I need to vent...

I sent my 17" Macbook Pro for repair LAST MONTH for a sleep issue that would make the notebook freeze and the only way to restore it would be do to a reset, causing any files not saved to be lost.

You should have did some research, this is a well documented bug in OS X. It's not a hardware issue. Even my Mac Mini has this problem from time to time, as do all Macs on 10.6

It's something Apple needs to fix in a software update but so few people get it as is that I doubt they will.

Apple Service is among the worse, unfortunately. You get 2 years on-site repair with 48h response time for 500 Euro PC office desktop PCs, Apple's 2-4 weeks response time and uncomparable expensive Applecare is a slap in the face in comparison.

One reason why we don't read about bad Apple service as often as we should might be the following paragraph that Apple sends to customers for certain exchange cases:

6. Confidentiality: Each party agrees to keep the terms and existence of this Agreement completely confidential except that each party may discuss this Agreement with an attorney who may be assisting in negotiating this Agreement.
And believe me, you better ask an attorney about what you are signing there. And if you are from a non-american country you likely need a translation, too, because Apple sends this out in english only. :apple:

I dont think that the topic starter had 10.6 on his notebook, unless he wrote that operating system... Sep 13, 2006, 05:08 PM

This thread is old, what you said is irrelevant at this point.

Hmm you guys are really unlucky. I have to say my experience with Apple Store Geniuses has been for the most part pretty good.

Likewise. I dislike threads that claim it is bad for EVERYONE, it was bad for THEM there's a big bloody difference. I am not defending Apple in these cases either but personally I have dealt with Apple Support twice and was very happy in both cases.

It's just the generalization that irks me.

One can very well generalize that a Mac replacement takes around 2 weeks, that Apple does only offer "bring-in" service and that the price for their extended warranty plan (Applecare) is silly expensive (especially with the restrictions in mind).

There *are* many other computer and periphery manufacturers out there that offer several years of "on-site" service/replacement within around 48h for *alot* less money. :apple:
