I know one thing which people don't like about the iPhone 8, it's not iPhone X, and that trumps all the stuff to like about iPhone 8

But you must agree that Apple will bring wireless charging to the mainstream along with other features Android phones have had a for years. Just what Apple does.

Apple does have a huge user base, and has the power to really move tech. But QI has been in the mainstream, just not the apple ecosystem. Ikea has been offering Qi chargers in there desks for 4 years, my 3 year old car has a qi charger that I my family has been able to use, while I have stuck with the plug.

Why do they call it a "'New' Retina HD Display" if its the same display just with true tone added?
They have to brag about something... most of these things others had for years. It’s still a shame it doesn’t come with OLED as well as every other flagship phone comes with Amoled for years even the midrange do.

One thing I immediately noticed is that it’s still laggy. A brand new iPhone 8 Plus with the fastest chip ever in a mobile device... still lags. My 6S feels snappier and smoother. Really disappointed. I don’t care about Geekbench scores if the software itself makes the phone feel slow. Not only that but I’ve noticed UI glitches that are littered everywhere. iOS 11 is a really poor show from Apple and the fact that they thought it was acceptable to ship it in its current state on their supposed latest and greatest shows how far they’ve fallen. Do they and will they still sell in droves? Yes, but it’s not about that. I don’t care about that stuff as a consumer and it isn’t a sign of quality. It was true with Apple in the past because the quality of the software combined with the hardware backed it up, but not today. The Apple brand itself sells these days because of the real quality reputation that they built up from the past.

Thinking of returning this one. It honestly doesn’t feel worth it at all and I think it’s the first time I’ve felt that about a new iPhone. It’s just a real shame and saddens me as I never even questioned their software design issues and performance issues in the past because there wasn’t any, or very little to complain about at least. Now there’s people heavily complaining about how behind Apple are, how much they’ve fallen in terms of quality, heck, even non tech people say it’s not the same since Steve died. And it really isn’t anymore.
I’ve could have written it not better myself. I hope the iPhone 8 and 8 plus won’t sell that good and as far as I can see the signs are there. If the iPhone 8 or 8 plus will sell well people are really buying this only for the Apple logo.

The Apple from the past was good in delivering excellent hardware/software products. Today it’s profit driven and quality has gone down real fast. Apple deserves a wake up call.

The 8 is here because they didn't want to put all their eggs in one basket. The X with it's missing home button and Face ID is a global experiment. If people don't really like the design they can get an 8.

It's too risky doing radical changes to a device that millions of people rely on without having a Plan B: The iPhone 8 is Plan B.
Perhaps, plan B should have been released AFTER the X.

Maybe it will become mainstream but let’s not call it amazing or whatever pretty word Apple likes to use. It’s been around for years and I doubt apple can enhance the experience much. You’d still have to place it on a pad. Honestly I would have been happy if apple had figure out Wattup is doing with their “wireless” charging.

Water resistant. I'm laughing internally. When you are seeking help from Apple about your water-damaged iphone.....

Other than that...i give major props for making very good durable iphone based on joe's video.

They've been very generous honoring water damage claims.

If push came to shove, I would buy the 8+. I have a 6+ currently. I would prefer the X. We will see how Oct 27 looks and decide then. Till then the only positive I see in the 8 and 8+ is the chip...other than that, it is a 7 series turned to freak.

And a much better camera and wide gamut display.

I was dealing with iPhone scalpers in Seattle going through line several times but I got my iPhone 8 plus and love it. I upgraded from the iPhone 6. :) I'll wait for rev 2 or 3 or iPhone X. That way all the bugs are worked out and I don't have to wait until next spring to get a new phone.

Even if there are zero bugs on the X the 8 Plus is a top notch phone. Glad you're enjoying it, I think I might even like the design of the 8 more than the X in some ways.

If the 8 wasn’t released, $799 is probably where the X would be.

The 8 is padding and propping up the price of the X.
It's quite baffling how people seem to think making these new iPhones must be easy. There are quite a few internal and external design changes, the fastest smartphone processor ever, amazing hardware-software integration. With the X and Face ID, a whole lot of new, innovative tech is crammed into a very small space. Not to mention a very high-quality OLED display. The new manufacturing processes is probably costing a whole lot more than people think. And why push down the prices anyway unless we want to support slavery?

What person, anywhere, ever, would give a chit about augmented reality? lol.

The rest of these are lame...I really thought Apple was holding off on certain things to perfect it and instead they just played catch up to Android with the same gimmicks.

Not a soul wanted FACE ID. That's what's funny. They tout it as a feature. It's not a feature. It's a work around to poor planning on Touch ID in a screen.

Is this site all trolls now. The 8 is a great phone. It checks the box of contact charging for the weirdos who don't understand wires, it mainstreams the most important future tech- AR. Its the fastest phone you can buy - laughing at the comments that the 7 was fast enough. Its never fast enough.

Phones are mature. The innovation will be software now. The X has the best facial recognition on a device by a mile - looks pointless and dumb to me. Loss of home button - looks dumb to me. But there it is and we will see how it does vs the other phones which are pretty much the same.

The iPhone 8 is the fastest phone you can buy with the best camera on a phone with a proven user interface and home button. Sounds amazing to me.

.....they should have just release the X only. created a problem for themselves.....
I'm beginning to think they really scrambled furiously to get this X to market on time (with all the rumored setbacks with TouchID under-glass and then perfecting gen.1 FaceID), not to miss the holiday shopping season, and are glad to have the 8/8+ as capable replacements for the 7/7+ during the wait for the X.

Either that, or this is a brilliant strategy to sell tons of 8s while building up momentum and crazy anticipation for the 'main event', the 'venerated', 'hallowed' X.

What I have trouble figuring out is why they've decided to keep the 6S around. Especially with the X poised to enter the mix. Doesn't that just seem like one model too many? I mean for the budget conscious there's the SE, while the 7 would be the entry-level large screen model, followed by the 8 and soon the flagship X.

Keeping the 6S doesn't seem to serve a readily identifiable purpose other than causing fragmentation.

So I asume you hate the iPhone X too, right? Since it is pretty much the same as the 8 Plus aside from the screen, stainless steel and 2 hours of battery life.

Amazing how you twist things. I never said I hate the 8. If I like the 7 enough to own one and say the 8 is just like it, wouldn't that be saying I like the 8?

What I said what the 8 points Apple tried to make are silly and pathetic. And the whole fact that they found it necessary to release this ad reeks of desperation, makes Apple look pathetic and makes Timmy look like he's panicking. Exactly what I said in the post.

As for the X. I love OLED, it's absence is my second biggest gripe about the 7 (the biggest being the missing headphone port). I think the price on the X is a bad joke and I certainly won't be dropping $1000 on one, but no where in that does it mean I hate the X.

Well, only Apple seems to have trouble designing the in- and externals these days. Most mid level phones already uses Amoled. Other flagship phones have the same or better specs for far more reasonable prices. Everybody is copying everybody. The only thing is that Apple copy machines are slower but charge you a premium.

The 8 is a great phone.

Not saying it isn't a great phone, but Apple is sure desperate to try and convince people it's not the same as the 7.

Phones are mature. The innovation will be software now.

And they should have closed the patent office in 1900 because everything had been invented, right? Comments like that are nothing but a lack of imagination.

And that's great if you want to buy a phone today. If you have a 6S or 7 30-60% more speed and a modestly better camera aren't a reason to upgrade. Between the 6S, 7, and 8 if I were to buy today, I'd buy the 6S. Save $250 and get a headphone port in exchange for speed I don't even notice and a better camera that still looks horribly blurry in less than bright sunlight.

I think the Ad is misleading because not all iPhone 8 has portrait lighting. iPhone 8 Plus has it but not iPhone 8 (4.7”).

Feels like something is wrong here. How can the 6S feel snappier and smoother than the 8? Wonder if that's the case for all Iphone 8 compared to 6S? Shouldn't more people be vocal about this then?

I have a feeling it’s a combination of the Plus size scaled resolution and the ‘lower power cores’ effecting performance. Having said that, it’s probably mainly iOS 11 as that’s even laggy on my 6s as well and has been talked about in the forums. Apple needs many point updates to get this back to at least iOS 10.3.3 levels.

Apple do not innovate much. I enjoy owning a lot of Apple products, but they are simply not at the forefront of embracing/designing new technology. It amuses me that Samsung are accused endlessly of copying Apple, and here they are now talking about OLED displays, which Samsung innovated ages ago, and now make for Apple. That's one of the reasons my footnote thing will be as it is for a bit.

Samsung is a manufacturing company that also makes finished goods. Apple has been buying Samsung memory and chips as well. Samsung is very innovative on the manufacturing side but are notorious for copying on the finished goods side. Apple is now buying OLED panels because the tech is mature enough and manufacturing capacity is at a point where it can meet (kind of) Apple's needs.

That's not the same as Samsung ripping off ideas and designs. Where do you Samsung got the idea for Touch ID? Where do you think Samsung Pay - the name and how it works came from? Where do you think they got the idea for a dual lens camera and portrait mode? Where do you think they got the idea for Bixby, including how it's activated? Was it a coincidence that they added a camera icon in the lower right corner a year after Apple did it? How about their speaker grill looking just like Apple's? Use of aluminum frame and injection molded antennas with round speaker grills? On and on and on.
