Baffling that this service is geolocked. I'd love to use it, but it's not available in my region.

Stuff like Apple Music, which involves royalties and deals with a million record labels and stuff? That they make available... A fitness app where Apple controls all the IP? No way to make it available everywhere.

Just what?

Sometime I wonder is it purposely because of the size of the base, or so they watch server load, and then raise prices to curb demand so they don't need to get more expensive hardware.

I honestly think it is no more than the strategy of all service-based offerings. Once you are in the system, the dollar (or three) price hike every handful of years is likely not worth moving on from the system in which you are entrenched. That, plus our increasing lethargy and complacency, is a perfect storm that plays into the providers' business model. Obviously, the breaking point is specific to each individual user. Some will drop after a hike, most won't. Service providers are wagering that enough users will become complacent enough in their workflows that they (providers) can weather most initial grumblings that occur every price hike cycle (plus, they know those grumblings fade). Again, while I don't link that, until people speak with their dollar and actually drop providers when they price hike, these providers have little to no incentive to behave any differently. Why would they?

The power the consumer has can be found in their wallet.

For fitness you don’t even need a phone or watch. All you need is your body.
It's certainly good to have to start with, for sure.
But don't underestimate knowledge, experience and the capacity to understand and listen to the body to avoid injuries etc. I have lived more in training clothes through out my life than other clothes, and I am still learning...

There's no Apple Fitness in Sweden, but I mostly do close to daily Ashtanga anyway these days.
I am pretty certain that Apple don't offer any quality of yoga, and definitely not Ashtanga.
I already have subscription(s) to cover my needs of all the training inspiration plus a half gym at home, so I'm good. That said, if Apple would get that sh.it over here, I would probably at least test it, to see if they offer anything valuable to me. You can't say no, if you don't know exactly what you are saying no to.

I tested Apple Fitness on an US account and yoga is a part of the Fitness program. Because also not available in the Netherlands. There is a whole serie of yoga instruction sessions. But I’m not that into yoga so not for me. Just to give a heads-up it’s not only running and bicycling.

Bingo. I can see the appeal of tracking all this stuff if you’re a professional athlete but the majority are simply addicted to having their digital biosecurity sentinel monitoring absolutely everything they do 24/7. It won’t end well for humanity. Taking a step back from all this claptrap and just enjoying your body in the natural world will do more for one’s health and wellbeing than any device, app or paid service 👍

Perhaps there's something messed up with my mind, but that photo is just begging to be photoshopped ;)

Aaaand Finess+ still not supported in my country even when Apple One is there…
Apple 🍎 shame on you.

Apple today shared an Apple Fitness+ ad highlighting the new iOS 16.1 feature that allows iPhone users to access and use the subscription service without an Apple Watch.

Since launch, Apple Fitness+ has required an Apple Watch in order to track workouts, with the fitness information collected by the Apple Watch shown on the television screen. With iOS 16.1, Apple began allowing iPhone owners who do not have an Apple Watch to do workouts directly on the iPhone, but there are no tracking metrics available.

The new capabilities allow iPhone owners to subscribe to the Apple Fitness+ service after upgrading their software to iOS 16.1. Apple Fitness+ is priced at $9.99 per month or $79.99 annually, with multiple family members able to share a single subscription.

Enabling Fitness+ on an iPhone without a Watch and not also enabling it on iPad without a Watch doesn't make any sense at all!

Who is able to follow a training on a such small display?! It's not like watching a video on your couch. You are supposed to have space and move around, not stand still while holding your device. At least if they enabled it on iPad the screen would be bigger and you could see something.

By doing this it's just a tricky way to tell you: oh you want to see it on a bigger screen? You need to buy a Watch too!

and if you have iPad only you still can't activate Fitness+... you still need an iPhone ridiculously.

Thanks for the note 👍🏼
I saw some advertising for it, and from that it seemed to be something more like some of the recent "fitness yoga". Not very interesting, as I already have subscription with much more experienced yoga teachers. We'll see how it evolves, and if it comes to Sweden.
As for now, I'm not missing anything.

I don't understand the appeal for Fitness+. Especially if you have gym friends, they bring plenty of encouragement, may help lead your workout, and can actually spot you with weights. Fitness+ just looks like a bunch of people exercising who are way too happy... Can someone who uses Fitness+ enlighten me on what keeps you subscribed? Genuinely asking, not trying to be snarky.

Many people use it for cardio. Fitness+ is simply a virtual spin or aerobics class where encouragement is a big part of the workout.

After watching the video, this is what we've become? Exercising in front of a little 6 inch screen?o_O
They should at least push the HDMI lightning connector and have people using their iPhone plugged into the TV for a larger experience.

Or at least allow it to work on an iPad.
