Have they ever done this before? I get emails from Apple but I’ve never received a push notification before. Certainly not if I haven’t bought anything. And this messaging is bad. The way it’s worded kind of makes it looks like you ordered something or something was reserved on your behalf. It should say you’re eligible for a new iPhone not your new iPhone is ready.

I don’t put much stock in supply chain rumors but actions like this and the trade-in promotion on the front page of apple.com plus carriers like Sprint and T-Mobile offering the XR for free do make me wonder if sales aren’t where Apple were expecting them to be. Perhaps that Bloomberg story was accurate.

According to AppleInsider, "the promotion specifically targets iPhone Upgrade Program customers," so it's probably just sent to people who are eligible to upgrade.

Ah ok. Now I remember getting something before the XS went on sale but it was an email. This is curious because it’s happening after both phones have been on sale for a while.
Maybe it's people who ordered iPhone X last year though the upgrade program, and it's now a year (12 payments) since that was released so they are eligible? Not really sure, just guess.

So this was Apple’s website a few days ago and now what the US site is showing today. I don’t remember Apple ever doing anything like this on the front page of its website. They obviously want people to see $449 next to XR and $699 next to XS. This makes me think that Bloomberg story was probably pretty accurate.

Looks like Apple is pushing the XR in the App Store too.

Pretty sleezy and desperate

And against apple’s own App Store terms to not spam users

Apple’s luster is corroding. Someone give that Tim Cook the boot already.

As if people aren’t aware their multiple year old iPhone isn’t the latest. And as if this reminder will move units.

Desperate Apple.
I will never buy a notch phone. Bought myself a iPhone 8 plus couple weeks ago.

I've never seen desperation from lack of sales of an Apple product come to the surface so abruptly. I hope this means customers have been collectively taking a stand against the new pricing strategy, as older iPhones (6s, 7, 8) continue to work fine for a lot of people.

Sounds like people have mentioned it happening before as well.

I'm not just referring to the notifications (which only seem to apply to those already in the iPhone Upgrade Program), but also the substituting of trade-in prices for the actual prices on the Apple homepage.

View attachment 809456 It’s amusing to see so much outrage at Apple marketing their phones on this page because right now for me there is an ad at the top saying I can get a free 50” Samsung TV if I buy a Samsung phone.

It irritates me that Apple pushed a message to my iMessage account attempting to influence me. I see that very differently than viewing displayed adds on my home screen. Apple preaches individuals privacy. These types of push notifications are hypocritical. :apple:
