July 2nd is pretty good. That's like 1 week later...

I wonder if this will delay the other stages of international launch from July through September. Hope not.

The whole white availability issue is perplexing and I cannot believe Apple hasn't released a statement as to what is going on. I think I'll just wait until after summer. When I got my 3GS last September it was pain-free as ever. I've already dealt with the activating issues from iPhone 1, not doing it again.

...

Stores may still have stock on launch day for walk-in traffic, but it seems the allotment for pre-orders has been filled. The iPhone 4 will launch on June 24th, 2010.

...

...[Add] But the new handset won't be usable until the 25th.

(due to activation issues)

Based on history, I'll bet the initial shipment was somewhere between 500,000 and 1,000,000 units, probably closer to a million. Wouldn't be surprised if Apple sells 4 million units of iPhone 4 by the end of the year. Time to buy more Apple stock!

Apple will most likely sell 4 million in the next month. Last quarter they sold 8.75 million units. They could be on track to sell 20 million units by the end of the year once the international roll-out is complete.

Man this sucks. I tried all day - on my iPhone Apple Store Apple, on all these different computers - no bueno...and now I can't even get it! I don't want to wait in line on my birthday, I wanted to wake up and have it on my doorsteps =(

I actually feel a little guilty ... okay, wrong word, maybe sad that some tried for so long to get it when it only took me an hour (6a-7a) to finish checking out on Apple's site. I have a friend who tried from 3a to 4p and finally got one and that was only when he used a special at&t business specialist just for his place work. Honestly, that's just pathetic for at&t and Apple when this is the FOURTH LAUNCH!

phew

Finally got over the technical problems a few hours ago. Just made the cut...

Why no white iPhones at all? It's not like there was limited stock of the white iPhones.....there are none... why?

I'm STILL waiting on Apple's half assed explanation of this. Could they not have said something, i don't know, a day before pre-orders started? They HAD to know. It's like they don't even give a **** that they're inconveniencing people. Too bad i'm stuck with AT&T and AT&T doesn't have a decent Android phone or i'd give up and just get one of those.

I sat back and watched the chaos today and said "I'm gonna pre-order in the afternoon". I dont want server chaos to mess up my order."

So I finally get to ordering from Apple 10 min ago and the date literally changed from June 24 to July 2 in the middle of my order.

But it changed further from July 2 to "July 6-8" for delivery.

I never thought in my wildest dreams they would sell it out by 1PM. This is crazy.

Why are they charging me $58 in tax? My total came to $257.40. I read about the "charging tax on the full price of $599". That's BS. (Yah I'm in Cali).
Did the ATT site also charge that tax amount? Or just Apple?

Before pulling the trigger, I try the ATT site and they are DOWN and would not let me order. But I see they are trying to charge me the $18 upgrade fee, while Apple is not. At the same time, ATT told me via txt msg that they are waiving the 18 fee. Man... trying to screw me no matter which way I turn.

At least I wont be involved in the activation chaos of the 24th. I remember last time people were 1/2 way activated and ended up with NO working phone for days. But I will be jealous as many of my friends made the June 24 date.

Suggestion to Apple:

Next huge release, roll out pre-order by State, with an allotment for each state.

Monday: Cali
Tuesday: Ny
Wed: TX
Thurs: All other states.

With the allotment per state, everyone will have their fair shot at getting one on release day, AND the systems will NOT CRASH like crazy.
It will also save you the IT costs of trying to handle 20X the traffic for just 1 day. It's not worth the costs.

And another suggestion: On launch day, remove the flash and images and make your sites text only, like in "911" mode so they load fast.

My god!! What is wrong with you??

what do you mean whats wrong with me? I wake up and try on my computer, for an hour, then try on my phone, take a 3 mile walk.. try three times (one each mile), and then try on a computer again, and on the phone ( this time i got through for one line!!), tried the rest of the day and not once did it work.

