I am running 10.13 on my 09 iMac. This is the latest version. Obviously I have gotten my use out of this beast but it seems like the sunset may be coming.
But the only minor versions of 10.13 that are affected are 10.13 thru 10.13.3. Just update your iMac to 10.13.4 thru 10.13.6 and you’ll be fine, and everything will still be fully supported! And that’s assuming you don’t already have 10.13.6 installed, if you do, then you don’t have to do anything.

@FeliApple as the 6s fades more into oblivion.
This happening is abhorrent, but it only affects iOS 11.0 through iOS 11.2.6. The 6s runs iOS 10, and I don’t have any device on iOS 11. Should this be confirmed, there has to be a specific issue with iOS 11. It’s a little reminiscent of the A9 activation bug on iOS 9.

Honestly, this is abhorrent for A11 Bionic users, and the iPad 6th-gen. Those who have the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X on their original iOS versions now have useless bricks, thanks to - possibly - a weird issue that Apple refuses to fix.

I won’t hope for Apple to allow downgrades anymore, but this? This is nonsensical. Apple keeps pointlessly throwing early-version adopters under the bus. First, A9 on iOS 9. Now, all devices on iOS 11. iOS 11 was a massive fiasco, most devices were severely affected in terms of battery life and performance (relative to iOS 11, iOS 12 was probably an improvement on every device). What if some users found a minor version of iOS 11 that worked for them, and thanks to constant device obliteration by Apple they chose to stay? Now unless the device is one that only supports iOS 12 (in which case... it probably won’t be too bad to update), it is gone.

Anyway, like I said, if we talk about iPhones, those most affected by this are probably the ones who keep A11 Bionic devices on iOS 11, as it is the original version.

In spite of what I said earlier, I think that those who update probably update all the way, so I’m inclined to think that those who updated to iOS 11... probably kept going. iOS 11 wasn’t great.

My apologies. I am in fact running .6. I just misremembered.
No apology needed, I was just wanting to be helpful. Sorry if the exclamation point made it look like internet shouting. I probably use it more than I should. 👍🏻. Happy to hear that you’re already set to go! 👍🏻

I have a late 2013 iMac that I had no intention of replacing. Works fine for what I do. I am on 10.12.6. When I check for updates, I am told there are none available. It would appear I cannot upgrade to High Sierra? If I can, advice would be appreciated on how to do that.

Just remembered that the reason I stayed on Sierra is because my expensive legacy Adobe products would not run on High Sierra. Will this mean I can no longer use iTunes to sync my iPhone and iPad (which are much newer products) with my computer after this pull of support for older OS's?

In theory your 2013 iMac should be able to update to 10.15.7 (Catalina), so I'm not sure why it is saying no update is available. If you want to stay on Sierra for your Adobe products you won't be impacted as it is only the specific versions of High Sierra listed that are impacted.

Only 10.13 thru 10.13.3 are affected, so you should be fine on 10.12.6 if I understand correctly.

Why would this have any major impact on 6s users? Who in their right mind with a 6s decided to stick with a early release of iOS 11, which was notoriously unstable?

I can see a valid argument for sticking with the latest releases of iOS 9, 10, 12 or 14 on the 6s and not jumping all the way to iOS 15, but iOS 11??

Perhaps check the App Store. I know Apple generally also used to distribute software updates for MacOS via the Mac App Store.

Thank you for all that have replied. I will just stay on Sierra for now and see what happens come May.

I don't think that this will affect me as I just use iCloud and local OS services on my older Macs. I have Macs from 2004, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2015.

Help me find my error.

Users will not be able to access any Apple services except for iCloud on these software versions:

  • iOS 11 through iOS 11.2.6
  • macOS 10.13 through macOS 10.13.3
  • watchOS 4 through watchOS 4.2.3
  • tvOS 11 through tvOS 11.2.6
The way I read that is that my imac that runs 10.13.3 will not be able to access any Apple services except for iCloud. Is that incorrect?
Why are you not upgraded to 10.13.6?

If you're on 10.12 you're fine. Only 10.13 is affected.

That said, iTunes sync isn't guaranteed to continue on old versions of macOS. Currently iTunes 12.8.2 is supported, which goes back to macOS El Capitan. You could reach a point where you need to partition & install macOS Catalina (the last compatible version for your Late 2013) in order to sync, and keep Sierra for your Adobe software. Catalina doesn't use iTunes at all, it syncs via the Finder.

No, that's correct. So you need to update to 10.13.6, which you must be able to do since Apple doesn't drop hardware support in point releases.

EDIT: Just saw your update. Glad you won't be affected.

Thank you for that piece of advice. My hard drive is partitioned because I was going to use a partition to make a bootable clone but never got around to it. If I do need to upgrade to Catalina on a partition so be it but for now I will just wait and see. Thanks again.

Well it happened....I went to sync my iphone and ipad through itunes today and both devices don't show up.

You've got something else happening. This change is specific to being unable to access iCloud and some other online Apple services, not iTunes. What devices do you have, and what versions of iOS/iPadOS and macOS are they running?

I have an iphone 13 mini and iPad Air 5. Both were updated yesterday with the latest iOS. My 2013 iMac is on Sierra because if I update I lose access to some very expensive Adobe applications. I researched partitioning my hard drive as FreakinEurekan suggested so I could install Catalina to use Finder for syncing my devices, but apparently I need to be on High Sierra to do that. I am about ready to buy a PC and begin my withdrawal from the Apple-verse.

then yes, what you’re experiencing here has nothing at all to do with the topic in this thread.

This is what pops up if either my phone or ipad are plugged into the computer. It would appear that Apple just killed iTunes completely for syncing.
