I watched the whole film; thought it was wonderful, and visually striking without relying on abundant visual effects added in post-production – lots seemed to be done "in camera". The music & dance elements were very good, too.

A great presage to deliberate moves from  into India.

Just shows what clever/creative use of locations, camera angles, editing can achieve when paired with 'everyday' equipment like iPhone Pro. So inspiring! (just like Apple's other 'Shot on iPhone' videos and 'Experiments' film series).

And was the shot at ~13:48 a nod to The Force Awakens (Finn on Jakku)?

I wonder what the budget for this film is. Probably an outrageous amount of money. Then the question arises: couldn't Apple spend its resources better? Couldn't they for example give higher trade-in values, pay their employees better or make their products a little cheaper, instead of financing these unnecessary expensive and superfluous commercial films nobody cares about? Just saying.
It’s essentially an ad!! All companies advertise. It’s normal.

This guy has 5 National Awards (Indian Oscars). So if the movie feels trash, probably Apple cheaped out.

He also made this animated satire about the pandemic, in case anyone is interested.

so, what's the point of this? justify the iphone's price? some people can make 3-michelin-stars food with a crappy knife but it doesnt mean that knife costs 100k bucks...

What are you talking about? If Apple stopped being the market leader for lifestyle and fashion in computing devices, they would quickly lose marketshare, revenue, profits, talent and influence over the entire industry. That would lead to massive layoffs, poor quality products and bad customer experiences. I don't think you thought your stance through.

Well - that IS the point, no? The iPhone isn’t cheap, but quality smartphones aren’t. However it’s moot really - they’re in the hands of plenty of people, unlike tens of thousands of quids worth of movie production cameras.

Ahh…whataboutism strikes again.

Sending all the footage to the editing computer must be very fun over USB 2.0 (aka lighting)
I would love to know how many hours it took to transfer all clips.

It takes almost the same amount of time transfering H265 100MB/s as recording it.
Pro raw is nuts, you record 1min and transfering time is 3 minutes.
Of course airdrop is a bit faster, 70-80 MB/s but goo luck sending a bunch of >5GB files!!!

“It took 2 weeks shooting, 5 weeks transfering data and 3 weeks editing”

It’s annoyingly slow. But it’s always annoyingly slow. Transferring from sd cards or flash cards or anything from any big shoot into your editing system, with multiple backups happening at the same time takes ages and ages. It’s something that is always slow. I really wish it was a super fast usb3 port, but I have spent a lot of my life waiting for this kind of thing. Grab a cuppa, take a bath, have some dinner… it’s really not an iPhone centric problem. There are always bottlenecks, and transferring to your suite is always one.

Honestly, as far as visuals go, this doesn't look great. They put a ton of effort into the set design and the rest of the production, but visually, it's clearly bottlenecked by the camera. I get that the point is to show that "it's good for a phone", but from an artistic point of view it feels like such a ridiculous waste to spend all that time, money and resources on a production just to handicap it like this.

Far better to watch it on Apple's own site and video player than YouTube with its absolutely appalling blocky compression. Makes the phone footage look terrible and thus reflects badly on Apple and its products.

Yet artists shoot portraits etc on pinhole cameras homemade from a shoebox for example. It’s what’s in your hands and available to you, not what the specifications tell you on the box.

I believe it is 4K, it just takes some processing on YouTube's side. Just wait a few minutes. At least when you posted, 1080p wasn't available and it is now.
Looks like I was wrong.

Apple today continued with its ongoing "Shot on iPhone" series, sharing a 30-minute film from Indian film director Vishal Bhardwaj. The movie was shot entirely on Apple's latest flagship smartphone, the iPhone 14 Pro.

The short film, called "Fursat," is described as a "magical story about a man so obsessed with controlling the future that he risks losing what he holds most precious in the present." It stars Ishaan and Wamiqa Gabbi, two popular Indian actors.

Apple has partnered with film directors in the past to showcase the capabilities of its smartphones in professional film settings. The iPhone 14 Pro models feature a 48-megapixel Wide lens and offer a new Action Mode with smooth-looking video that ignores shaking, motion, and vibrations.

Not in 4K, the movie is bad... Could have also been in English since more than half of the Indians and much more of the world can't understand this language, but I digress, these bland Low Dynamic Range 1080p scenes are so... sad

Looks like it was shot on a cell phone.
If I knew you, I would ask you a challenge. I would say, let’s shoot the same things on the same ‘cell phone’, each to the same brief, the same subject and the same lighting and editing. Then I would compare. And the difference, (although completely obvious already) would at the very least be a: interesting and b: put this entire thread to bed.

Note: not because I think I would be better than you, just merely because the differences would put pay to everything. It’s entirely why some people are artists and most people are forum commentators.

Why serious filmmakers shoot on professional cameras. But for a phone, it’s good. My comment has nothing to do with the artistic approach…

I think thats more down to the PP and framerates which IMHO was "TV quality".

This is nothing to do with the camera. If it had been shot @ 24fps It could have looked really "Cinematic" I reckon.
