As someone you uses and enjoys Apple Fitness+, I hope this isn't a sign the service is failing and they are desperate for more subscribers. I'd like to see them continue to innovate and add features such as curated health programs to meet meet goals.

its them acknowledging that not every potential subscriber is into wearing a smart watch.

Not sure how it would impact innovation; if anything the additional potential users would boost the success and backing internally.

That confirms my suspicion and explains why I can’t start workouts on my Apple Watch by barking commands at Siri through my AirPods… now it wants me to unlock my iPhone and when I do it starts up Fitness+.

Yet another craptastic decision by Apple to kill a good UX in order to wring more money from its users.

I totally agree. I think Apple is holding this back for localisation, thinking local trainers in local languages are going to be a more substantial draw, but I reckon many people would be happy to have English-language sessions.

It’s a tricky business though because you can’t do your training as well if you have to read a screen, so subtitles don’t work so well as an approach, and I doubt whether Apple would want to dub the audio.
There are plenty of foreigners who understand English really well and in fact prefer it that way as not everybody dubs everything.
And that is not even considering that Apple users aren't the general population.

It is good that it is not linked to Apple Watch anymore, but can we link it with other fitness gears ?

I am not a fan of these apps in general, but when little time and I need a little help with a series of exercises, I just use CARROT for "7 minutes in hell". It's a bit repetitive, but it is fast and funny. And when I have more time, I wear my shoes and go for a walk in the forrest.

I hope the same. Yet I feel Apple made a BIG mistake in not having Fitness+ available on iPhones and iPads from the very start!

I don't understand the appeal for Fitness+. Especially if you have gym friends, they bring plenty of encouragement, may help lead your workout, and can actually spot you with weights. Fitness+ just looks like a bunch of people exercising who are way too happy... Can someone who uses Fitness+ enlighten me on what keeps you subscribed? Genuinely asking, not trying to be snarky.

A couple of things.
1. Gym friends are not always of the same:
Focus/dedication as you throughout the year. Some Skip on workout days, others chat too damn much. Others think the gym is a neat market when can see positive results on their own body and this deter your workout ethic and focus. More may not have the same cadence of reps as you or need longer rests.

You’re at their mercy; not ideal!

2. Gym partners do have their own lives. They could get sick, attend family needs/functions etc. this means some days or weeks of the year you have no gym partner.

3. You’re ignoring other workout types that Fitness+ does that many in a gym need to pay extra for: Yoga, similar mat exercises. Also consider indoor cycling Ona bike with a trainer setup as many people live in countries/states/provinces with 4 climates where 1/2 are not ideal for outdoor cycling

Also consider a person working at home may have missed an dearly morning workout can still get a decent exercise in their short lunch time frame since it could take longer to get to a gym and back during that time. Then goto the gym after work. Lastly a person travelling constantly or frequently can heavily benefit with Fitness+.

There are still hundreds of thousands of not many many more people that don’t goto the gym due to their insecurities of their bodies in their current form. This helps them get started. Motivated to eventually goto the gym.

Dunno why, but that Youtube preview screen looks like the guy is giving birth to an iPhone.
It's a boy? It's a girl? Nooo it's an iPhone!

For fitness you don’t even need a phone or watch. All you need is your body.
Psst.. Fitness+. There's a difference ;)

That said, it's a conundrum... when times are tough gym memberships get slashed, but phones are here to stay. After all keeping your lines of communications open is still essential (especially if you're job hunting).
OTOH, people can always get a cheaper phone, but I doubt iPhones that can run ios16.1 will be discounted enough to make a difference. On the Android side of things, you can get some relatively spectacular phones in the $300 price range (Google Pixel 6A is on sale for that much! o_O:cool:), or get some 4-year old phone for $100 to $200, but ofc., none of those will run Fitness+, an iOS app. Then again, this requires a subscription, which takes us right bac to the gym membership!

No longer requires an Apple Watch. Let's celebrate...

...wait, what?
FWIW, you don't need A1 Premier tier to use Fitness+. It's available a la carte for $10/mo, or $80/yr, and includes 5 members getting in on that...

... I don't think this went in price at all (I haven't been tracking it). With A1 going up though, I figured that's really for Apple Music and ATV+, so you can still think of this is staying the same price.

As someone who has zero gym friends (I live in a small town in Alaska) Fitness+ has been absolutely life changing for me. Most of the trainers have communication styles that grate on my nerves, but there are a few (Sam - Treadmill, strength training, core. Jonelle - Yoga. Kym - Cycling) who I find super relatable instead of cloying, but a lot of them are definitely too “gym bro” or “Suburban mom” for me. It’s much more affordable than other fitness programs and has a huge variety of workouts for every fitness level. The best part is the family sharing, which means my husband can be on the treadmill, while I’m lifting weights without having to pay for a separate subscription. Plus there are so many different kinds of workouts to choose from, many that don‘t require any sort of equipment which makes it easy for me to fire up the app on my lunch break and squeeze in a core workout in my office.

Of course it’s failing. Maybe only some people in America are using it in a meaningful numbers. It was a dumb idea from the start. Apple is trying to be something that it’s not and never will be.

Anyone knows what brand the kickstand is?

It looks sturdier than those sold on Amazon for $3.99 3-pack.

(edit)
found which one it is.
