This is what pops up if either my phone or ipad are plugged into the computer. It would appear that Apple just killed iTunes completely for syncing.
This change was made in Catalina. They made it clear that iTunes is going away. iTunes for Windows will also be going away shortly. Apple doesn't support legacy software for very long. Then again, Windows 11 isn't terribly great in this regard either.

You should still be able to connect to Apple services using older clients, but those will require the latest security updates. IIRC, the only hardware that is no longer supported at all is the OG Apple TV.

So if you install the update you get prompted to install the update again?

I can confirm that iOS11 can no longer connect to the APP store with the iPhone app.
The issue described in this thread only affected early versions of iOS 11. Any device that can only run iOS 11 can update to a version that remains compatible with Apple's online services.

My iPhone 4 on iOS 5 no longer connects to the App Store. It was able to a few months ago. What a shame.
Ugh, this reminds me. The iPhone 4 never should have gotten iOS 7. They should have stopped at iOS 6 for that device. It was NOT fast enough for 7, and iOS 7 ruined a lot of iPhone 4 units before they got too old to be useful.

The 5, 5S and 6 were also ****ed over by their last OS upgrade. Thankfully Apple eventually stopped upgrading devices too slow to run the new OS on the 6S and later. Phones since then may lack new features but at least they still run usably fast.

Leave yours on 5. There's zero point to upgrading it and it's a lot more interesting as a retro tech item with 5 on it.
