It looks like Apple really did make a mess of things here. It's a shame that they rushed the release and ended up botching things. My mail hasn't been affected but I don't have an iPhone so not much has changed.

I hope Apple can slow things down just enough to release completed products. Waiting a little bit longer is easier than dealing with software that is buggy and slow, at that point people just get pissed off because it reduces productivity they already had.

I figure I can wait for iPhone 3.0 at this point, everything should be fixed by then, I'm hoping. I really like the idea though, of having a mini mac in my hands at all times.

Yeah, I'm pretty pissed that my e-mail hasn't been working for the past two days. I need to get in contact with my counselors at school in order to rearrange my schedule and it's really making me mad.
:mad::mad::mad:

Pardon me if I appear a bit "dated" with my notions of "contact" - but haven't you got a telephone? another email account? a pair of legs or a set of wheels to walk or drive on down to see the counselors? a neighbor, friend or relative with any of the aforementioned?

Don't blame Apple for your lack of resourcefulness. Sounds like this one is your deal. And if you fail to leave your computer screen for a bit to put one foot in front of the other, you're the only one to blame.

Have a nice day.

But if your email doesn't say "me", how will they know it's you?

Pardon me if I appear a bit "dated" with my notions of "getting what you bought" - but haven't you ever been angry with something because it doesn't work? because you bought it expecting to use it? because you needed it? because it costs $99 more than simple GMail so it should be better, and it still doesn't work?

Don't blame me for my "lack" of "resourcefulness". Sounds like you'd be the guy telling me to walk instead of drive because my brand new car won't start. And you'd blame me for being angry with the problem.

And excuse me, what kind of person are you to make an assumption about my life? Why email you ask? Well, maybe because I'm talking about highschool counselors, maybe because this is summer break and their school phone number doesn't work, maybe because I don't know where they live. And frankly, I don't have another e-mail account. I've had .Mac for more than 2 years now and I'm sorry for getting angry that I haven't had access to my e-mail for 3 days now.

I see you've missed the point and in doing so have taken personal offense - both of which are on your shoulders as I was merely offering a set of options you might have considered. I, too, think it sucks that the mobileme services aren't up-to-par at the moment. But I also refuse to sit around and throw a fit about it or allow everything in my life take a backseat to the down time.

The entire world isn't going to stop and wait until your .mac/mobileme account works again. So I think I'll stand by what I said initially. It's up to you to put one foot in front of the other and to become resourceful - OR - you've sealed your own fate.

When you get hold of your counselor, see about adding a course in problem solving. It would surely be of great help.

Good luck!

I've been coming here for months and didn't realise what a nasty place it is. :(

Can we please have a little sympathy for people who lost (even if it was temporarily) over £120 for something that was supposed to be free?

I do not like apple apologizing every other day. It`s not going to help them increase their brand value. Once in a while is good but not every week. It was a small error. They rectified it, that should be it. No real need for another 30 day extension. I know those who get it will be happy but no one would have buzzed if no such freebie was awarded. They pleased the one percent of their potential customers but for the rest of the potential buyers mobileme is sounding more and more like a mess with troubles showing up everyday.

I don't know about that, how can you safely assume that no one would have worried if £121 had been held?

I'm sorry, but your argument seems kinda silly.

So, Apple could either be the honest, decent company and say "Hey, we're sorry, here you go, have this, on us." or they could just ignore it. Now, which one seems more damaging?

It might have even charged some people, say, if it had caused their overdraft to become exceeded.

I'm with you, let's have some sympathy instead of telling people they could find alternatives. my wife has also been with out email from Mobileme for nearly 4 days now. It is not funny. The people here not understanding the problem should go buy a red nose and stick it on.

And you, dtyson, you are rather blind, sort of bat like.

There's this little-known company that gives out free email accounts. Goes by the name of Google. Check them out at gmail.com.

You can thank me later.

Either that's an odd joke or you thought I misspelled Google. You'll note from your quote that I did not :).

Well, it _was_ a joke. I agreed with you, and especially your use of sarcasm/tongue-in-cheek.

I was only of many that were affected by this, though not as bad as some, i was sat waiting for the iPhone 3G launch and the guy in front of me was refused sale due to insufficiant funds in his account, as a result of this, i felt his pain... but took his 3G :D

If a $250 authorization is enough to put people on a tight budget in financial dire straits, those people should not even be considering a rather frivolous subscription to mobile me as they have much more pressing financial matters to address.

I'm just curious...

Is this the "new" Apple?

How long before I have to update Mac OS X through iTunes?

How long before Apple decides what apps I can run on my Mac?

How long before I have to get a credit card and give away the info to Apple just to download the next version of Firefox to my Mac?

People were raising this concern in the forums at Apple support pages, and the posts were removed. For example, one person asked how he could buy the update for his iPod Touch. He could buy the device in his country, but there was no iTunes Store for him to use so he couldn't update it. Could he buy the software in a normal store selling Apple stuff? No. Could he use gift cards to buy the stuff? No.

I just beginning to have a bad feeling about this whole "you have to have a credit card and register in iTunes" situation...

It's perfectly normal to request credit card autherisation as a means of identification. There's nothing to be paranoid about.

And Apple have been pretty damn generous and a lot more humble than most other companies would be, most especially notable coming from a company not known for public displays of humility.

Personally I think the only regret here is that they acted a lot faster, but heck you can't turn back the clocks now.

Did I miss a Paris Hilton angle?

I'd keep the patronising financial advice for your kids.

First of all, it's supposedly a 'free' trial so everybody should be able to afford it!

Secondly, I'll quote myself from a couple of pages back...

In my case, my credit card has an extremely low limit of £200 - which I like because I only use it when the supplier only accepts Visa/Mastercard. It also stops temptation.

I have a few recurring payments that come off my credit card each month. Apple 'holding' £121 has meant that several of my recurring payments have failed causing me to have to spend a lot of time on the phone to the USA trying to explain and get myself out of a bit of a mess I shouldn't have been in.

Welcome to the real world Apple.

With all the poking at MSFT now they now how it is to try and play with the BIG boys (enterprise/fortune 500) as PUSH from computers are just as crucial and their service is NOT pushing right now, its sync and to be honest, you can't do half as much as you can on a MAC compared to a PC.

Meanwhile, Apple purposely pulls phones from the shelves (every tech site fuming that the lines were still there one week later), trust me, they have phones (not at the stores) but in warehouse (actually, one report from an insider source said she saw some phones that were in but not (cough cough) processed.

Apples in a weird place right now - do they use all the extra cash and reinvest in PRO applications again? Do they finally make all their machines with dedicated graphics and finally realize that who care if the 1% of the Pro market buys a cheap machine for pro work? I mean, they drop COMPUTER from the Co. name, MAC from the specialist name (catering to MSFT users, thus the Mobile Me looking like a windows Icon (Clouds, HELLO?) and with new iPhone 3G users being 90% new users (windows) and bad, (cough cough) shopping experience (are there always lines? I'm never coming back here), Apple is just in a weird place.

Now, should they release these computers with dedicated CPU'S, I think Apple will do really well as these notebooks and sub $1000 machines would be gobbled up by gamers.

To be fair, MMe, if it works, will be a great thing. Hope the bookmarks and iCards make it back.

Peace, yo.