Why did I have to do this??? because ATT did not prepare well, apple should have taken calls still to help stop people trying online (like me)

Seeing the factory(ies?) assembling the iPad and iPhones are probably running at capacity right now, what do you expect them to do?

Get their crap together I guess. I'm not outraged or anything, just seems like this could've been predicted/avoided. I think most people would've rather Apple announce a July 1st launch, pre-order June 24th for them to have that many more phones instead of this bottleneck. Just my opinion...of course I tried all day to get mine and finally did, so I can't complain too much.

I'd bet a *lot* more. Projections are for Apple to sell 40-45 million iPhones this year, and the year is only half over.

I'm glad I bought all the AAPL stock I could when it was at $13 :)

Honestly the people that kept trying after hours and hours and hours have no reason to complain about not getting a pre order in, i mean i woke up at 5 AM Est, tried for 3 hours, took a break came back at around 10 tried for another hour or two then said screw it drove an hour to the closest AT&T store and just ordered it in the store for a home delivery, they took maybe 10 min to complete me order

so honestly people could have jut drove to a store and saved alot of time and frustration with the websites

I tried getting my preorder placed on the Apple site for about two hours first thing this morning with no luck, so I gave up until lunchtime. Even then my attempts were fruitless. I kept trying off and on sporadically for the rest of the day, and finally had success about 8:00 PM tonight.

I ordered a 32GB model for home delivery and have received my email confirming a delivery date of June 24. Guess I got through just in time.

Was the email an order acknowledgement or confirmation? I got mine in around 5pm CST and haven't received a confirmation.

Bloody hell, I was only able to get one reserved. Tryed ohhh more times then I'm willing to admit. Now a member of my family has to wait?? Or maybe stand in line because AT&T can't do shut. Great service guys. Maybe idk you should have prepared.

One order- 32gb all set ( email says $699?!?)
2nd order- fail fail fail, wait in line?? How am I supposed to wait in two lines (reserve line and normal like they did with the 3GS ??!!)

AT&T doesn't deserve all the hate they are getting over this... Last time I checked the apple site crapped out too. They were just too many people trying to order. I knew demand would be huge, but selling out all the pre-orders before 24 hours, no one expected something like this! Apple should have made more iphones!!!

By the end of the year every damn american will probably own an iphone!!!

Quick question- if anyone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.

I can't upgrade from my 3G until after June 30 when I get paid. However, I want to reserve my iPhone 4 ASAP because, like a previous poster, I'm having SIM issues and my current 3G is barely usable. The July 2 ship date fits my time frame perfectly- but my question is, if I reserve an iPhone 4 for in store pick up, will Apple charge my card in any way or place any holds against my card?

In other words, do I need to have enough money in the bank to cover my full iPhone purchase when I go to reserve an iPhone for In-Store Pick Up? Thanks!!

Thank goodness! I was scheduled to work at 5am this morning... Pre-orders started at midnight... I had to choose... pre-order or sleep for work. I chose pre-order... and I could not get the Apple site to work. I had to go through Apple because I have a gift card. So I was able to reserve one... but I went to work on only 2 hours sleep. Fast forward to 2pm when I got home... my pre-order went through fairly easy. Delivers on June 24th. So now I don't need my reservation at the Apple store.

Did something similar happen with the 3GS last year? Or did it take longer for the initial 3GS shipment and reservations to sell out?

If the iPhone 4 launch is this big, I may wait until the weekend to activate my iPhone 4 considering AT&T's activation servers may go nuclear from all the demand!

longer i think,at least the servers were less over whelmed. I ordered mine last year, with one try. this year 1 out of 2 with over 50 trys

I am Really pissed at Apple now. I tried all freaking day from 8am to 5 pm and still trying to order. It's not going through, and no I don't want an iPhone in mid July. I was online at 8am with my cash (ok debit card), and people who just happened to get lucky at 8 pm are getting a phone on launch day instead. Apple is going to hear about this.
