It shows up in icloud.com for me on the "home screen", but when I click it it displays "Coming soon: Pages/Numbers/Keynote for iCloud Beta. Create and edit beautiful presentations/spreadsheets/documents right in your browser on Mac or PC. There is a blue button marked "Get Pages" underneath the message. If I click that, it opens the Mac App Store page for the respective app.

When your account has access, the iWork icon will be replaced with 3 icons for the the individual iWork apps.

got one last night as well. maybe because i was trying to get into the beta over the last few weeks. or they know i've been using the current web version of icloud.

looks awesome so far

Numbers failed my test. Download this Excel spreadsheet (for calculating extra payments on a Mortgage). Drag it into Numbers and attempt to open it. I get "This spreadsheet cannot be opened, try again later".

Is there a way to submit this as a bug report/feedback to Apple?

Looks like only for the selected few, apple only wants to buy from their store, wanted each $9.99. Not in my life time.
It reminds me of buying an mac book air last year, was eligible for update for ML
the way they treated the customer was real lousy. Looks like the legit eligible ones were begging their free upgrade to come by, what a shame.
It does not hurt me, all I can do is not upgrading to the new osx and do nothing with it with their product.

why would anyone do this in the first place since there are so many online calculators?

Wow a screenshot of Windows from Apple and it's an up to date version? I remember they used to use screens of XP well into Windows 7's release.

What I'm more surprised over is the fact that they are using Internet Explorer... haha

I had access as of this morning, having never bought iWork since...geez, '04? Quite the pleasant surprise! Now if it'd only import my iaWriter documents into Pages...

It seems that you have to have a developer account to test the beta.

It looks quite simple by far, some basic typographic features. No multi-language support yet. No OpenType features.

this is pretty awesome. at first wasn't sure what the big deal was (apparently didn't read up on it) but it's nice to have an icloud version of google docs. main thing missing is collaborative work.

One serious flaw is that all the Mac features are not supported so if you open a Mac iWork document in the on-line version you get asked if you want to make a copy with the format features removed. You click "yes" and go. But now how to save your edits back to the "real" document? For this to work all version must be 100% identical.

The on-line version can't have every font you own on the Mac either. So if you open a document using the online editor and it uses some font that is not on-line it should offer a kind of substitution

If the final version on iCloud is as you describe, this is a deal breaker for me then. Lack of feature parity, and inadequate treatment of missing features / fonts / etc. on the iOS side, is the main reason I don't use iWork on my iPhone, and it has been a major factor in my not buying an iPad yet.

It sounds like the web version is basically going to be like the iOS version — if you create a document on iOS or the Web, you will be able to use it on the Mac version without a problem. If you create it on the Mac and try to edit it online or on iOS, your mileage will vary.

I create or edit dozens of new Pages documents and a couple Keynote presentations in a given week. Some of them rely on very specific layouts and spacing. Even with using standard fonts, sometimes in my very limited testing, it just didn't work right — either errors about compatibility, or it not showing up correctly even without an error. I don't have the time or inclination to try to "fix" what wasn't broken before.

This was about a year and a half ago, but since no major update has been issued and now incremental releases IIRC haven't said anything about addressing such issues, and based on comments I see from time to time (including on this thread), I assume it's still the case for iOS. I am still eager though to try out the beta on iCloud and see what happens.

I realize it is quite a feat to get this all working in a browser, but they've had years to work on the iOS side and presumably have been working on the iCloud version for some time now. If there can't be feature parity, there has to be better treatment of problems and incompatibilities when they arise on iOS and iCloud. If it's a programming hurdle to overcome, I hope they're able to do so. But hopefully they are not leaving out features deliberately to encourage people to purchase the more feature-rich Mac version.

I only use Word & PowerPoint when I have to, and haven't used Google docs for document creation. I am hopeful that the promised new version of iWork will include improvements not only on the Mac side, but also in iOS, coupled with seamless integration with iCloud. This would make it a lot less likely that I or the people I work with would need to use Office. Shouldn't this be at least part of Apple's goal? Once this is done, then maybe we can finally get (back) collaborative features.

I'd imagine they wouldn't have much choice, seeing as they stopped development for Safari for Windows. If they plugged any other browser in the screenshot they'd probably be accused of advertising or something.

Yes, there is a plethora of simple "mortgage calculators" online, but this particular spreadsheet helps me track the effect of adding extra payments. It's a great motivational tool.

Point is, Numbers can't open that particular Excel spreadsheet.

While this does not address your import issue, Numbers includes a built in Mortgage Calculator template. No need to add one.

I'm pretty sure iWork for iCloud is only for Mac...iWork isn't great for iPad or iPhone either way.

Thank you. I reread the email last night and it does say from the browser on a Mac or PC. Guess I ned to brush up on my reading skills ;)

iOS 6. You need to set up for iCloud.

I did try to set up iCloud in iOS safari but it wouldn't work. Are u using the iOS safari of iWork's or the apps? The iOS app and OS X browser are all tied together so using the app on iOS is fine for me. I much prefer office anyway. Just curious of how it was supposed to work in the iOS browser.

Thanks

Yes, I'm on Mac, no access through iOS, but the ones that I think will be free are the iOS ones, that way, people will try them out and be encouraged to buy the desktop version.

I figure the opposite. Give folks the free browser version (and avoid competeing against MS office for mac) and make them pay for the iOS app version (no MS presence yet).

Thanks again for the info...

Safari on the Mac gets you to the iCloud website. You need iwork apps on your iOS device and enable your device to iCloud. iOS safari will not get you to iCloud website.

My first document gave me that message. I tried it a second time and it worked. Give it another shot, perhaps.

Perhaps it's needless to point out, but what's on iCloud isn't the final version. But I do hope they solve some of the things you mention, and I'm sure some of them won't be.

everyone's calculator does extra payments and full amortization schedule

that's why i don't make any extra payments on my mortgage

i seriously doubt you can have feature parity in an app that runs on an Intel CPU computer with 4GB or more of RAM and a device with an ARM CPU and 1GB of RAM

i didn't get an invitation, just logged into icloud and they showed up.

Didn't seem to like some of the stuff in the word docs i tried to import but hopefully that'll be fixed before official release.
