Based on history, I'll bet the initial shipment was somewhere between 500,000 and 1,000,000 units, probably closer to a million. Wouldn't be surprised if Apple sells 4 million units of iPhone 4 by the end of the year. Time to buy more Apple stock!

I won't be surprised if they sell 8 million by the end of calendar year, world wide.

Do we have any idea of how large this initial shipment was? I mean, just how fast are these things selling?

Like 20 or 25.

But seriously.... people uses the Black Berrys because of the pin and THAT is actually what I need to run in my iPhone.

frustrating day

This has been a thoroughly frustrating day trying to get a new iphone. How many times can an AT&T server crash? Oh well.

Guess I'll get one whenever Apple decides to ship it (NOT JUNE AS PROMISED).

I'm impressed none of the previous iPhones sold-out like this with maybe the exception of specific models (larger capacity mostly) in high traffic areas NY and LA. Should be crazy.

I tried getting my preorder placed on the Apple site for about two hours first thing this morning with no luck, so I gave up until lunchtime. Even then my attempts were fruitless. I kept trying off and on sporadically for the rest of the day, and finally had success about 8:00 PM tonight.

I ordered a 32GB model for home delivery and have received my email confirming a delivery date of June 24. Guess I got through just in time.

I checked fairly early today (9 AM Pacific) and it seems like the pre-orders were going smoothly. Although, I didn't go all the way through the purchasing process. I'm waiting for the white one (easier to keep clean). Hopefully if I check once daily that'll be good enough to get one locked down. :) I wish I knew that Best Buy was taking orders for white ones from 1PM-4PM today!

July 2nd is pretty good

I can't understand why the fretting now. I was one of the silly ones that stayed up all night trying to pre-order, simply because I hate lines. I finally got in through AT&T in the morning.
I want the new phone, but I don't really need it the day of the launch. I just didn't want to rely on walk-in supplies at the stores. To me, getting it a week later than launch (July 2nd) is pretty good. Go get one!

Bloody hell, I was only able to get one reserved. Tryed ohhh more times then I'm willing to admit. Now a member of my family has to wait?? Or maybe stand in line because AT&T can't do shut. Great service guys. Maybe idk you should have prepared.

One order- 32gb all set ( email says $699?!?)
2nd order- fail fail fail, wait in line?? How am I supposed to wait in two lines (reserve line and normal like they did with the 3GS ??!!)

My god!! What is wrong with you??

Frustration

Nice one Apple and AT&T. I tried no less then 10-15 times to pre-order today and their site wasn't working and when I finally get it to work, I have to wait till July 2nd! And they could not reserve one for in store pickup in my area. Do we know what happened today and why the shopping cart was down?

Did something similar happen with the 3GS last year? Or did it take longer for the initial 3GS shipment and reservations to sell out?

If the iPhone 4 launch is this big, I may wait until the weekend to activate my iPhone 4 considering AT&T's activation servers may go nuclear from all the demand!

Man, I got in just in time. Less than an hour ago, I ordered two, both delivered on the 24th.

Why no white iPhones at all? It's not like there was limited stock of the white iPhones.....there are none... why?

Double FAIL

I really think Apple is just as much to blame as AT&T. I had more problems with Apple's site (still can't check my order status and I haven't gotten confirmation email) than I did with AT&T. Why not wait one more week until you have more units to launch...didn't the iPad teach you anything? I understand supply and demand and love Apple products, but if they don't learn from this they never will. Maybe the next big launch we should all wait? Yeah right :)

Seeing the factory(ies?) assembling the iPad and iPhones are probably running at capacity right now, what do you expect them to do?

My SIM card is no longer locking in my phone so I would really like to replace it on the 24th. My wife's phone is working (acting a bit flaky) but can go longer. Need advice on two points

I was able to order one for home delivery around noon with AT&T but it was for my wife's number. When it arrives can I use it for my phone number instead?

If I want to try first come first served, how early should I plan on getting to the store on the 24th?

Thanks for any feedback!

Am I the only one who went to Radioshack to do this? I was fifth on the list and they are just giving out the walk-in stock in the order that they were"pre-ordered." Hopefully if the hints at separate walk-in stock are true I should have no trouble getting my iPhone 4 on launch day without crowds or lines.

Plus, I can trade in my 3gs and effectively get my upgrade for free (using a family member's upgrade) per their trade-in program.

Something to consider for those having issues, hopefully it works out like I expect.

Smoothly!? I must have tried more than 100 times starting at 5:30AM Pacific and didn't get an order through until around 4PM

online was taking years so scratched that.
went to apple in store reserve took less than 5 minutes
sometimes it pays to go into the store

Just got around to ordering. July 6-8 for me. No biggie...on vacation on the 24th and couldn't get it then anyway.

The way I see it, the activation nightmare on the 24th should be a distant memory by then.

If you have it reserved I would rather go later in the day once things cool down... based on experience from buying every iPhone model...good luck!
