wait to see some numbers on how many got pre-ordered. This is really impressive. People must really want their FaceTime Chat.

Based on history, I'll bet the initial shipment was somewhere between 500,000 and 1,000,000 units, probably closer to a million. Wouldn't be surprised if Apple sells 4 million units of iPhone 4 by the end of the year. Time to buy more Apple stock!

Apparently you had to clear your internet cache to see the new date.
 
Preorder at Best Buy while you still can

All customers should preorder at Best Buy while you still can. I preordered mine at Apple and at Best Buy. Apple doesn't require a deposit up front but Best Buy does ($50).
 
I reserved it at an apple store with the apple store app around noon, and received a conformation email about it. It'll still be there on the 24th, right? I'm leaving for england the next day...

Pretty disappointed in both AT&T and Apple. I tried all day but couldn't complete the order. Given the response, I think I'll just sit this one out for a couple weeks.
 
in-store pickup here...was the only way to complete a transaction considering att's awful servers. guess i'll get to the ala moana store at 3-ish. was first in chandler last june for the 3gs and i think i got there around 5. i imagine there will be overnighters at the ala moana store, though...
 
Excellent!

Great news. Glad to see sales going well, I just wish the white model was available for orders. I guess the goods news is that quality issues will be worked out by the time I get my order in.:D
 
Pre-orders

ATT and apple stores still have a sh** load. i went to apple store last year for 3GS and was like the 80th person and they said they still had hundreds in stock.
 
Unfortunately when I started my order about 45 minutes ago it said ships June 24.... by the time I got done it changed to July 2 and I did not pay attention and ordered it anyway. Right now it is not canceling my order when I go to order status, states site is in maintenance. I had two reserved under two different accounts to pick up iDay so I would just rather do that.

i waited like all night eastern time to order, at 4AM there were people reporting they ordered but i got constant errors, then at 6AM i finally just gave up one apple.com and did the upgrade to the iPhone 4 32GB modem on att.com instead
 
Bloody hell, I was only able to get one reserved. Tryed ohhh more times then I'm willing to admit. Now a member of my family has to wait?? Or maybe stand in line because AT&T can't do shut. Great service guys. Maybe idk you should have prepared.

One order- 32gb all set ( email says $699?!?)
2nd order- fail fail fail, wait in line?? How am I supposed to wait in two lines (reserve line and normal like they did with the 3GS ??!!)
 
Dang it. I was trying all day to get my order in between working, and life in general lol.

I finally was able to get it just now. Ships July 2. Maybe we'll get lucky and it will come earlier?

If not, no biggie. Would been nice though. I'm not waiting in any stupid lines, thats for damn sure.

ios4 and my 3gs will have to tide me over til then.

Cant wait to see the sales figures!
