I've never seen desperation from lack of sales of an Apple product come to the surface so abruptly. I hope this means customers have been collectively taking a stand against the new pricing strategy, as older iPhones (6s, 7, 8) continue to work fine for a lot of people.

I'm not sure apple is as desperate as you may believe they are.

Apple is providing the following guidance for its fiscal 2019 first quarter:
  • revenue between $89 billion and $93 billion
  • gross margin between 38 percent and 38.5 percent
  • operating expenses between $8.7 billion and $8.8 billion
  • other income/(expense) of $300 million
  • tax rate of approximately 16.5 percent before discrete items

Wow how bad are the sales this year?

They are not that bad. Apple will sell plenty during the holiday season. I drove by the Apple store yesterday and they were packed!

Just a bunch of disgruntled members here enjoying dogging Apple out because they do not like the notch, cost, color, size and the fact you can not see a battery percentage without a short downward swipe. Pretty typical, it is always the same people.

Yeah I’m surprised how many are brushing this off as nothing out of the ordinary. I don’t remember Apple doing anything like this last year. And I don’t remember ever seeing big bold headlines including prices on Apple’s homepage (not online store). iPhone sales have been flat for a while now. Smartphones are good enough and people don’t see reasons to upgrade. To compensate Apple is increasing prices so at least they can show revenue/asp increases. But eventually people are going to balk at the price increases and maybe this is the year it’s happening.

It is easy for me to “brush this off” as I have had no notifications or ads pushed to my phone. I suggest you just delete and move on.

From some members here they would make you think they are in the toilet. Don’t believe it.

I have never owned an iPhone and fail to see what's the big deal and fuss is all about. Shocker, company who sells products tries to sell their customers for an upgrade. While iPhone sales may not be what Apple has been used to in the past, you try and nudge your loyal customers into thinking about possibly upgrading. Again, i'm the polar opposite of an Apple Fanboy, but I fail to see anything wrong that Apple is doing here. They are operating a business and that means push your products to those who are willing to buy it.

Likely not as bad as people think but I hope they are poor then prices will drop

Why would they drop when apple has older iPhones at lower price points. Like the baker selling day old bread.

"Do as I say, not as I do"

Apple doesn't allow devs to push ads as notifications yet they did it.

Because they need to sell their flagships. That’s a bigger focus than the lower rates phones
