The hate is most likely coming from the same people who whined about Frank Ocean and not knowing who he is.
Honestly, I didn't know about Frank Ocean until his name surfaced as if he's been hiding behind a curtain for ages. I'm sure he's a great musician but I'm unfamiliar with his work. Still, I find this carpool thing from Apple to be a sad development, if this is the best thing they got.
They should've gone old school with an M-TV like channel that's 24/7. In other words, M-TV was 24/7 back in the 80s with music videos and interviews all day, all week. I remember this well when they had VJs. But instead of just standard television, they need to pull an "Mtv" with videos on live broadcast via Apple Music or Apple TV. That's how you can push content and promote music that way. Keep it simple and fresh.
The other problem is their Radio aspect where you have to pay $9.99 just to listen to Apple or Beats Radio. I think it's an insult. Way back in the old days, I used to listen to WMMS, Home of the Buzzard, when living on the east side of C-town ( I live in the New England area these days now..long story ) at home or by car, and you didn't have to pay a dime for it. It's one big reason why I like Spotify despite the ads which I don't mind.
That's why I think Apple is screwing up the radio aspect of their music endeavors and churning out bizarre shows like Carpool Karaoke. There used to be a bar in Lyndhurst near Mayfield Heights ( east side ) where they had karaoke nights but the place disappeared after that.
It was also neat that Trent Reznor worked for Apple although I know he's on tour with his NIN band. To me, it kind of felt like a conflict of interest for someone like him to be working in Apple Music. And I don't think many people remember that he used to live in Shaker Heights, not far from my old house, back in the 1990s.
Anyways, how's the Flats these days? I'm more of a Coventry person. That's my old haunt
